The phone will be powered by an unnamed Helio chipset. This means no 5G connectivity for the Prime model or the extra processing power that comes with a Dimensity chipset. As a reminder, the vanilla Redmi 10 has a Helio G88 chipset.

There are a few other tidbits about the Prime. It will have a high refresh rate display, stereo speakers, two microphones and fast charging. Of course, the vanilla model has these things as well, so without specifics we can’t tell what hardware will be upgraded on the Prime model.

Leaker: Upcoming MacBook Pro to See Price Hike Over Current Model, Equal Performance Across 14 and 16-Inch Sizes

M1X MBP Feature

The leaker shared the information on Twitter, explaining that both of the upcoming MacBook Pro models, expected to come in 14 and 16-inch sizes, will feature the same performance due to having the same “M1X” chip.

Currently, the 16-inch MacBook Pro offers a significant performance improvement over the high-end 13-inch models due to its more powerful Intel chips and better thermals, so bringing the two model sizes to parity could be a major boost for owners of the smaller, more portable model.

In addition, the 14-inch MacBook Pro will apparently be more expensive than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro. Dylandkt clarified to MacRumors that this relates to the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro model with the M1 chip, which starts at $1,299.

Dylandkt also told MacRumors that the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be priced around the current high-end 13-inch model, which it is expected to replace in the lineup, but will be priced much more closely to the 16-inch model due to their similar feature sets and performance.

Xiaomi officially ditching the Mi branding for its products

Xiaomi Mix 4

Xiaomi has been selling its products with Mi branding on the overseas market, but it will phase out the moniker from now on. XDA-Developers first reported the news, and then it was officially confirmed by a company spokesperson – starting from Q3 2021, the “Mi” product series will be simply called “Xiaomi”; just like it has been since forever at home in China.

The first devices with the new branding were actually the Mix 4 smartphone and the Pad 5 tablet series, launched on August 10. After the event was over, we had our suspicions about the rebranding, but it took 14 days for the company to confirm what everyone expected – Mi is no longer a thing.

The First Step Toward Protecting Everyone Else From Teslas

After spending years looking into 30 separate Tesla crashes, this week federal safety officials finally took a step toward cracking down on the electric carmaker. On Monday, the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration announced an investigation into Autopilot, Tesla’s driver assistance system, which allows the vehicle to manage certain highway tasks like changing lanes and moderating speed, and which numerous drivers have treated like a fully autonomous driving system (sometimes for the entertainment of their social media followers). NHTSA’s new investigation has a narrow focus: It will seek to determine why Teslas with Autopilot engaged have crashed at least 11 times into stationary first-responder vehicles.

Depending on what the agency concludes, NHTSA could declare a “defect” in Autopilot, insisting that Tesla correct it or else face a hefty fine. NHTSA’s power over the automotive sector shouldn’t be underestimated; the agency’s investigation in Takata’s faulty airbags helped push the multi-billion dollar company into bankruptcy in 2017.

The Realme 8 is receiving a new software update with the Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) feature. As evident from the name, DRE lets you expand your smartphone’s RAM – albeit virtually – by using the phone’s internal storage.

DRE was introduced by Realme on the Narzo 30 5G first, but the 8 5G, which is what the Narzo 30 5G is based on, didn’t have it out of the box. However, the feature was rolled out later for the 8 5G, and the more expensive X7 Max 5G also got it last month through an OTA.

Improper default permission setting exposed personally identifiable information (PII) of over 30 million US citizens from across a few hundred portals, according to cybersecurity researchers.

The UpGuard Research team discovered over a thousand anonymously accessible lists across a few hundred portals that included sensitive details such as an individual’s Covid-19 vaccination status, along with their phone numbers, home address, and social security number (SSN), and more.

The data leaked from improperly configured PowerApps portals, which not just allowed access to public data as expected, but also exposed private data without anyone being the wiser.

Remembering Steve: 10 years ago today, the legendary cofounder of Apple resigned his post as CEO

Image: 9to5Mac

Around 6:30 p.m. EST on August 24, 2011, Steve Jobs stepped down as the CEO of Apple. I remember sitting in my friend’s living room as the television switched to the breaking news. I was only in middle school at the time, but Steve’s influence had already weighed heavily on me. It was a difficult moment. As a kid I’d put together faux keynotes on our family iMac and presented my product ideas to an imaginary audience. I remember making movies about him at Apple Camp at my local Apple Store. His portraits even adorned my wall. He was my hero and I knew the moment that he resigned was the beginning of the end.

Since January of 2011, Steve had been on another medical leave because he was experiencing issues with his liver transplant that he had received in 2009. All of us fans knew that Tim Cook had been at the helm and that he was more than capable as leader. In the years leading up to this moment, Tim had been rolled out more than once on the keynote stage to become one of Apple’s handful of prominent and familiar faces.
