Samsung opens reservations for Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 today with extra $50 credit

Image: @onleaks

The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 are set to arrive next month, and Samsung is today opening up reservations to hold a spot for a pre-order of either device with an additional $50 credit to boot.

Starting at 10am ET today, Samsung.com will open up reservations for its next “Galaxy Smartphone” and “Galaxy Tablet” — otherwise known as the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy Tab S8. These reservations effectively hold your place in line for a pre-order for either device, with the bonus perk of $50 in Samsung credit after you purchase the device. That credit can be used toward accessories or devices such as the Galaxy Watch 4.

In the past, Samsung’s early reservations have also offered additional perks, including higher trade-in bonuses and more. We’ll update this article if Samsung offers any extra benefits with this year’s reservations, but the only thing the company has announced so far is the extra $50 credit.

Reservations will remain open until the new devices, the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series, go up for pre-order if past patterns hold up. Current rumors point toward pre-orders opening up sometime after next month’s launch event.

You can head to Samsung.com to hand in your “reservation” for the Galaxy S22 and/or Galaxy Tab S8.

Image: Gsmarena

Reports about Apple launching the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023 with a periscope cam are nothing new. However, the latest info, coming from analyst Jeff Pu, stated that Cupertino is testing prototypes and component samples of 5x telephoto lenses. A final decision on who will be the manufacturer is expected in May 2022.

When the components are approved, they will be included in the “high-end models of the 2023 iPhone lineup”, which should mean the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The likely maker of the lens will be Lante Optics, and expectations are 100 million units to be made just for Apple.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G design breaks cover in regulatory listings w/ specs in tow

Clearly, we could soon see the Galaxy A53 when it hits store shelves, but until then, we know some of the core specs and a practically confirmed design. Let’s start with the TENAA listings, which confirm that the Galaxy A53 will come with a 6.46-inch 2,400 x 1,080 pixel display. However, no refresh rate information has been shared, but we expect a 120Hz panel to match the previous generation.

Samsung is set to retain MicroSD card expansion with the Galaxy A53 coming with 128GB or 256GB internal storage. The TENAA listings suggest that there will be a model with 8GB of RAM, and the battery is jumping up to a 4,860mAh cell. There is also set to be a 15W charger included in the box.

The processor is not explicitly confirmed, but the regulator pages suggest it’s an octa-core chip that could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G. However, the reported Galaxy A53 specs from 91Mobiles suggest that we could see the Exynos 1200 processor.

At the rear, we’ll see a quad rear camera setup that will consist of a 64-megapixel main sensor, 32-megapixel secondary, with two more 5-megapixel sensors. The selfie camera is set to be rated at 12 megapixels.

Sadly, there is no mention of a 3.5mm headphone jack, which was showcased in the initial renders. It seems that wired audio is indeed dead on Samsung’s upcoming mid-ranger.

Intel Arc Alchemist flagship GPU could be a match for Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti

Image: Intel

Intel’s Arc Alchemist flagship graphics card could rival the performance of Nvidia’s RTX 3070 Ti, if a fresh leaked benchmark is anything to go by.

The SiSoftware benchmark, as spotted by prolific Twitter leaker Tum_Apisak (via VideoCardz), shows that the Intel desktop GPU scored 9,017 Mpix/s compared to 8,369 Mpix/s for the 3070 Ti, meaning that the former is almost 8% quicker. In individual compute tests, both cards win two categories apiece, so it’s a split decision when breaking things down in that manner (Team Blue won in the double-float and quad-float tests).

YouTube Music will soon work for supervised kid accounts enrolled with Family Link

Image: 9to5Google

In an email to Family Link parents today, Google previewed that kids will soon be able to access YouTube Music and more parts of the video site.

Before the shutdown in December of 2020, Google Play Music let kids under 13 have their own libraries. YouTube Music is only now getting a similar capability as part of the broader ability to let supervised child accounts graduate from YouTube Kids to the main YouTube app.

This supervised YouTube experience aimed at older kids and teens was first previewed in February of 2021, but the feature — which is still officially in beta — looks to now be more widely available.

Kids will be able to access YouTube Music for Android, iOS, and web “in the coming weeks.” These supervised accounts will also be able to access YouTube on smart TVs.

WhatsApp will soon let you move your messaging history from Android to iOS

Image: Android Police

The latest WhatsApp beta for iOS, 22.2.74, reveals code and imagery that suggests it will soon support importing chat history from Android phones. Previously, code in the WhatsApp Android beta had shown evidence of this same functionality. According to WABetaInfo, you’ll need to get the Move to iOS app to make the process work. In contrast to the cloud backup options that use Google Drive or iCloud, your data will likely be transferred locally via a cable or a private Wi-Fi connection.
