Almost entire lineup of Intel Alder Lake mobile chips leak ahead of CES 2022

Image: harukaze5719

Details on nearly the entire Intel Alder Lake mobile series processors have popped up online, giving our best look yet at Intel’s upcoming chips expected to launch at CES 2022.

The chip details were found in the Geekbench database by BenchLeaks, and include information on SKUs from both the H-series and an apparently new P-series. Some of the benchmark info is clearly off, with max clock speeds way higher than they should be and score inconsistencies between chips that don’t make any sense.

Benchmark tools have had trouble in the past measuring the big.LITTLE architecture of Intel’s Alder Lake chips before though, so some of these anomalies are expected. The core and thread count as well as the amount of L3 Cache aren’t performance metrics but are instead info provided by the processor itself, so there’s no reason to doubt their validity as far as a leaked benchmark result goes.

MediaTek teases Dimensity 8000 chip, leaks reveal 5nm node, Mali-G510 GPU

Image: Mediatek

The 8000 chip will use the older ARMv8 designs with four Cortex-A78 (2.75 GHz) and four A55 (2.0 GHz) CPU cores instead of the new A710/A510 used in the 9000. Even more interesting is that the older cores will be paired with a new Mali-G510 MC6 GPU. The G510 is twice as fast and 22% more energy efficient than the previous generation of ARM GPUs.

That powerful but efficient GPU may make this a popular chipset for premium mid-rangers. Redmi and Realme are reportedly interested. The chipset supports 168 Hz displays at 1080p+ resolution and 120 Hz at 1440p+ resolution. For memory, it can be hooked up to LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.

On December 20, Realme will unveil its next-generationn flagship smartphone, the GT 2 Pro. In fact, the company bills this as its first ever top of the line, truly premium device. And while the GT 2 Pro has been the star of a lot of leaks and rumors lately, what about a non-Pro model? Are we even getting that?

As it turns out – yes. A leak today exposed a mention of the non-Pro GT 2 spotted on none other than Realme’s Indian website, so this model will at least be offered in that market – but we’re assuming not just. Also, note that the GT 2 Pro is supposed to arrive in India too.

Latest Samsung Galaxy S21 FE leak reveals its full specs and features

Image: Samsung

Samsung plans to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chip instead of its in-house Exynos 2100 for the S21 FE. As per the leak, the device will be available with 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. It won’t feature a microSD card slot, so storage expansion won’t be possible.

The camera specs of the device have also been detailed in the leak. It suggests the S21 FE will share the same 12MP f/1.8 primary shooter with OIS and 1.8µm large pixels from the Galaxy S21. This will be paired with an 8MP 3x telephoto zoom with an f/2.4 aperture and OIS. Lastly, there is a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide with a 123-degree field of view. On the front, a 0.8µm 32MP f/2.2 shooter with an 81-degree field of view will do the selfie duties.

Other notable specs highlighted in the leak include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, eSIM support, wireless charging with PowerShare, NFC, and IP68 certification inside a 7.9mm thick body that’s 170gms heavy. The S21 FE will be powered by a 4500mAh battery with fast charging support. The device will possibly launch with Android 11/One UI 3.1 but should get the Android 12 and One UI 4 update soon after.

Xiaomi has already let the cat out of the bag; we know the company will soon release its next-generation flagship, the Xiaomi 12, which will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. If you were wondering what the phone will look like, these new renders are just what the doctor ordered.

They come from reliable CAD leaker @OnLeaks (via Zoutonsonly a few days after renders for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra made it to the internet. The design is slightly changed with a new rectangular camera module housing three lenses and a curved display with rounded corners (that don’t align with the edges ?).

Google needs to bring Adaptive Charging from its Pixels to Chromebooks

Among the many, many features on Google’s flagship phones like the Pixel 6, Adaptive Charging often sits unnoticed while flashy features like Call Screening and Now Playing steal the show. That’s a crying shame because Adaptive Battery is the exact kind of silent-but-helpful feature we need more of, not just on Android but on all electronic platforms.

Adaptive Charging keeps the charging from beyond 80% at night until you’re close to your normal wake-up time. Limiting the amount of time your phone sits fully charged helps it retain a charge longer, thus allowing your battery to last longer before you have to replace the battery (or replace the phone). Google even added it to Android 12 rather than keeping it to the Pixel line because it can make Android better for everyone.

Galaxy S22 Ultra has far better image quality than S21U thanks to new processing

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra reportedly captures much nicer images than its predecessor, thanks to better optimizations, says reliable tipster @UniverseIce.

The improvement in image quality comes despite limited changes to the imaging hardware – we’re expecting the Galaxy S22 Ultra to retain the 108MP camera and sensor. That means the improvements in image quality must come from updated processing from the Exynos 2200 (or Snapdragon 8 gen1).

Oxygen OS 12 rollout starts again for OnePlus 9 series

Image: Android Authority

On December 6, OnePlus announced the rollout of stable Android 12 to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. However, after a few days, OnePlus canceled the rollout. The cancelation was due to resoundingly negative feedback from users who saw numerous bugs.

Now, OnePlus is trying things again. A different Oxygen OS 12 rollout has started anew with an updated changelog. OnePlus says this launch solves “issues that were most reported recently, including the failure to connect to the mobile data in certain scenarios, phone notifications not being visible, freeze issues, some display problems, etc.”

Considering it’s been less than a week since OnePlus stopped the previous rollout, we’re interested to see how users respond to this new launch. Could OnePlus really have fixed everything users had issues with for the first Oxygen OS 12 release? Time will tell. All we know is it would be a PR nightmare for OnePlus if it needs to cancel this rollout, too.

FedEx receives its first electric delivery vans from GM’s BrightDrop

Image: Fedex

FedEx is the first customer to receive electric delivery vans from General Motors’ new EV-focused company BrightDrop. The logistics giant says it will integrate the EVs into its fleet starting in 2022.

BrightDrop, which is GM’s new dedicated electric delivery van spinoff, said it delivered five of its larger-sized EV600 delivery vans to FedEx, the first in a planned 500-vehicle order. The EV600, which went into production last fall, has 600 cubic feet of cargo space, can travel up to 250 miles on a full battery, and has a gross vehicle weight of less than 10,000 pounds.

The vans were delivered to FedEx’s facility in Inglewood, California, where they will be housed and maintained. FedEx plans to begin deploying BrightDrop’s vehicles on the roads making deliveries in Los Angeles starting in the first half of 2022 and will add more vehicles as BrightDrop makes them available.
