The vivo Y21T expected to debut in India on January 3 is already official in Indonesia. However, it’s not an entirely new smartphone. It’s actually a Y33s with a different chip, screen, and selfie camera.

The vivo Y33s is powered by the Helio G80 SoC, while the V21T has the Snapdragon 680 at the helm. The diagonal of the 6.58″ LCD has been reduced to 6.51″, and so is the resolution, from FullHD+ to HD+. Moreover, vivo swapped the 16MP selfie shooter with an 8MP unit while also ditching the NFC chip.

The rest of the vivo Y21T’s specs include Android 11-based Funtouch OS 12, triple card slot (2 SIM + 1 microSD), side-mounted fingerprint reader, USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, 5,000 mAh battery, and 18W charging.

The triple camera system on the AG Matte back consists of 50MP primary, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth units.

The vivo Y21T comes in a single 6GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration. The former can be extended virtually by 2GB, and the latter up to 1TB using a microSD card.

The vivo Y21T comes in Midnight Blue and Pearl White colors and is available for purchase in Indonesia through online retailer Shopee for IDR3,099,000 ($215/€190).

OnePlus 10 Pro leak reveals all of the phone’s key specs

Image: Techradar

We’re edging closer to the launch of the OnePlus 10 and its Pro variant, and the latest leak around the phone would seem to clear up any uncertainty about the key specs that the OnePlus 10 Pro is going to arrive with.

As revealed by tipster @ishanagarwal24 on Twitter, the Pro model is set to come with a 6.7-inch display running at a speedy refresh rate of 120Hz. It’s set to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which is likely to show up in a lot of top-tier Android handsets over the next 12 months.

Around the back, the leak suggests the handset is going to have a triple-lens 50MP+48MP+8MP camera put together in partnership with Hasselblad, and there’s rumored to be a 32MP selfie camera on the front.

Interestingly enough, it sounds as though the phone is going to be running the usual OxygenOS software from OnePlus, rather than the combination of OxygenOS and ColorOS that is in the works now that OnePlus has merged with Oppo.

Finally, we also have a picture of the OnePlus 10 Pro in both black and green shades, giving us another look at the back of the handset. This matches up with what we saw in a leaked video that hit the web yesterday.

New Galaxy S22 Ultra leak confirms it’s the new Galaxy Note

Leak shows purported Galaxy S22 Ultra press render
Image: BGR

The Galaxy Note’s triumphant return is closing in, although the next Note might not actually be called the Galaxy Note 22. For the time being, we’re calling it what everyone else calls it: Galaxy S22 Ultra. That’s the largest Galaxy S22 version that Samsung will launch in mid-February, and the only one that will feature an S Pen stylus. Unlike the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the successor will come with a built-in S Pen, just like all the Galaxy Notes that house their S Pens. As a result, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a Note design, one that has leaked over and over. After seeing a press render a few days ago, we now have the best possible look at the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s a new press render leak that shows everything, and it comes from a reliable source.

We’ve been talking about the Galaxy S22 Ultra “Note” design for a few months. The first rumors sounded like wishful thinking from diehard Note enthusiasts who were still mourning the Note 21. They said the Galaxy S22 Ultra would feature a built-in stylus, effectively becoming the new Note handset.

Then, more and more reports offered the same claims. Soon enough, the first unofficial renders emerged, pointing out the obvious differences between the regular Galaxy S22 models and the Ultra version.

Weeks before the press renders started showing up online, we heard the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus will feature flat screens and rounded corners. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will supposedly have a display with curved edges, rectangular corners, along with flat top and bottom edges.

Check out all the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra colors to choose from in these new renders

Image: Android Police

It’s almost 2022, and that means we’re closer than ever to the launch of Samsung’s next-gen flagships. We’ve already got a glimpse of what’s to come, thanks to leaked press renders of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but now a new leak gives us a little more to chew on, along with some official-looking renders of the smallest member of the family, the Galaxy S22.

The new imagery of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, courtesy of 91Mobiles, not only shows us the device from more angles but also give us a glimpse of its multiple colorways. It looks very similar to the S21 Ultra except that notable camera module is no more; the indivdual camera lenses themselves jut out from the body, likely to accommodate the sizeable sensors the phone is expected to have.

Samsung likes to give shoppers a nice assortment of color choices with every generation, and the S22 Ultra is no different in that regard. It looks like it’ll be offered in at least four different colors—white, black, olive green, and rose gold/burgundy—but their availability could differ by region.

Video teaser shows off the OnePlus 10 Pro’s design and that big camera

We caught our first glimpse of the OnePlus 10 Pro in early November and the leaks and rumors have not stopped since. At this point we know almost everything there is to know about the device, including the chipset, camera setup, battery, and fast charging capability. But for all those changes, perhaps the most prominent — love it or hate it — is the new wrap-around camera bump. Previous renders showed us the phone’s design, and now we get to take an even closer look at the OnePlus 10 Pro courtesy of a video teaser.

What looks like an official pre-launch video was posted to Weibo, featuring the OnePlus 10 Pro in all its glory (per 9to5Google). The video starts by showing off the screen with its hole-punch selfie camera on the top-left (like this year’s OnePlus 9 series) before moving over to the back of the device, where the action takes place. Here, we see the black colorway with its gigantic camera bump and Hasselblad branding. We also get to see a green-colored unit, which appears much richer here than previous renders suggested.

Google pushes Android users to update Microsoft Teams to prevent now-fixed 911 bug

Image: 9to5Google

Earlier this month, Google confirmed that a bug between Microsoft Teams and Android could lead to users being unable to reliably call 911. That issue has since been fixed, but Google is now notifying users over email to update the app if they haven’t already done so.

An email push going out to some Android users as documented on Twitter and Reddit comes directly from Google to let users know about the potentially serious issue.

As we covered earlier this month, the bug came to light as one Pixel owner found that his phone was unable to complete a call with 911 during an emergency. Google’s investigation later found that the issue was caused, at least in that user’s case, by an unintentional interaction between Microsoft Teams and the Android operating system. A fix for the 911/emergency services issue was released by Microsoft Teams just a few days later in an app update, and Google will be addressing the bug in Android itself in a coming software update. The serious issue affects not just 911, but all emergency services numbers.

Google’s email to users, which you can read in full below, links to a support page created to address the problem. Notably, Google adds on this page that the issue apparently affects devices running Android versions as old as Android 8.0 Oreo. Previously, it was thought that the issue only affected Android 10 and up.

Watch Hyundai turn an Ioniq 5 EV into a giant air purifier

In the process of developing a new car, automakers build dozens — if not hundreds — of prototype and preproduction models that can’t legally be sold to the public. A few are held on to for further development or preservation purposes, but most get recycled or crushed, which feels incredibly wasteful. When faced with that end-of-the-road conundrum for one particular Ioniq 5 EV preproduction SUV, Hyundai let its engineers loose to find it a second, more useful life. Their solution? A large air purifier.

Germany shuts down half of its remaining nuclear plants

Image : AP(The Hindu)

Germany on Friday is shutting down half of the six nuclear plants it still has in operation, a year before the country draws the final curtain on its decades-long use of atomic power.

The decision to phase out nuclear power and shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy was first taken by the centre-left government of Gerhard Schroeder in 2002.

His successor, Angela Merkel, reversed her decision to extend the lifetime of Germany’s nuclear plants in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan and set 2022 as the final deadline for shutting them down.

The three reactors now being shuttered were first powered up in the mid-1980s. Together they provided electricity to millions of German households for almost four decades.

One of the plants — Brokdorf, located about 40 km (25 miles) northwest of Hamburg on the Elbe River — became a particular focus of anti-nuclear protests that were fuelled by the 1986 Chernobyl catastrophe in the Soviet Union.

The other two plants are Grohnde, about 40 km south of Hannover, and Grundremmingen, 80 km west of Munich.
