The rumored Amazfit trio has officially launched with some expected specs and a few exciting upgrades. All three watches pack extended battery life and an arguably excessive number of sport tracking modes.

The company’s newest flagship smartwatch, the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro, features a round AMOLED 1.45-inch display and a 450mAh battery offering up to 12 days of battery life. That will give users plenty of time to enjoy the device’s 2.3GB of storage, plus Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a mic and speaker for on-wrist call support. The last two features also come in handy for reaching out to Amazon’s Alexa, which the watch can do when connected to the internet.

The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro weighs in at just 32g (for reference, just slightly more than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4), with a sleek, classic aesthetic. Its 22mm, quick-release fluoroelastomer strap is available in Infinite Black or Brown Leather but is likely interchangeable with a variety of options from third-party retailers as well.

Meanwhile, the Amazfit GTR 3 keeps much of the same look and features as the Pro but swaps storage, Wi-Fi, mic, speaker, and Bluetooth for up to 21 days of battery life and a slightly smaller display. The Amazfit GTS 3 holds on to its Apple-esque, rectangular AMOLED screen with just one button and a silicone strap.

Fitbit Luxe update adds always-on display, SpO2 monitoring and more

Fitbit Luxe update adds always-on display, SpO2 monitoring and more
Image: Fitbit

Last month Fitbit rolled out a new software update to the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3, which brought Snore & Noise Detect feature. Now the company is turning its attention to the more premium Fitbit Luxe.

Software version 1.151.16 is rolling out (via 9to5Google) to the Fitbit Luxe, and it includes several new additions, including always-on-display (AOD), SpO2 monitoring, increased font size, and other improvements.

The most notable addition in the new update is support for blood oxygen or SpO2 monitoring, allowing users to track their blood oxygen levels during their sleep. Fitbit promised to add SpO2 tracking at launch, and it’s finally here. Users can access SpO2 data right on the watch in the SpO2 tile or in the Fitbit companion app.

Another useful feature is the always-on display (AOD), bringing the fitness tracker on par with the recently launched Charge 5. After installing the update, Fitbit Luxe owners can enable AOD by heading to Settings > Display settings > Always-on display. You can also set “off-hours” to trigger the AOD feature on a schedule.

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 AMP Extreme Holo is the Perfect GPU for Gamers and Content Creators

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 AMP Extreme Holo is the Perfect GPU for Gamers and Content Creators
Image: Zotac

The ZOTAC GeForce RTX 3090 AMP Extreme Holo is maxed out with the highest-end specs. With 10496 CUDA cores and 24GB of GDDR6X memory, you’ll have enough processing power to run any of the latest games on the highest graphics, at the maximum resolution.

When it comes to gaming performance, the ZOTAC Geforce RTX 3090 beats most of the competitors. ZOTAC scores higher average FPS scores in 1080p, 1440p, and 4K resolution.

  • Average FPS (1080p) – 210.9
  • Average FPS (1440p) – 177.74
  • Average FPS (4k) – 117.7

With such enormous processing power being implemented into a graphics card, you’ll need a cooling system that can handle it. A large copper cold plate is used to absorb heat from this GPU, along with eight copper heat pipes that efficiently draw and dissipate heat. As the copper draws the heat away from the GPU, three large and efficient 11-blade fans work to push that heat out of your system. The Freeze Fan Stop feature shuts down the fans when the GPU is not in use to increase noise efficiency and extend fan life longevity.

Samsung’s ‘extreme ultraviolet’ DDR5 RAM is set to be super-fast – but when’s it coming to PCs?

Image: Samsung

This looks set to bring a range of exciting possibilities. For a start, Samsung says its 14nm DDR5 DRAM will be able to hit speeds of 7.2 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is over twice the speed of DDR4, which peaks at 3.2Gbps.

By being smaller and denser, power consumption could be cut by up to 20%, and Samsung also hopes this will improve overall wafer productivity – essentially meaning it should be able to create more usable chips using this process – particularly important whilst we’re in a midst of a global chip shortage.

In Samsung’s announcement, Jooyoung Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of DRAM Product & Technology at Samsung Electronics, explains that “multi-layer EUV… has enabled extreme miniaturization at 14nm — a feat not possible with the conventional argon fluoride (ArF) process.”

Google has a cunning plan to dethrone Microsoft 365

Image: Google

Google has revealed a new plan to help customers squeeze even more value from its productivity software and collaboration tools.

At its annual Google Cloud Next event, the company announced it will invest heavily in the Google Workspace Marketplace, the third-party app library that services its product suite. The goal is to create opportunities for new synergies that expand the functionality of its apps and improve the user experience.

New figures published by Google show the Workspace suite now has upwards of three billion users (which equates to more than a third of the planet). Many of these users are augmenting their setup with first- or third-party apps – of which there are now 5,300 in the official marketplace – but Google is pushing for further expansion.

“We’re excited to see so many users personalize their experience by adding third-party apps or by building their own to create a more powerful engine for productivity and collaboration,” wrote Google.

“Developers have been able to build applications that integrate with Gmail, Drive and Docs for years. And today, we’re announcing enhancements to the Google Workspace platform by making it just as easy for developers to build applications and integrate with Meet, Chat and Spaces.”

Samsung reveals PS5-compatible 980 Pro SSD with heatsink, coming later in October

Samsung 980 Pro Heatsink
Image: Samsung

PS5 owners looking to expand their internal storage now have more options to choose from, as Samsung announced on Tuesday a version of the 980 Pro SSD with a heatsink attached. This new model is set to be available on Oct. 29, 2021, joining the ranks of the best PS5 SSDs currently available.

The Samsung 980 Pro SSD with Heatsink, like the regular model without a heatsink, is rated to achieve read speeds of 7GB/s. It’ll be available in two sizes, with 1 TB and 2 TB models available for $250 and $450, respectively.

While Sony opened up support for players to add internal SSDs to the PS5, the selection is still fairly limited, as the drives need to meet extremely specific speed and size requirements. The 980 Pro already met most of these requirements but lacked an attached heatsink, meaning you’d have to find a third-party heatsink that fits. Using an SSD in the PS5 without a heatsink is strongly discouraged, as the extremely high temperatures can cause degraded performance.

Intel Core i5-12400 leak could be AMD’s worst nightmare

Image: Panuwatccn / Shutterstock

Intel’s incoming Core i5-12400 could be a midrange beast of a chip, at least if the latest leak about this Alder Lake processor is on the money.

The spilled benchmark comes from Bilibili as spotted by HXL on Twitter, a common source of hardware leaks, with this one showing the 12400 put through its paces on Cinebench R20 and CPU-Z, with seriously impressive results.

First of all, we should note the spec details revealed here, showing what’s apparently the retail version of the Core i5-12400. It has 6 performance cores, with no power-efficient cores, so in other words, it’s just a normal CPU with no ‘small’ cores as per Alder Lake’s hybrid scheme of things (not every 12th-gen chip will employ the hybrid tech).

As for clock speeds, the Intel CPU is capable of boost to 4.4GHz on a single-core, with 4GHz across all-cores.

In Cinebench R20, the Core i5-12400 flexes its performance core-only muscles to hit 659 in single-threaded, and 4,784 in multi-threaded. As PC Gamer points out, that’s faster than the Ryzen 5 5600X which has 6-cores and managed 597 and 4,438 respectively when our sister site benchmarked the AMD processor. So Intel is 10% and 8% faster in single and multi-threaded here.

Obviously we need to take this with a good deal of caution, though, but it’s quite a startling result if genuine.

As for CPU-Z, the 12400 scored 681 in single-threaded and 4,983 in multi-threaded. In testing on AIDA64, which was also shown here, the Alder Lake CPU didn’t get any hotter than 60C (with a peak power draw of 78W), so that’s good to see, as well.

Download Your iPhone’s Latest Security Update ASAP

Image: Shutterstock

When you know there aren’t many new features to be found, ignoring software update notifications in favor of doing literally anything else can be all too easy. We’re here to implore you to update this latest one, however, since Apple’s latest software is essential to your iPhone and iPad’s security.

Apple released iOS 15.0.2 and iPadOS 15.0.2 to compatible iPhones and iPads Monday, Oct. 11. At first, the update appeared to be a minor facelift for the device. After all, no major update has the “0.2″ add-on; such a small number implies that the update itself is there to fix small bugs that users may or may not have come across since the last update.

However, Apple later confirmed that this new update was much more significant than its name would lead you to believe. While there aren’t any new emoji to be found, nor do we see SharePlay finally makes its delayed iOS 15 debut, 15.0.2 delivers a critical security patch for iPhones and iPads.

Instagram’s newest feature will let you know when it does go down

Instagram debuts a new outage warning on mobile.
Image: Instagram

Instagram (and other Facebook services) suffered an extended outage last week that lasted multiple hours and briefly caused chaos across the internet, particularly in developing countries. Today, the company announced an update coming to its mobile app, letting users know when an outage is experienced.

This test is a U.S.-only one for the most part, and Facebook isn’t making any promises that it’ll make it permanent, only that it’ll be evaluating the results and see if it makes sense to expand it in the future.

“We won’t send a notification every single time there is an outage, but when we see that people are confused and looking for answers, we’ll determine if something like this could help make things clearer,” the Instagram team wrote.
