Oppo A54s images, specs and European pricing leak

Oppo A54s renders, key specs and European pricing leak
Image: Gizpie

Oppo released its A54 back in March and now it seems that the maker is looking to release an S-version dubbed A54s. Renders and key specs procured by GizPie detail the Oppo A54s deisgn, key specs and European pricing.

The A54s looks quite similar to Oppo’s A16 with a 6.52-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a waterdrop notch for the 8MP selfie cam. MediaTek’s Helio G35 chipset is said to be the SoC of choice paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The big change comes around the back apparently where the A54s is said to feature a 50MP main camera in place of the 13MP main shooter of the A54 and A16. The two auxiliary sensors for macro shots and depth data are expected to remain at 2MP.

A54s will boot Android 11 with ColorOS 11 on top and will come in Pearl Blue and Crystal Black colors. Retail in Europe for the 4/128GB trim is said to start at €219. It remains to be seen when the phone will launch.

Moto E30 leaks in renders, quite similar to Moto E40

Image: Roland Quandt

Yesterday Motorola India teased an upcoming launch for its Moto E40. It seems that another E-series device is on its way as Roland Quandt shared some renders of the Moto E30. These look quite similar to the ones we’ve seen for the E40 which may imply the two are the same device meant for different markets.

Moto E30 features a display with a punch hole cutout and substantial bottom bezel alongside a triple camera setup on the back with a 48MP main sensor. The back also features the same ridged design as on the E40 renders.

We can see the Moto dimple on the back which probably houses a fingerprint scanner while the top of the device does come with a headphone jack. We’ll be on the lookout for more details surrounding the E30 and update you accordingly.

As spotted by Basic Apple Guy, listings for the Apple Watch Series 7 have appeared on Amazon Canada. We now know the basic band and case pairings that Apple will be offering at other retailers both for the LTE and GPS models. Apple Watch Series 7 goes up for pre-order at 8 a.m. EST on Friday morning.

The product listings unfortunately don’t include pricing, but we do know which bands you’ll be able to choose from when purchasing an Apple Watch Series 7 from Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers.

Green aluminum models are paired with the new clover sport band, blue aluminum models are paired with the new abyss blue sport band, while the red aluminum models are paired with the refreshed red sport band. Samsung Galaxy S22 may be delayed with Galaxy S21 FE taking its place in January

Image: Samsung

After months past the point we expected to see it launch, we still don’t know the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE release date, but a new leak suggests it could come in January – and that the Samsung Galaxy S22 has been delayed.

We’ve heard plenty about the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, including several reports that it may have been canceled, so hearing it may come in January isn’t a total surprise. A new leak from SamMobile claims it will be a quiet launch, perhaps even over emailed press release instead of a bombastic event.

Separately, the SamMobile report claims the Samsung Galaxy S22 launch may have been delayed – though for how long is unclear. Typical flagship S-series phones arrive in January (the Samsung Galaxy S21 launched on January 14, 2021) after CES in the beginning of the month.

Perhaps the Samsung S21 FE will be announced during that slot, or even introduced at CES 2022, with the company waiting a few weeks to a month to launch the Samsung S22. But the latter is speculation even beyond what we’ve heard from this leak, which only (separately) stated the January S21 FE launch window and the uncertain delay of the S22.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold refresh said to be in the works with minor improvements

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold refresh said to be in the works with minor improvements
Image: Xiaomi

Xiaomi’s first foldable smartphone, the aptly named Mi Mix Fold, was released in the Chinese market back in April and has so far stayed exclusive to the maker’s own country. While we have no news about any Xiaomi foldable launching internationally just yet, today a new rumor from China claims the company is in fact working on a slight refresh of the original Mix Fold.

This won’t be a Mix Fold 2 per se, as it’s basically the same device as the first one, just with a few tweaks. One of those tweaks has to do with the screens, and their refresh rates – this improved version will have 90 Hz on the internal screen and 120 Hz on the external screen (compared to 60/90 Hz on the original).

Furthermore, an under-display camera will make an appearance, although the leakster didn’t mention under which screen. So we assume we’re talking about the internal, foldable display, which in the original Mix Fold had no selfie camera at all.

Next up, the new Mix Fold is apparently getting support for 120W fast charging (up from 67W), for its 5,000 mAh battery – which is interestingly 20 mAh smaller than that of its predecessor.

Those are all the changes, which is why we mentioned this would be a minor refresh and nothing huge. Still, all of these additions may help Xiaomi compete better with the coming onslaught of foldables from other Chinese companies (and Samsung too if it ever decides to sell the Mix Fold outside of China).

Intel finally reveals a real image of an Alder Lake CPU, leaving renders behind

Image: harukaze5719

After many leaks and renders, Intel has finally revealed the first official image of a 12th Gen Core processor on Twitter.

Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Client Computing Group Gregory M. Bryant posted a tweet of a factory engineer holding up two Alder Lake CPUs. There hasn’t been much change between this design and the first engineering sample leaked nearly a year ago. This latest design has apparently been shipped to partners, who have started the switch from ES3 (engineering sample 3) to Qualification Samples (QS) since September.

Some Intel Alder lake information has been previously revealed through a leaked roadmap which details the mobile chips that will follow these desktop chips. The S-Series chip shown in the image, however, has been teased by Intel itself repeatedly over the last year.  It’s just that we’re finally seeing it.

The 12th Gen Core series’ retail box was also leaked online, as CPUs hit the Chinese black market.

12th-generation Alder Lake processors will likely be announced on October 28 at its Innovation event. This date hasn’t been confirmed by Intel, but given that MSI has leaked the 12th-gen launch date through an AIO cooler upgrade kit, it’s pretty safe to assume we’ll see these processors very soon.

Windows 11 may hurt gaming performance on Ryzen chips, says AMD

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
Image: Windows Central

The Windows 11 launch continues to fade further and further away in the rearview mirror. And though some of the first wave of Windows 11’s best features are dedicated to gaming, it looks like that won’t be enough to counteract the fact that the operating system may also be causing some gaming issues of its own. Specifically with Ryzen chips (though other AMD W11-friendly chips are included; check AMD’s documentation).

AMD has a support page outlining the known issues it’s willing to discuss at the current juncture. Here are some key bullet points from the page:

  • Applications sensitive to memory subsystem access time may be impacted.
  • Expected performance impact of 3-5% in affected applications, 10-15% outliers possible in games commonly used for eSports.

“Games commonly used for eSports” is a bit vague, but you can imagine the variety. CS:GO, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six: Siege all fit that descriptor. And those aren’t the only applications affected by the issues.

  • Applications sensitive to the performance of one or a few CPU threads may exhibit reduced performance.
  • Performance impact may be more detectable in >8-core processors above 65W TDP.

Both AMD and Microsoft are on the case, according to the support page, and fixes for all these issues should be arriving by the end of October. However, exact dates for fixes have not been provided yet. In the event you’re on the fence about upgrading and care about maximizing your rig’s gaming performance, it may be best to hold off until these issues are resolved.

Valve’s Steam Deck teardown is fascinating – and scary

Valve has posted an official teardown video of the Steam Deck, and before it even starts the teardown, the company states that it doesn’t recommend anyone to take apart their own handheld console.

The Steam Deck is not designed to be user-upgradable either, which could disappoint PC hardware enthusiasts who were hoping to swap out certain components, such as the SSD storage, later on.

Twitter’s new prompt lets you know when a conversation might kill your vibe

Twitter Intense Conversation Prompt
Image: Twitter

Twitter’s latest move to help encourage better engagement on the app involves warning users against engaging with certain conversations.

The company announced the new feature for iOS and the best Android phones on Wednesday. The prompt will warn users when a certain conversation might lead to a heated or intense discussion.

When clicking on the prompt, it will pull up guidelines to help users navigate the conversation respectfully.

The feature was teased in late September along with several other features and initiatives that the platform is testing and rolling out.

Social media can be a rough place to navigate, and Twitter has been on a mission to help users Tweet and engage more. Keeping users away from heated conversations could be one way to encourage a safer space for users to feel more comfortable.

It’s unclear how Twitter determines when to show this prompt, but it notes that it may not always get it right.

The criteria we use to determine which conversations will show this prompt may change as we learn from this test.

We may consider the Tweet topic and the relationship between the Tweet author and replier.

Recently, Twitter launched Communities, which functions like Facebook Groups, allowing users to join in on topics they like, including space, crypto, skincare, and more.

These spaces should help to encourage more healthy engagement between users with similar interests, although for now, Communities are invite-only.
