Gaming laptops with Intel Arc Alchemist GPUs are about to launch

Image: Intel

Intel’s first Arc Alchemist graphics cards will be officially revealed on March 30, in just a few days, and will be followed in short order by the launch of the initial batch of gaming laptops carrying these GPUs.

We’d already been told about the press event on March 30, although now we know the exact timing – 8am PST (which is 3pm GMT) – and a fresh teaser tweet (showing a video of a closed laptop to indicate that these will be laptop graphics cards) was accompanied by an interesting reply from the Intel Support account on Twitter.

As you can see, that latter tweet clarifies that this launch is for the first Arc graphics cards, and that “OEM devices featuring Arc GPUs will be launched by the end of this month” (meaning laptops, of course).

So, apparently we’ll get our first look at Alchemist cards on March 30, with multiple notebooks carrying these GPUs being launched at the same time, or the day after.

Motorola Razr 3 foldable is tipped for a key spec upgrade

Image: Motorola

While that doesn’t make it absolutely certain that you’ll be able to pick up the next Motorola Razr with 512GB of storage space, it sounds like it’s a strong possibility. The phone is also being tipped to get a processor upgrade.

The original Motorola Razr was launched in 2019 and brought with it a maximum of 128GB of storage along with 6GB of RAM. Its successor, the Motorola Razr 5G in 2020, came with 256GB of storage space and 8GB of RAM. If Lenovo’s plans pan out, then the storage is going to double again in 2022.

For now we still don’t know all that much about Motorola’s upcoming foldable, though it was something of a surprise that there was no 2021 edition. We have also seen Lenovo playing around with a few different foldable phone concepts in patents.

vivo X Fold launch date confirmed – it is April 11

Video: Vivo

The vivo X Fold smartphone was officially confirmed on Friday and now we even get a launch date. It will debut on April 11 with a big screen on the inside, just like the Oppo Find N and Galaxy Z Fold3.

The new vivo phone will also have a secondary screen on the outside. The inner fold is not really a surprise given how all the competitors are going for the same factor, although we weren’t counting off an attempt from vivo to bring something different to the market, like an outwards hinge like the first Huawei Mate X.

The event in two weeks is also supposed to be the launch party for the X Note smartphone with a huge screen and battery, and we are waiting for vivo to give final confirmation on the matter.

The OnePlus 10R could be a rebranded Realme phone with 150W fast charging support

Image: Android Police

OnePlus is expected to have a busy few months ahead of it with a flurry of smartphone launches, including the global release of the OnePlus 10 Pro on March 31. This will then be followed by the launch of certain Nord-branded products in the mid-range segment. The BBK-owned company is reportedly also working on the OnePlus 10R — the successor to last year’s OnePlus 9R, which was essentially an Indian-exclusive rebranding of the OnePlus 8T. A new leak has now detailed the phone’s key specs and features.

A 91Mobiles report claims the 10R will feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. It will purportedly be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100 chip, though a previous rumor suggested OnePlus chose the Dimensity 9000 for it. The leak states the phone could miss out on the Alert Slider, a staple feature of OnePlus phones so far.

Other rumored specs include 8/12GB RAM with 128 or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The triple-camera system at the rear will reportedly include a 50MP Sony IMX766 shooter with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro camera. A 16MP shooter should be located in the display’s punch hole.

Intel will launch ‘world’s fastest’ desktop CPU on April 5

Intel’s Core i9-12900KS processor is set to launch on April 5, just over a week away.

The 12900KS will debut at the Intel Talking Tech event which will be streamed on Twitch at 12pm PT in the US (that’s 8pm UK time), during which expert PC builders will show off their skills putting together a number of machines, presumably around the new Alder Lake chip.

Intel bills the ‘KS’ version of its flagship – which essentially uses the best-performing 12900K silicon, capable of being pushed to higher clock speeds – as the ‘world’s fastest desktop processor’ based on the fact that it’s capable of boosting up to 5.5GHz.

That’s impressive, of course, but that speed can only be hit on a single-core over a limited period of time, with the rumor mill asserting that the all-core boost will be 5.2GHz (which again, is still impressive over the full 8 performance cores of this CPU).

M2 iPad Pro coming in fall 2022, Apple insider claims

Apple iPad Pro
Image: BGR

Apple just unveiled the iPad Air 5, the new mid-range iPad that offers the same performance as the 2021 iPad Pro. That’s thanks to the M1 System-on-Chip (SoC) that powers last year’s Pro and a variety of Macs. But Apple isn’t done updating the iPad Pro line, with the 2022 refresh likely to include the next-gen M2 SoC. The prediction comes from an Apple insider familiar with the company’s plans.

WhatsApp may soon let you share files as large as 2GB

WhatsApp 2GB file size limit
Image: wabetainfo

WhatsApp isn’t the best messaging app for sending large files. If you want to send 4K videos or large documents, something like Telegram would be a better option. That’s because WhatsApp has a file limit of 100MB. But that’s set to change soon as WhatsApp is reportedly working on increasing the file size limit.

According to frequent WhatsApp tipster WABetainfo, WhatsApp is testing the ability to share files up to 2GB in size. The feature has rolled out to some users in Argentina as part of the latest beta test on both Android and iOS.
