Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi today announced that the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition will be unveiled on February 16 at an event in China which will begin at 7PM local time.

Redmi is touting the K50 Gaming Edition as a “cold-blooded flagship” (machine translated from Chinese) but hasn’t divulged much about it. The company also hasn’t confirmed if it will unveil the Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, and Redmi K50 Pro+ on February 16, but you can expect more than one Redmi K50 series smartphone to go official next Wednesday.

With the event still a week away, Redmi will likely share more teasers in the coming days to build hype around the Redmi K50 series.

Lenovo Legion Y90 screenshots reveal more specs, confirm 18 GB RAM

The Lenovo Legion Y90 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, that is no news. The storage is listed as UFS 3.1 + SSD, meaning it will have 512 GB internal, and the other 128 GB are most likely through a micro SD card, although the Qualcomm chipset supports up to 2TB in theory.

The situation is similar with the RAM – 18GB LPDDR5 is built-in, while the other 4 GB will be part of the new trendy feature that expands the memory for a short period of time, using some of the storage space.

The OLED screen will support 144Hz refresh rate, along with a 720Hz touch sampling rate. The battery capacity is 5,600 mAh and the Y90 will support 68W fast charging. Other highlights include shoulder keys, Dolby Atmos support, and fancy cooling.

PSVR 2 could fix one of VR’s biggest, most uncomfortable problems

Image: Future

As incredible as playing many of the best VR games can be, many share a common issue in suffering from in-headset glare on the lenses, which can occur at any time in VR depending on the brightness settings and scene displayed on the screens behind the lenses. This can cause distress to the eye. However, a recently discovered Sony patent shows that PSVR 2 could include a way to eliminate god rays (or crepuscular rays) entirely.

As reported by RoadtoVR, the patent for the upcoming PS5 headset actually dates back to May, 2020, and is titled “Fresnel lens and manufacturing method for Fresnel lens.” While the patent does get into the finer details of the benefits of a Fresnel lens over a more traditional setup, the important part is in how Sony plans to implement such a lens into PSVR 2.

The patent states that Sony’s Fresnel lenses “can suppress a flare which is generated in an image visually recognized through the Fresnel lens so as to extend toward a center of a lens.” In layman’s terms, this would focus light beams at a different angle, thus preventing crepuscular rays from being beamed directly into the player’s eye.

Apple’s ‘realityOS’ for Rumored AR/VR Headset Referenced in Source Code

Apple's AR/VR headset could be priced above $2,000, feature M1 Pro-like performance - 9to5Mac

New references to “realityOS,” the AR/VR operating system that will run Apple’s rumored mixed reality headset, have been found in App Store upload logs and Apple open source code this morning.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the headset will feature two M1-style Apple silicon chips providing Mac-level computing power, and offer an innovative experience with seamless switching between AR and VR modes.
The AR/VR headset is expected to run a new operating system, previously referred to as “rOS,” which stands for Reality Operating System. Just as tvOS runs Apple TV, macOS runs Macs and watchOS runs Apple Watch, “rOS” is expected to power Apple’s AR headset. First unearthed by Bloomberg in 2017, the AR/VR operating system is internally codenamed “Oak.”

Following the release of macOS Monterey 12.2 last month, some Mac users who installed the software update started to experience excessive battery drain during sleep mode, seemingly due to Bluetooth accessories frequently waking up the machines. The issue appears to affect Macs running the first beta of macOS 12.3 as well.
Many affected users found their Mac’s battery life dropped from 100% to 0% while in sleep mode overnight. A few users tried to identify a cause in Terminal and found that Bluetooth accessories were frequently causing a “DarkWake from Deep Idle” that resulted in the Mac repeatedly waking from sleep and draining the battery’s charge.

Fortunately, it appears that the second beta of macOS 12.3 seeded today may resolve the issue. In a tweet, Mr. Macintosh said his 2018 MacBook Pro that was experiencing the issue on the first beta of macOS 12.3 is no longer affected on the second beta.
macOS 12.3 will likely be publicly released around March or April, providing a fix for all affected users. In the meantime, users can disable Bluetooth on their Mac or disconnect all Bluetooth accessories overnight to prevent battery drain.

Almost all of the Starlink internet satellites that a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried beyond the atmosphere on February 3rd won’t reach their intended orbit. SpaceX has revealed that a geomagnetic storm that took place a day after the liftoff had a severe impact on the satellites, and up to 40 of them will re-enter or have already entered Earth’s atmosphere. United States Geological Survey describes geomagnetic storms as periods of “rapid magnetic field variation” typically caused by a strong surge of solar winds.

Scientists Create Synthetic Tooth Enamel That’s Stronger Than Real Teeth

An international team of researchers developed the synthetic enamel to outperform the real thing, according to a paper of their findings published in the journal Science. If all goes well, the findings could finally provide a compelling solution to decaying teeth.

To develop it, the team needed to replicate the interconnected nanowires of calcium in natural teeth, according to a press release from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They were able to create a nanocomposite system that effectively imitated the toughness of actual enamel while maintaining its viscoelasticity.

They then tested the material by coating it to different shaped objects including human teeth. The team found it “exhibited high stiffness, hardness, strength, viscoelasticity, and toughness, exceeding the properties of enamel and previously manufactured bulk enamel-inspired materials,” according to the study.
