Motorola Moto G 5G (2022) specs and renders leak

Image: @onleaks

Last November, we saw a render of a Motorola smartphone codenamed “Austin,” having a centered punch hole display and a triple camera system on the rear headlined by a 50MP camera. Today, we are looking at a set of new renders which not only corroborate Austin’s design but also give us our best look yet at it.

These images come courtesy of leakster OnLeaks, who collaborated with Prepp.in and revealed that the marketing name of Motorola Austin is Moto G 5G (2022).

The source also said that the Motorola Moto G 5G (2022) has model code XT2213, and its screen measures 6.6″ diagonally. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 750G SoC and will run Android 11 out of the box, which is a bummer since Android 12 has been around for months now and Google has already dropped a couple of developer previews of Android 13.

Samsung could be prepping a phone powered by the Dimensity 9000 chip

Image: Android Police

MediaTek’s full-force entry into the flagship chip market late last year gave us the Dimensity 9000. It has already popped up in the wild, notably with Oppo’s Find X5 Pro, which launched boasting both a Snapdragon and a Dimensity flavor. If current rumors making the rounds are anything to go by, the chipset might soon be integrated into one of the biggest Android OEMs around — Samsung.

Per a post from Chinese tipster It’s Fat on Weibo (via Notebookcheck), it seems Samsung is working on a device powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this — it was previously rumored that Samsung was listed among the OEMs that will use the chip in the future. The post also mentions that this device could come with a 4,500 mAh battery and a price point between 3,000 and 4,000 Chinese yuan ($470-$630 USD).

vivo will ditch the NEX series to make way for the X lineup, a new leak reveals. The first phone is right around the corner, and today it appeared on the company store in China. We’re talking about the vivo X Note which will come with a 7” screen, and it will be a Samsung E5 AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution.

The listing revealed the phone will come with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is hardly a surprise. It is good to see vivo will implement its 3D ultrasonic big fingerprint area sensor which was a breakthrough solution in the iQOO 8 Pro.

We can also see 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, and leaksters from China said there will be a more affordable alternative with 256GB storage.

The main camera on the back will have a Samsung S5KGN1 sensor with 50MP resolution. It is the same sensor as in the vivo X70 Pro+ and the Google Pixel 6 Pro – both of which yield tremendous photos.

The battery capacity is reportedly 5,000 mAh with 80W fast-charging support.

Xiaomi Poco F4 stops by Geekbench with Snapdragon 870

Image: Geekbench

After getting a couple of certifications, including one from FCC, Xioami’s upcoming Poco F4 handset has now hit Geekbench.

The scoresheet lends credence to rumors that the Poco F4 will be a rebadged Redmi K40S that launched in China a couple of days ago. That’s because the phone is running the Snapdragon 870 SoC and the company has a history of renaming its Chinese phones for the global market.

The listing also shows 8GB of RAM and Android 12. The single-core and multi-core results are also in line with other Snapdragon 870-powered handsets.

The LG Gram laptops from last year arrived with 11th gen Intel processors and relied on the Iris Xe iGPUs. Now the company has unveiled upgraded laptops that feature 12th gen Intel processors and optional dedicated Nvidia RTX 2050 graphics.

There are two versions – LG Gram 16 and 17 (referring to the screen size in inches). Both feature 16:10 displays (2,560 x 1,600 px), IPS LCDs with 99% coverage of DCI-P3 and an anti-glare coating.

The 17” model comes with either an Intel Core i5 (i5-1240P) or an i7 (i7-1260P), the 16” one is only available with an i5. Some models rely on the Iris Xe iGPU, others are equipped with up to an RTX 2050.

As their name suggests, both laptops are quite light – the 16” one is 1,285g (with eGPU), the 17” one is 1,435g. And this is with a large 90 Wh battery built in, as large as you get get on an airplane. Note that the 90 Wh batteries are for laptops with Nvidia GPUs, the ones with only an iGPU get 80 Wh batteries. Either way, charging is done at 65W.

Apple blocks Android TV users from renting or buying content on Apple TV app

Apple TV app
Image: Android Authority

Over the past two years, there’s been quite a lot of controversy related to commission fees levied by both Apple and Google on their respective app stores. Although developers and content creators have fought back, the companies themselves haven’t really antagonized one another about it.

However, according to AppleInsider, Apple has blocked all rentals and purchases of media content from the Apple TV app on Android TV devices. This means if you have an Android TV (or Google TV) streamer, you can no longer buy content through Apple TV. Existing rentals and purchases appear to be unaffected.

If you use an Android TV-based device and try to buy content from Apple TV, there won’t be a “Buy” button. Instead, there is a “How to Buy” button that tells you to use an iPhone, iPad, or another streaming device. There’s no option to buy or rent the content once you reach this message.

Apple TV Plus content, though, is unchanged. You can still consume this content on your Android TV-based systems.

Apple hasn’t given a comment on this situation yet. However, with the info we have, it is very likely a response to Google’s 30% commissions (although Apple’s fee might be lower than 30%). Because the change only applies to purchased/rented content and not streaming content through Apple TV Plus, that’s the only logical conclusion.

For what its worth, you can still buy and rent content from Apple TV on many other platforms, including Roku, LG’s webOS, Samsung smart TVs, and more.

Samsung temporarily suspends the operation of its TV factory in Russia

samsung news
Image: Sammobile

In light of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Samsung has temporarily suspended the operation of its TV factory in Russia. Notably, according to a report by The Elec, the Samsung Electronics TV factory in Kaluga, near Moscow, is the one that is being temporarily shut down by the company.

This move was made because the company is facing hurdles in the supply of important parts of TV, such as panels. Not only Samsung, but LG is also evaluating options to suspend operations of its home appliance and TV factories in Russia.

The major concern for Samsung Electronics is that if the troubled macroeconomic situation continues to exist for a prolonged time, the management strategies of the company will be severely disrupted.
