From Pixel 6a to the Pixel Watch, here are all of Google’s upcoming release dates

Image: Google

We know a lot about Google’s roadmap for Pixel devices, but when is everything coming out? Here’s everything we know about the release dates for Pixel 6a, Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel Watch, and the Pixel Tablet.

  • Pixel 6a – Locked in for a formal release date, the Pixel 6a is set to arrive this summer. Specifically, the $449 mid-range phone will arrive on July 21, 2022. On that date, the Pixel 6a will go up for pre-order online, with a firm release date of July 28, 2022. Pixel 6a packs a Google Tensor processor, 6.1-inch OLED display, and a 12MP primary camera. The phone is largely similar to the flagship Pixel 6, but $150 cheaper.
  • Pixel Buds Pro – Like the Pixel 6a, the Pixel Buds Pro also have a confirmed release date. Google’s flagship earbuds will see a pre-order date on July 21, 2022, with Pixel Buds Pro seeing their formal release a week later on July 28, 2022. Pixel Buds Pro cost $199 and deliver active noise cancellation, spatial audio, and more within a truly wireless earbud design that houses a custom audio processor. The case offers wireless charging, and the earbuds are expected to last up to 11 hours on a single charge.
  • Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: When do they come out? – Moving on to products without a firm release date, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are currently only confirmed for their launch in fall 2022. Generally speaking, Google has released its flagship smartphones during the month of October, so it’s safe to say that’s when we’ll see these new devices too. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro evolve on the design established with the Pixel 6 and also deliver a “next-gen” Tensor processor.
  • Pixel Watch – After years of teases and false starts, the Pixel Watch finally has a release date. Well, not a firm release date, but Google has confirmed that the product will launch alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro which, again, is coming in fall 2022. The Pixel Watch will offer Wear OS 3 with deep Fitbit integration, all in a new circular design. The Pixel Watch will offer Wear OS 3 with deep Fitbit integration, all in a new circular design.
  • Pixel Tablet – For the first time in nearly a decade, Google has an Android tablet in the pipeline. The Pixel Tablet is set for a release date sometime in 2023, but there’s no concrete information beyond that. The “premium” tablet would likely arrive alongside either the Pixel 7a or the Pixel 8, meaning we’d either see it around summer 2023 or, more likely, fall 2023.

OnePlus Nord Buds landing in June, Nord 2T arrives May 19

Image: Oneplus

We’ve yet to get pricing for the Nord Buds in Europe, but the company has confirmed it is set to announce two new smartphones next week on May 19 that are unlikely to come to the US. Those are the OnePlus Nord 2T and OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite, according to a teaser from the company. Rumors, and precedent from previous Nord products, mean we think both of these phones will only be available in specific markets, and it’s unlikely we’ll see these products make their way to the US. It’s thought this is an alternative to the OnePlus Nord N20 5G, which was revealed for the US last month.

If you’re still interested, OnePlus is hosting a launch event on May 19 at 10am ET / 3pm BST to reveal the new products. Today’s teaser confirms the Nord 2T 5G will feature 80W Super VOOC charging that we saw on the OnePlus 10 Pro. This phone has leaked extensively in the last week with an unboxing video showing us almost everything you need to know about the new phone. The OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite has previously been revealed in India, and it features a Snapdragon 695 chipset, 5G support, a 120Hz screen, and 33W fast-charging. We don’t know whether this phone will differ when it is revealed for other markets on May 19.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 renders provide a clear look at a disappointing phone

Image: 91Mobiles

We’ve heard a number of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 but until now we hadn’t actually seen what it looked like. Now though we have, at least assuming some unofficial new renders are right.

Shared by @OnLeaks (a leaker with a good track record) on behalf of 91Mobiles, the renders are high-quality and show the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in blue – though apparently it will (unsurprisingly) be available in multiple shades.

The phone in the renders could easily be mistaken for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 though, because it looks identical other than the color, and according to the source it also has a 6.7-inch foldable screen, just like the current model.

Google’s affordable Pixel 6a is officially coming to India later this year

Pixel fans in India rejoice! The newly announced Pixel 6a is officially coming here, marking the return of Google’s Pixel line to the Indian smartphone market after nearly a two-year hiatus.

There have been rumors in the past weeks that Google might bring the Pixel 6a to India, and that has indeed turned out to be the case. While Google’s official announcement didn’t make any mention of the international availability of the Pixel 6a, the company tweeted out last night that the phone will be coming to India later this year.

Image: Macrumors

Notebook manufacturers in major cities in eastern China have been resuming operations following the recent gradual easing of lockdowns, but those in Shanghai are currently only operating at 10-20% capacity, according to supply chain sources cited by DigiTimes.

Shanghai is the base of operations for Quanta Computers, Apple’s sole supplier of high-end MacBook Pros, which have seen delivery times increase by three to five weeks since the China lockdowns. Some MacBook Pro configurations currently are not available for delivery until late June running into early July.

According to the report, Shanghai plants are still feeling the brunt of restrictions since only assembly workers and those who live in dormitories are allowed to return to work.

Meanwhile, many products are said to be trapped on container ships waiting to enter ports, and until these products are received by retail and shipped to customers, large-scale pull-ins at production facilities are on hold. The slow restoration of operations has also reportedly resulted in component pull-in strength being far below expectations.

Google brings Emergency SOS to Wear OS, expands Earthquake Alerts

Image: Google

Amidst all of the hardware announcements during the I/O 2022 keynote, Google also shared some new software features that are soon to be on the way. These latest features surround personal safety, as Emergency SOS alerts are coming to the best Wear OS smartwatches.

This is something that is already available on the best Android phones, as it allows you to easily contact a trusted friend, family member, or call emergency services from your wrist. Once available, Emergency SOS can easily be activated, with a prompt appearing to select emergency services or your trusted contacts.

You’ll also find a large button at the bottom to cancel the SOS call being made, with a button to end the call and another one providing more options appearing after the call has been made. As expected, your Wear OS smartwatch will need to be paired to a phone with a network connection or have built-in cellular connectivity. We wouldn’t be entirely surprised if Emergency SOS for Wear OS doesn’t start rolling out until the Pixel Watch is officially released.

Google also confirmed that earthquake warnings are being expanded into more “high risk” areas. We’re expecting to learn more about this over the coming months, but Google didn’t provide specifics in regards to which regions the feature is coming to.

This isn’t a brand new feature but makes use of your phone’s accelerometer along with regional information to determine whether an earthquake has occurred. From there, you will receive a notification on your phone that will then be shared with those around you. If possible, the notification will also provide information in regards to how you can remain safe in the event of an earthquake.

These Nanobots Can Swim Around a Wound and Kill Bacteria

For over a decade, Samuel Sánchez, a chemist with the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia, in Barcelona, has been envisioning nanobots that could carry useful payloads, like cancer drugs or antibiotics, through the body’s viscous fluids.

Picture a spherical particle of silica, which functions as a chassis. Sánchez has shown that you can dot its surface with a mess of special proteins that propel the particle through fluid, like little motors. His lab has experimented with different chassis, motors, and cargo. In research published in late April, they joined forces with antibiotics researchers. The team loaded silica nanobots with experimental antibiotics—including one derived from wasp venom—to treat infected wounds on mice. The nanobots, which were dropped onto one end of an infected wound, traveled through the skin to treat the entire area—the first report of nanobots killing bacteria in animals.

Tether Sinks Below $1 in Nightmare Scenario for Bitcoin’s Future

Image: Marco Bello (Getty Images)

The cryptocurrency market continued to hemorrhage money Thursday, with the most popular coins down double-digit percentages over the past 24 hours. And absolutely no one knows when things will bottom out, with many people worried the entire market of fake digital money could go to zero as the stablecoin Tether officially traded below $1 for the first time ever early Thursday.

Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency in the world, is down 11.2% over the past day, currently sitting at $27,959—roughly 58% lower than its all-time high of $69,000 in mid-November. Ethereum has struggled even worse in the past 24 hours, down 19.9% to a price of $1,930.

The culprit for the crypto bloodbath was a chain reaction that started over the weekend when Terra’s stablecoin, TerraUSD, which is theoretically supposed to stay at $1, became “depegged” and started trading below a dollar. That sent shockwaves through the crypto community, since stablecoins are supposedly backed by real assets and aren’t just Monopoly money. At least that was the promise, despite investigative reporters finding it’s all a game of smoke and mirrors.

Apple Loses Position as World’s Most Valuable Company to Oil Giant Aramco

Image: Macrumors

Apple stock fell by around 5% on Wednesday to $146.50, down nearly 20% since the start of the year. Apple’s market capitalization dropped to $2.37 trillion.

Oil giant Saudi Arabian Aramco regained the top spot from Apple, a position it lost to the iPhone maker in 2020. Aramco’s stock has risen by more than 27% this year and profits doubled last year due to soaring oil prices. Aramco’s stock market valuation is now just under $2.43 trillion.

Investors have been selling shares in technology companies and cryptocurrency for less risky assets, following a move by central banks to increase interest rates in an attempt to offset the impact of rising prices.
