The Oppo K10 series is ready to enter the smartphone market, seven months after the arrival of the K9 lineup. The first phone will be the Oppo PGIM10, which is going to sell as Oppo K10 Pro. This device popped up on TENAA with images and specs, revealing it will be a competitive upper-tier midranger.

The chipset of the Oppo K10 Pro will be Snapdragon 888, as the CPU frequency is listed as 2.8 GHz. RAM will be 8GB or 12GB, and storage choices are 128GB and 256GB. There is a 6.62” AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution, and a fingerprint scanner underneath.

Oppo will stick to a triple-camera solution, but the design is now closer to the Reno7 series with two big circles positioned vertically, while a third one will be on the side. The sensors for the main camera will have 50MP resolution, while the ultrawide snapper will do 8MP stills. There’s also a 2MP unit, which is either a macro camera or a depth sensor. The selfie camera resolution is 16MP.

The battery capacity is listed by TENAA as 2,440mAh, but this is just one of the two cells in the device. The minimal charge is 4,880mAh, meaning the typical will be 5,000 mAh. The PGIM10 phone was already certified at 3C with 80W fast charging capabilities.

Samsung and Oppo Seek to Rival iPhone A-Series Chips With Custom Designs and TSMC Fabrication

Image: Oppo

Samsung and Oppo are planning to transition to custom silicon chips to rival Apple’s A-series chips in the iPhone, according to recent reports.
Earlier this year, Chinese smartphone brand Oppo launched its first custom silicon chip, the MariSilicon X image processor, in the Find X5. Now, the company’s chip design team is developing an application processor (AP) and an entire custom System on Chip (SoC) for future Oppo devices, IT Home reports. Like Apple’s custom silicon chips, Oppo is looking to TSMC to manufacture its chips.

IT Home suggests that Oppo will launch its custom AP, manufactured with TSMC’s 6nm process, in 2023. This will reportedly be followed by a full SoC, integrating the AP and modem, manufactured with TSMC’s 4nm process, in 2024. The chips may not be comparable to offerings from Qualcomm and Mediatek in terms of efficiency and fabrication processes, but they could be adopted in entry-level mobile products first before increasing market penetration over time.

The OnePlus 10 Pro wasn’t accompanied by the OnePlus 10, so those wanting an affordable flagship-level phone have to either choose an older device or look elsewhere. Now, a frequent leaker has asserted that the vanilla model could still be in the works.

Tipster Yogesh Brar claimed on Twitter that OnePlus is readying a Dimensity 9000 smartphone for a “limited release.” Brar further suggests that this device could be the OnePlus 10.

Over a year ago the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini launched in India at ₹7,000 and proved to be one of the more popular smartwatches from the company. Now it has come out with a new version, which knocks the price down to ₹6,000, which will go on sale on the official store and Amazon.in on April 11 (Monday). Note that there will be a special launch discount of ₹1,000 only on the 11th.

The company simply calls the watch “Amazfit GTS 2 Mini (new version)”, although a side by side comparison shows only actual change (other than the price, of course).

The watch has a 1.55” AMOLED display (306 x 354 px, 301 ppi, 450 nits) with over 80 watch faces (nearly 50 of which were professionally designed). The Always On function offers over 60 designs.

Why solid-state lithium-metal batteries could revolutionize the EV industry

Researchers have turned to solid-state battery tech, replacing the separator and liquid electrolyte with solid equivalents. These reduce the risk of unwanted chemical reactions and short circuits when they come into contact with the lithium anode.

So far, a number of companies that are applying the technology to lithium-metal batteries are on track to deliver promising products.

QuantumScape has developed a ceramic solid electrolyte and separator, while Solid Power has created sulfide-based electrolyte technology. Funded by the US Department of Energy’s ARPA-E, battery company 24M is working on a polymer/solid electrolyte ceramic blend.

Meta Reportedly Working on Virtual Currency ‘Zuck Bucks’

Mark Zuckerberg warns about Facebook 'becoming arbiters of truth' - The Verge

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is reportedly planning to introduce virtual currency to its apps, according to a report Tuesday by the Financial Times. Employees have internally dubbed this virtual currency “Zuck Bucks,” according to the report.

The currency is reportedly unlikely to be a form of crypto based on blockchain. Instead, Zuck Bucks are more likely to work as simple in-app tokens, similar to Roblox’s Robux or Fortnite’s V-Bucks, according to Financial Times. This new project comes after the Meta left behind Diem, its troubled cryptocurrency project, earlier this year.

A Meta spokesperson said the company continuously considers new products.  “As a company, we are focused on building for the metaverse and that includes what payments and financial services might look like.”
