Huawei launched the Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro in China last month, but is now bringing the former to the global market, the company announced on Thursday. Additionally, the new Huawei Watch GT 3 is joining it, now running Harmony OS.

The Nova 9 has a decent-sounding 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and responsive 300Hz touch sampling rate. On the back is a 50MP RYYB sensor, which Huawei claims can capture 40% more light than traditional RGGB sensors. There’s also an 8MP ultrawide camera as well as macro and depth sensors.

Of course, you won’t find Google services on the Nova 9, which runs the company’s own Harmony OS. The device is also powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset, although without 5G as per the terms of Qualcomm working with the Huawei amid continued tensions with the U.S.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,300mAh battery with support for 66W fast-charging.

The company also announced the new Huawei Watch GT 3 running Harmony OS 2.1 for better synergy with other products running the OS. Along with the new interface, Huawei brings many of the features you’d expect on the best Android smartwatches such as continuous heart rate monitoring, an SpO2 tracker, sleep monitoring, and more.

The Huawei Watch GT3 features more than 100 workout modes, including 18 professional workout modes, 12 outdoor workouts, and six indoor workouts.

Honor X30 Max, X30i to arrive on October 28

Honor X30 Max, X30i to arrive on October 28

Honor will unveil a new affordable phone called Play 5 Vitality on Monday, and just four days later we’ll see two shiny new devices – the Honor X30 Max and Honor X30i. Their design was revealed by the company on Weibo when it confirmed the October 28 launch at 14:30 local time.

These phones will be launched right in time for the massive shopping holiday in China on November 11, better known as Singles’ Day (because 11.11).

The Honor X30i has already leaked online, and we expect a Dimensity 810 chipset, 6.7” LCD with Full HD+ resolution and a 4,000 mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging – nothing extraordinary or unexpected for a midranger.

What is surprising is the Honor X30 Max – at a first glance, it looks like the Honor X10 Max, and we’re wondering if the company is really going to reintroduce the same phone with two cameras and updated chipset, or is this some sort of convoluted advert that we’re not getting.

The new device is reportedly coming with a 7.09” Full HD+ screen, Dimensity 900 chipset and plenty of storage – up to 256 GB.

iFixit teams up with former Apple engineers to teardown Apple Watch Series 7

Image: Ifixit

In terms of repairability, iFixit was able to successfully replace the display and Taptic Engine without affecting any of the Apple Watch’s features. The company also managed to replace the battery, and Series 7 even works with a Series 6 battery – although this is not recommended.

iFixit’s final Apple Watch Series 7 repairability score is 6 out of 10, as taking the Apple Watch apart is not exactly easy. You can find more details about Apple Watch Series 7 teardown on the iFixit website.

Some retailers are already selling Intel Alder Lake processors, at a cheap price

Reddit user u/Seby9123 apparently received two Intel Core i9-12900K processors, two weeks ahead of the rumored release date. We always recommend handling random Reddit posts with skepticism, but the images of the processor and its box are hard to argue with. The user posted images of the Core i9-12900K — there’s no arguing with that.

You can see a few of the images above detailing the intricacies of the packaging and the processor itself. The box lines up with a leaked render, which showed the Core i9-12900K sandwiched between a replica of a golden wafer slice.

Even more interesting than the box is the price. The original poster said they paid only $610 for each processor before tax. That’s $60 more than last-gen’s Core i9-11900K, but still $190 less than AMD’s competing Ryzen 9 5950X. If leaked benchmarks are true, Intel could be going for an aggressive price/performance target.

Microsoft has officially fixed an L3 cache performance bug that has been vexing AMD Ryzen owners since the release of the new OS.

The Windows 11 Update released today, KB5006746, “Addresses an L3 caching issue that might affect performance in some applications on devices that have AMD Ryzen processors after upgrading to Windows 11 (original release).”

The Ryzen fix is among other improvements and fixes to the new OS, but Ryzen owners are likely hot to mash the Windows Update button in Windows 11. The L3 bug has been said to increase Ryzen’s latency by as much as 3x but that may have been kind. Testing by Paul Alcorn of Tom’s Hardware found Windows 10 had 12x the bandwith with a Ryzen versus Windows 11.

Here’s our first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, likely coming in 2022

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Leaked Render 1

The darker-colored area of the back of the tablet is likely a magnetic panel to hold an S Pen stylus. Over the years, the stylus has come free with the tablet, and that would likely be the case for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 pictured here.

It is very unlikely Samsung would push this tablet out this year. Instead, it’s far more likely we’d see it launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S22 family in early 2022. It’s also possible Samsung could launch it without an event, which it has done for tablets in the past.

Raspberry Pi Just Increased Prices For the First Time: Here’s Why

This week, we learned that the popular Raspberry Pi is getting its first price hike ever, going up by $10 due to supply chain issues. However, CEO Eben Upton confirmed that the company is reintroducing the 1GB Pi 4 for $35 for those on a budget, which was discontinued last year.

To be more specific, the popular Raspberry Pi 4 with 2GB of RAM is getting bumped up from $35 to $45 due to pandemic-driven supply chain problems, especially in regards to semiconductors. Thankfully, there is a silver lining, as it looks like the price increase is only temporary.

“These changes in pricing are not here to stay,” Upton wrote. “As global supply chain issues moderate, we’ll keep revisiting this issue, and we want to get pricing back to where it was as fast as we can.”

Twitter admits bias in algorithm for rightwing politicians and news outlets

Who Made That Twitter Bird? - The New York Times
Image: NewYorkTimes

Twitter has admitted it amplifies more tweets from rightwing politicians and news outlets than content from leftwing sources.

The social media platform examined tweets from elected officials in seven countries – the UK, US, Canada, France, Germany, Spain and Japan. It also studied whether political content from news organisations was amplified on Twitter, focusing primarily on US news sources such as Fox News, the New York Times and BuzzFeed.

The study compared Twitter’s “Home” timeline – the default way its 200 million users are served tweets, in which an algorithm tailors what users see – with the traditional chronological timeline where the most recent tweets are ranked first.
