Mobvoi teases its next TicWatch flagship smartwatch running Wear OS

Image: Chris Wedel/Android Central

The list of brands going onboard with the Wear OS 3 bandwagon keeps getting longer, with Mobvoi appearing to be gearing up for its next flagship smartwatch. The Chinese firm is apparently inviting volunteers to test out the rumored TicWatch Pro 4.

Reddit user has shared a screenshot of what seems to be an email from Mobvoi inviting customers to join its early access program for an upcoming TicWatch product (via 9to5Google). It didn’t specify the smartwatch in question, but the email does confirm a flagship Wear OS smartwatch is in the pipeline.

That said, Mobvoi is likely referring to the successor of the TicWatch Pro 3. It’s one of the best TicWatch smartwatches money can buy. In our review of the product, Chris Wedel touts its battery life, sensors, and health tracking features.

Mobvoi seems to be intent on continuing that trend with its next smartwatch. The company’s communication states that the upcoming TicWatch model will have a “long duration battery.” It will also supposedly have an “improved premium design,” suggesting that there’ll be no significant changes on the aesthetic front.

Besides 5G (with various bands, depending on the exact model), the phone also features dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.0, NFC. It also has a microSD card slot on board (it’s not clear if this means a hybrid slot on the dual SIM versions).

Additionally, the phone will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging (same as the 4G phone). The A23 5G will feature the Snapdragon 695 chipset as we’ve seen from Geekbench results.

Google advertises its apps (over ‘Android’) in Amazon store with curious major OEM descriptions

Image: 9to5Google

As of late – especially with Samsung – Google has been more prominently advertising the Android ecosystem and what it can do. The latest example is an Amazon store/brand page (in the US) called “Devices with Google.”

This differs from the Made by Google (Pixel, Nest, Chromecast, etc.) storefront in that it highlights just Android phones from different partners. A cover shows Google Duo with its foldable optimizations, YouTube, and Google Maps Live View.

India’s central bank wants to ban cryptocurrencies, government says

Image: Getty Images

India’s central bank wants to ban cryptocurrencies, the government told the parliament on Monday, raising more uncertainty about the future of the nascent virtual digital asset in the world’s second largest internet market.

Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance in India, said Monday that the Reserve Bank of India has expressed concerns about the “destabilising effect of cryptocurrencies on the monetary and fiscal stability of a country” and has recommended “for framing of legislation on this sector,” she said.

“RBI is of the view that cryptocurrencies should be prohibited,” she added.

Formulating any legislation for regulation or banning of crypto will require “significant international collaboration,” she added (PDF). The government stated its reasoning in response to a set of questions raised by Tholkappiyan Thirumavalavan, a member of parliament, in the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house.
