Massive Samsung Galaxy S22 specs leak leaves nothing to the imagination, High-quality Galaxy S22 renders reveal the final designs of all three models

We’re now less than a month away from Samsung’s reveal of the Galaxy S22. Well, Samsung hasn’t actually announced the phones yet, but it has confirmed that its next Unpacked event will take place in February. That’s where we expect to see the reveal of their next generation Galaxy smartphones. But you won’t have to wait that long to see high-quality renders of all three Galaxy S22 models, as a prolific leaker just shared them on Twitter.

Yesterday, we got our best look yet at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S22 phones, courtesy of renders shared by leaker Evan Blass. The complete specs sheet of all three Galaxy S22 series phones has now been leaked by German tech publication WinFuture.

As per the publication, Samsung’s vanilla Galaxy S22 will arrive with a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display featuring FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1,500 nits. The European variant of the phone is going to be powered by Samsung’s in-house developed Exynos 2200 chipset with AMD RDNA 2 graphics. It will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood in most other parts of the world, including the U.S.

Is a OnePlus 10 Ultra on the way?

Image: Oneplus

The OnePlus 10 Pro is official, and that name suggests a standard OnePlus 10 could also be along before too long, but a rumor suggests a brand-new member could join the OnePlus 10 line.

As per the title of this article, a rumor has suggested a OnePlus 10 Ultra could be in the works, joining the rapidly-growing tradition of Ultra smartphones. This comes from a rather unproven leaker and journalist called Yogesh Brar, who tweeted about the recent Oppo and OnePlus merger.

Apparently, the two sister brands are busy sharing technology, with the Oppo Find X5 series likely to borrow the Hasselblad camera branding that OnePlus phones use, and OnePlus gearing up to use Oppo’s MariSilicon X processing unit which enhances AI in photography.

Due to ongoing issues between the US government and Huawei, the phones won’t go on sale in the US, but those prices convert to about $1,470 and $1,355.

Xiaomi announces Redmi Note 11 series with iPhone-style flat sides

Image: Xiaomi

Xiaomi has announced the Redmi Note 11 series, continuing its popular line of budget-friendly handsets that sell in huge numbers in India and various other markets.

There are four phones in total, but they only differentiate themselves in a few specific areas. All of them have what Xiaomi describes as a “trendy flat-edge body” — in other words, yes, it looks like an iPhone — and most of the specs are shared across at least two models. Here’s how it all breaks down:

  • The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is the highest-end model and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with 5G support. The screen is a 6.67-inch 120Hz 1080p OLED panel, there’s a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging, and a 108-megapixel main camera backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro camera. It’s also the only phone in this lineup not to have a 2-megapixel “depth camera,” which is probably not a big loss.
  • The Redmi Note 11 Pro is essentially identical to the Pro 5G, but it uses a MediaTek Helio G96 processor that only supports up to LTE connectivity.
  • The Redmi Note 11 has a Snapdragon 680, a smaller 6.43-inch 90Hz 1080p LCD, a 50-megapixel main camera, 33W fast charging, and only goes up to 6GB rather than 8GB of RAM.
  • The Redmi Note 11S has the same screen and 33W fast charging as the Note 11 but the same Helio G96 processor, 108-megapixel main camera, and option for 8GB of RAM as the Note 11 Pro.

The next OnePlus Nord phone could feature insanely fast 80W charging

Image: Android Police

OnePlus is primarily known for its premium phones in the US, but its mid-range Nord phones are also very popular in Europe and Asia. The original Nord was a decent mid-ranger for its price that was followed by the capable Nord 2 in 2021. For this year, OnePlus is working on its sequel, the Nord 2T, which is expected to make its debut soon, and a new leak has detailed its complete specifications.

The leak from the reliable OnLeaks and courtesy of Digit claims the phone will feature a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset coupled with 6/8/12GB RAM and 128 or 256GB storage. This chip is yet to be announced by MediaTek, but going by the naming scheme, it should be a faster version of the Dimensity 1200 that’s found inside the Nord 2. Out of the box, the phone will purportedly run on OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12.

Other specs will seemingly remain unchanged, with the Nord 2T looking like a minor upgrade over its predecessor. It will likely retain the same 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display, 4,500mAh battery, and a triple-camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary shooter, 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. The Nord 2’s camera performance was nothing to write home about, so it remains to be seen whether OnePlus will make any improvements in this regard with the follow-up model. The only other notable upgrade could be a bump in charging speed to 80W, which should be good enough to top up the battery to 100% in around 30 minutes.

New AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX benchmark shows huge gains over Ryzen 9 5900HX

Image: AMD

Ever since AMD announced its next-ish-gen processors based on its Zen 3+ architecture, we haven’t heard much about them. But now a new benchmark leak might give us a deeper look at these CPUs in action before they start debuting in some of the best gaming laptops this year.

The benchmark appeared in the Geekbench Database on January 25 and gives details on the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, which is one level down from the company’s flagship Zen 3+ chip, the Ryzen 9 6980HX.

The eight-core/16-thread processor lists a base frequency of 3.30GHz and a boost frequency of 4.84GHz. The HX designation indicates that it is an unlocked processor, meaning that its TDP would be up to the OEM. The benchmark result doesn’t indicate the TDP of the chip during its test.

As for its results, they are impressive. It scores a 1,593 in single-core performance and a 10,151 in multi-core performance. This is about 12% and 33% better than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 5900HX, in single- and multi-core performance, respectively.

As VideoCardz points out, though, this still puts its performance below the Core i9-12900H Intel Alder Lake processor that it will be directly competing with.

Intel’s Alder Lake Core i9 processor actually is faster than the M1 Max*

PC fans will surely take these first round of results and use them to gloat and that’s fine. But Intel’s win here is full of caveats. For one, there are power consumption concerns and battery life. For another, the laptop tested costs $3,999 and represents the absolute top-of-the-line Intel has to offer in a laptop. Apple’s 14-inch MacBook Pro costs half as much and performs nearly as well.

In the end, though, comparing Alder Lake and the M1 ends up being a simple academic exercise that doesn’t amount to much. Rumors have popped up stating that Apple could continue to offer Intel processors in a Mac Pro to accommodate those power users who rely on Intel-native software, so there’s some relevance there. But otherwise, Apple’s Mac lineup is going to be completely M-based by the end of this year, so who cares how Intel processors do? If anything, the results reaffirm that Apple silicon on the Mac is the way to go—even for PC users.

Microsoft reported a profit of $18.8bn for the last three months of 2021, ahead of analysts expectations, but its share price initially slumped over 5% after another rocky day on Wall Street.

The Seattle-based software giant reported revenues of $51.7bn, an increase of 20% compared to the same period last year and ahead of expectations. But the news was not enough to impress investors who appear to have soured on the tech sector after a historic boom in share prices during the pandemic.

The Indian government wants to make its own rival to Android, iOS

The smartphone world is effectively a duopoly right now, with Android and iOS ruling the roost. However, the Indian government seems to think that there’s space for one more smartphone platform.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar told The Economic Times that the government was planning a policy that would enable the creation of a homegrown mobile operating system. The minister said that they were investigating the capabilities of startups and academic institutions to create this homegrown OS.

“There is no third one [mobile operating system – ed]. Therefore, in a lot of ways there is tremendous interest in MeitY and in the government of India to even create a new handset operating system. We are talking to people. We are looking at a policy for that,” Chandrasekhar was quoted as saying.
