ASUS made a 17-inch foldable OLED tablet

ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED

ASUS’ ZenBook 17 Fold, an OLED tablet that can disguise itself like a 12.5-inch laptop thanks to a keyboard on top of the lower half of the screen. If you want to use the entire 17-inch display, you can stand the tablet up and use the keyboard separately. The images look like heady concept products from a few years ago – ASUS demoed this form-factor as Project Precog back in 2018 — but this is a genuine device headed to stores. Hopefully, ASUS learned lessons from Lenovo and Microsoft’s attempts at foldables.

OnePlus 10 series to arrive with HyperBoost GPU tech

The OnePlus series is inching closer to launch so naturally, teasers are becoming more frequent. The latest one comes from the co-founder, Pete Lau. He talks about a new GPU tech called HyperBoost and it’s all about optimizing performance and gaming experience.

The new feature will be made available with the OnePlus 10 series shipping with ColorOS 12.1 out of the box. It’s a chip-level optimization that uses AI algorithms developed by a two-year-long R&D. The machine-translated text from Weibo makes it a bit hard to understand the underlying tech that helps the GPU maintain optimal performance over time and Pete Lau didn’t go into much detail either.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G has the same chip as the Galaxy S21 series, but up until now, we assumed that only meant the Snapdragon 888. However, the S21 FE 5G will indeed have an Exynos 2100 in certain markets as well.

One such market is Australia as revealed by retailer Harvey Norman’s product listing. It clearly says the Exynos 2100 is powering the phone.

These phones are not entirely new, though – they are renamed Redmi Note 11 Pro+ and Redmi Note 11 Pro, launched by Xiaomi in China back in October 2021.

The new gaming smartphone from nubia is on its way. A Red Magic 7 phone has been certified by TENAA and the listing reveals most of its specs. It appears to be an incremental upgrade over the Red Magic 6s series. The device with model number NX679J will have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and a 64MP main camera on the rear.

The 6.8” OLED screen of this new phone will have 1080p resolution. The listing also reveals up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, but no micro SD slot.

TENAA hasn’t detailed the other three cameras on the back, but it has confirmed an 8MP selfie shooter.

Battery is listed as 2,190 mAh, which is one part of the dual-cell solution many manufacturers are now implementing. This means the total capacity will be around 4,400mAh and it will certainly support speedy charging.

Fossil smartwatches will soon have a major advantage over the Galaxy Watch 4

Image: Future

Everyone has their own favorite voice assistant, and if you own a Fossil Gen 6 or buy any of the brand’s upcoming Gen 6 smartwatches such as the Skagen Falster Gen 6 or Razer x Fossil Gen 6, then you’ll soon have some say in which voice assistant gets activated on your wrist.

That’s because Fossil has confirmed that Amazon Alexa will be coming to all of its Gen 6 devices, saying in a statement to 9to5Google that “Alexa will be launching in the first half of this year on our Gen 6 devices, with opportunity to roll out on future devices. We’ll have more information closer to launch!”

So while the statement doesn’t round down the launch timing too much – with Alexa potentially arriving anytime between now and the end of June – it does confirm that the feature is on the way.

This new RTX 3080 Ti gaming laptop comes with external liquid cooling

Image: XMG

The new XMG Neo 15 gaming laptop is set to launch alongside an external liquid cooling system designed to work in tandem with its inbuilt cooling options.

Announced as part of XMG’s CES 2022 announcements, the new XMG Neo 15 is expected to arrive in early 2022.

When fully kitted out this rig could rival some of the best gaming laptops, coming equipped with the new RTX 3080 Ti GPU, an Intel Core i7-12700H series processor, and 64GB of DDR5 RAM. Lower spec’d (and slightly cheaper) models will be available too.

But we know those aren’t the specs you’re really interested in – of course, you want to know more about the external liquid cooling.

Whatever version of the XMG Neo 15 you pick up you can optionally nab the XMG Oasis – an external laptop-powered device that can provide liquid cooling to your setup.

Google planning Apple-like integration between its products to compete

Image: 9to5Google

Google’s announcements today come as part of CES, and the announcements span its entire ecosystem of hardware. Here are the details.

First off, the company has announced that it will expand its AirDrop-like “Nearby Share” feature to Windows PCs, allowing Android users to easily and wirelessly share photos, videos, and files from Android phones to PCs. This is, of course, incredibly similar to using AirDrop between an iPhone and Mac.

In the audio space, Google has announced that it will bring its Fast Pair feature to Windows PCs, Google TV, Android TV, and Matter-compatible smart home products. This means that Fast Pair-compatible headphones will be able to seamlessly connect to these devices, just like AirPods can effortlessly pair with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.

Furthermore, Google is working on a feature similar to Apple’s Spatial Audio functionality on AirPods, which adapts the sound output based on head movements and the location of your head in relation to the audio source itself. Android users will also be able to transfer their audio source between Android and Chromebook devices, again similar to AirPods and iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Similar to the Apple Watch Unlock feature for the Mac (and more recently the iPhone), Google says that users will soon be able to unlock their Chromebook or other Android using their Wear OS smartwatch. Apple rolled out Apple Watch Unlock to the Mac a few years ago, and to the iPhone last year.

Intel announces 5.5Ghz capable 12th Gen CPU

Image: Intel

Intel has officially announced a new 12th-gen desktop CPU that’s capable of boosting to 5.5GHz on a single core out of the box. The news came during Intel’s CES 2022 presentation, when it said the KS-series desktop processor would be shipping later this quarter, but there was no mention of pricing.

The full name of the chip is the Core i9-12900KS, and Tom’s Hardware notes the “S’’ suffix suggests it’ll be a limited edition. As well as hitting a maximum of 5.5GHz on a single core (a 300MHz improvement over what we saw with the i9-12900K), an onstage demonstration of the new CPU powering Hitman 3 showed the processor running at a sustained 5.2GHz across all its performance cores. No details were given on what sort of power draw or cooling solution was needed to achieve these results.

France’s data privacy watchdog has fined Google and Facebook a combined €210m (£176m) for hampering users’ ability to stop the companies tracking their online activity.

The Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) said on Thursday it had fined Google a record €150m for making it difficult for internet users to refuse cookies – small text files that build up a profile of a person’s web activity for commercial purposes. It fined Facebook €60m for the same reason.
