Samsung’s foldable concepts show how it could evolve beyond the Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung Oled Concepts Ces

While Samsung is busy trying to convince consumers that its best foldable phones have broken into the mainstream, the company is also already working on a way to advance beyond the “basic” fold we have today. Samsung is showing off its foldable display concepts at CES 2022 to give us a better look at the various form factors in development.

The Flex S and Flex G concepts look a bit like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 but take things up a notch by adding an additional fold. This effectively segments the display into three separate parts that become one when folded out.

The Flex S concept shows a device with a display that folds out with an “S” shape into a tablet-sized device. When folded, one section of the display remains visible. Another concept shows a smaller version, but with a transparent panel on one end so the user can view a small portion of the “rear” display when folded.

There’s also the Flex G concept, which folds inwards into a “G” shape in order to protect the internal display.

The 10 Pro will be part of the second generation of OnePlus phones to get Hasselblad-tuned shooters. OnePlus says its new phone’s cameras will be able to capture more vibrant colors, have a more refined Pro Mode to save images in RAW+ format and allow you to tweak video settings while recording.

An ultrawide camera with a new 150-degree field of view will be helpful for capturing more subjects in frame than usual. In the sample images provided, the sides were warped, but you can always opt for the default 140-degree field of view. There’s also a fish-eye mode that bends the sides of images even further.

Twitter joins Instagram in copying TikTok’s reaction videos

Twitter has announced that it’s testing a feature called “quote tweet with reaction,” where you can embed a copy of a tweet into a photo or video instead of just replying to it with text.

Twitter says that the feature is currently being tested on iOS. If you have access to the feature, the retweet menu will have a “Quote Tweet with reaction” button. Tapping it will take you to a screen where you can take a photo or video to put the tweet on top of, or choose one from your camera roll. One of Twitter’s product leads did a reaction quote tweet to the announcement, which lets us see how the reactions will show up to users.

Image: Android Police

It might be time to stop thinking of Android TV as an also-ran. While Amazon and Roku continue to dominate in the living room, Google’s streaming platform continues to gain steam, especially on the back of its latest Chromecast’s success. Last summer, we gathered Android TV had more than 100 million total users after YouTube surpassed that milestone. As we head into 2022, we’re getting some confirmed metrics from Google about how big the platform has grown.

A spokesperson for the company shared with 9to5Google exactly how many users use Android devices on their television. According to Google, Android TV and Google TV have more than 110 million monthly active devices combined. This is the first time since last May the company has publicly detailed its user base. In order to get users to spend more time on its professional social network, LinkedIn is preparing to launch a new virtual events platform for both audio and video.

As reported by TechCrunch, the company’s new events platform will allow creators and organizations to list, host and market interactive virtual events.

LinkedIn actually began looking into events before the pandemic began with the launch of its Events hub back in 2019. However, as more people started working from home, the company added online polls and video events to provide remote workers with access to events.

Now though with its new virtual events platform, LinkedIn will start out with an audio-only product similar to Clubhouse that will launch in beta this month followed by a video version that will be available in the spring.

Finalsite, an internet software house that provides school districts with website design, hosting, and content management solutions, has been hit by a ransomware attack.

Earlier this week, school districts whose websites are hosted by Finalsite discovered that they were no longer accessible or displayed errors. While at the time Finalsite blamed the issues on “performance difficulties” across different services, the Glastonbury, Conn.-based company has since confirmed the outage was caused by ransomware.

“On Tuesday, January 4, our team identified the presence of ransomware on certain systems in our environment,” the company said in a statement. “We immediately took steps to secure our systems and to contain the activity. We quickly launched an investigation into the event with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists, and began proactively taking certain systems offline.”

Finalsite spokesperson Morgan Delack told TechCrunch that 5,000 of its total 8,000 global customers — including school districts in Kansas City, Illinois, and Missouri — are affected by the incident. In addition to website outages, one Reddit user claimed the incident also prevented some schools from sending email notifications about school closures due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
