New OnePlus 10T renders highlight the design differences with the 10 Pro

Video: Smartprix

Earlier this month we saw speculative renders of the OnePlus 10T with a somewhat unusual design. Now @OnLeaks has published new renders that look much closer to the 10 Pro design, though still with some notable differences.

These new renders are allegedly based on real life photos of a pre-production unit. They show that the camera bump on the back won’t span the full width of the phone like the earlier renders did.

The leakster highlights the changes between the current OnePlus 10 Pro and the upcoming 10T. The metal frame will apparently be replaced by a plastic one and the design of the bump will be tweaked, especially the beveling around it.

Two major changes to note: first, the display will be flat and second, the Alert slider is missing. This has become a bit of a theme with recent OnePlus launches, which have lost one of the trademark features of the brand that has been there nearly since the beginning. It is now exclusive to Pro models, apparently.

Retail leak shows the M2 MacBook Air hitting shelves in two weeks

Image: Apple

Apple’s new M2-based MacBook Air, which was announced at WWDC earlier this month, could be hitting shelves in just two weeks. That’s according to a “retail source” cited by MacRumors, in a news story the site describes as an exclusive.

At the time of the announcement, Apple said only that the M2 Air would launch at some point in July. If MacRumors’ source is accurate, the hardware will appear in stores on July 15, while pre-orders are likely to begin a week earlier, on July 8.

The MacBook Air M2 starts at $1,199, with several chip, SSD and RAM options that push it much higher. If the M2 MacBook Pro is any indication, custom amounts of memory and storage will likely see longer shipping times. The M1 version is still available from $999.

iQOO 10 Pro appears on TENAA with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset

Image: Iqoo

The iQOO 10 series is expected to arrive soon, and reports are at least one of the phones will have a Dimensity 9000+ chipset. We assume this is the vanilla version, because the Pro was just certified by TENAA with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. The listing revealed a bunch of other specs so let’s dig in.

The iQOO 10 Pro will inherit the 6.78” AMOLED with 1440p resolution from its predecessor. The vivo brand certified the phone with four RAM options – 6/8/12/16GB, and three memory choices – 128/256/512GB.

There are two 50MP cameras on the back alongside a 14.6MP snapper – those closely resemble the iQOO 9 Pro, but sensor changes are not to be ruled out.

Google’s DIY Pixel repair is here, and it looks better than Apple’s version for iPhones

Image: Future

Not so long ago, Apple started allowing iPhone users to repair certain faults for themselves, and now Google has started offering a similar service to Pixel owners.

In partnership with iFixit, Google now offers parts and repair kits catering to a myriad of mobile maladies, covering the original Pixel through to the Pixel 6 line – though the exact selection of parts and supported phones seems to vary a bit from country to country.

You can order a kit online, and it’ll come with the relevant replacement parts, along with the tools necessary to fit them. iFixit also provides detailed repair manuals for all supported fixable problems; available fixes include replacements for the screen, rear cameras, batteries, and in some cases, the charging assembly.

Pixel’s Car Crash Detection feature might soon make its way to other Android devices

Google recently rolled out an update for the Personal Safety app on Pixel devices. A teardown of the latest release has revealed new strings suggesting that the Pixel-exclusive Car Crash Detection feature might soon make its way to other Android phones.

The following strings in Personal Safety v2022.05.25 (via Mishaal Rahman) clearly mention “nonpixel” in the string names, suggesting that the Car Crash Detection feature might not be a Pixel-exclusive offering for long.

For the unaware, the Car Crash Detection feature is currently only available on Google’s Pixel devices, and it uses the location, motion sensors, and ambient audio to detect a car crash. Once it detects a crash, it plays a loud sound and asks users if they need any help. In case of no response, it automatically dials 911 and shares your phone’s location. Interestingly, the feature works even when the Personal Safety app is not in use.

WhatsApp Reactions now support all available emoji on the beta channel

Image: XDA

According to a report by WABetaInfo, users running WhatsApp beta versions 22.14.0.71 on iOS and 2.22.15.6 on Android will get to use any emoji as a Message Reaction. If you don’t spot this addition just yet, give it time. That’s because it is a server-side, gradual rollout. When available to you, you will notice a new plus (+) icon. It’s right next to the default emoji reactions when holding on a WhatsApp message. By clicking it, you get access to the entire emoji library, where you get to react with any of them — including skin tone variations.

AdDuplex report shows Windows 11 usage growth, but it’s still third place

Image: AdDuplex

AdDuplex has released its monthly usage share report for modern Windows versions, and it shows that Windows 11 is still growing, albeit at a relatively slow pace. Microsoft’s newest operating system is still in third place, but it grew to 23.1% usage share among all Windows 10 and 11 versions. That’s the first time it breaks past 20% usage share, after being stuck in the 19% range since the February report.

That still leaves it behind the two most recent versions of Windows 10 – version 21H2 and 21H1. Windows 10 version 21H2 is still the most used, and it actually grew a bit more in June, reaching 38.2% share, up from 35% in April, which is when the previous report was released. That growth is balanced out by a drop in usage of Windows 1o version 21H2, which fell from 26.4% to 23.9% over the past two months, just barely holding onto second place.
