Oppo K10 is arriving on March 23 with a 50MP camera

Video: Oppo

Oppo teased the K10 in China with the Dimensity 8000 SoC a couple of weeks ago, but it’s yet to reveal its launch date in China. However, Oppo’s Indian branch has announced that the K10 will arrive in India next week – on March 23.

While Oppo hasn’t detailed the K10’s specs sheet, the company revealed the smartphone’s design and said it will flaunt the Glow Design, offering a blend of glossy and matte materials for a better in-hand feel.

The Oppo K10 will come in two colors, pack a punch hole screen, and sport a camera system on the rear headlined by a 50MP unit. The smartphone also has a USB-C port at the bottom, flanked by a speaker, microphone, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Oppo has promised to reveal more about the K10 in the days leading to the March 23 unveiling.

Honor Magic4 Ultimate Edition launching on March 17

Image: Honor

Honor already unveiled its Magic4 lineup consisting of Magic4 and Magic4 Pro but it still plans to have an event in its home market where it will also announce a new Magic4 Ultimate Edition/Pro+ model. The event is set to take place on March 17. Based on the provided teasers, Magic4 Ultimate Edition will bring an even larger main camera sensor than the Magic4 Pro but we still don’t get its actual specs.

In related news, China’s TEENA agency received three new Honor phone entries believed to be the Magic4(CMA-AN40), Magic4 Pro (VNE-AN00) and Magic4 Ultimate Edition (LGE-AN20). Unfortunately, the specs page has yet to be populated so we don’t get any additional details. Some rumors suggest that the new device will bring a custom Sony sensor larger than the one on the Magic4 Pro while the rest of the specs will more or less match the vanilla Pro.

Casio has overhauled a classic G-Shock design – and it looks awesome

Image: Gshock

Casio has unveiled a fresh take on the classic G-Shock MT-G watch, and it’s thinner and lighter than ever. The new G-Shock MTG-B3000 has a totally redesigned case, plus a new carbon Core Guard structure to protect the internal components from drops and knocks.

Much like the new Garmin Fenix 7 series, the MTG-B3000 features a tough plastic case with a metal exterior. However, while Garmin has opted for a glass fiber reinforced polymer, Casio has chosen a carbon fiber composite that’s more expensive, but lighter and with greater tensile strength.

The new G-Shock has a completely new case back. This is pressed, cut, and polished from a single piece of stainless steel, with raised sides forming the lugs that secure the band. It also forms guards that protect the watch’s buttons from accidental presses and damage – something that would normally have to be made from separate pieces of metal.

For comparison, many of Garmin’s latest watches, including the Fenix 7 series and Epix (Gen 2) have metal guards too, but only around the start/pause button.

Of course, this solid case back design is only an option due to the G-Shock’s lack of an optical heart rate sensor. Unlike last year’s G-Squad Pro, this isn’t a smartwatch, though it does have Bluetooth connectivity that allows you to link it to the Casio Watches mobile app to calibrate the time. You can also use the watch to find your phone if you misplace your handset.

PC gamers rejoice – we finally have a launch date for the Intel Arc GPU

Image: Intel

Intel’s Arc Alchemist graphics cards have been greatly anticipated in light of the ongoing GPU shortage, and we finally have an official launch date. The first wave of GPUs released will be for laptops, and are set to be unveiled at an official Intel Arc event on March 20 at 8 am PST / 11 am EST / 3 pm UK.

The Intel website has been updated with a dedicated page for the event, that teases ‘A New Stage of the Game’. It explicitly mentions that we’ll get to see “Intel Arc graphics take center stage and get a first look at our new discrete graphics for laptops”.

There are a few different versions of the discrete laptop GPU, but the Arc A370M will be the first to launch, as confirmed by the Vice President of Intel’s Visual Computing Group Lisa Pearce via a post on the Intel community blog.

This isn’t a powerhouse by any stretch, but you can expect twice the performance compared to integrated graphics, with Intel basing these claims on average framerates at 1080p Medium settings in Metro Exodus, against Iris Xe integrated graphics. This makes it great not only for PC gamers who like older games or titles with low hardware demands, but also creatives who want to squeeze some extra juice out of their laptop in applications like Blender or Maya.

Pearce states in the blog that “We have been hard at work preparing our Intel Arc graphics products for gamers and creators. It has been an incredible journey, and we are excited to begin launching our mobile family of Intel Arc A-series GPUs on March 30th and showcasing key technologies, like Intel Deep Link, XeSS, and more.”

We were initially hoping to see Arc Alchemist desktop GPU also launch in Q1, but in February, Intel revealed that they weren’t coming until the second quarter, expected to debut between May 2 and June 1.

Tesla raises prices across its entire EV lineup

homepage-social
Image: Tesla

Tesla has raised the prices of its electric vehicles for the second time within the month. After adding $1,000 to some long-range models last week, the automaker has now implemented a much larger price increase across its lineup. As Electrek reports, its prices now start at $46,990 for the base Model 3, $2,000 higher than before. The Model 3 Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive is now $2,500 more expensive at $54,490, and the Performance version now costs $3,000 more at $61,990.

Meanwhile, Model Y’s prices now start at $62,990, or $2,000 higher than before, for the Long Range version. Tesla has increased the Performance version’s pricing by $3,000, as well, which means it’ll now set you back $67,990. For both Model S options, Tesla has added $5,000 on top of their previous prices, so you’ll have to spend at least $99,990 for one. None of the other EVs got a price increase as big as the Model X, though, which now costs $10,000 more at $114,990.

iPhone 13 production starting in India in April after Foxconn plant placed on probation

Image: 9to5Mac

Foxconn has now apparently resolved the poor conditions, as India’s Business Standard reports that iPhone 13 production will now begin there in April.

Seven months after it was launched in India, Apple is expected to start manufacturing the iPhone 13 at the Foxconn plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai from April, according to sources. The phones will be for both the domestic and export market.

The production of the iPhone 13 in the Chennai plant was meant to start from January but had to be postponed after Apple suspended production following protests in December by women workers about food poisoning.

It’s not known what proportion of the phones made there will be for the export market, but Apple is working toward a diverse iPhone assembly network around the world. I recently argued that the Ukraine crisis served to highlight the company’s unsustainable dependence on China.

Intel to invest up to €80 billion in European Union to expand semiconductor manufacturing and development

Intel Eu Germany Rendering
Image: Intel

Intel announced plans to invest as much as €80 billion into semiconductor initiatives within the European Union. The company’s plans include an initial €17 billion investment to create a fab mega-site in Germany and will advance research and development and manufacturing across the EU. Intel will create a new R&D hub in France, expand its investment in its foundry services in Ireland, and increase its manufacturing and foundry services in Italy, Poland, and Spain.

It will take some time for the investment to yield results, but it should greatly expand Intel’s production capabilities with Europe once completed.

Intel will build two semiconductor fabs in Magdeburg, Germany, which is the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Planning will begin immediately, and construction should start in the first half of 2023. Those fabs should begin production in 2027, though that is pending European Commission approval.
