The latest flagships in vivo’s X-series is expected to launch soon with the X80 series. We’re expecting three entries with a X80, an X80 Pro and an X80 Pro+ based on current rumors. The vanilla X80 has now appeared on the Google Play Console and is confirming its key specs and design.

X80 will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset and the listing shows 8GB RAM in tandem. The phone is also running Android 12 and has a 1080×2400 px resolution curved display. The panel is rumored to come in at 6.78-inches and will likely offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

The rest of the rumored spec sheet includes a 50MP main camera with a Sony IMX866 sensor alongside a 12MP 2x telephoto lens and a 12MP ultrawide snapper. The phone is also expected to boast a 4,500 mAh battery with 80W charging.

Google copies Samsung’s Smart Switch

Image: Google

Google has copied Samsung once again. It has silently launched a new way to transfer data from an iPhone to an Android device. The Switch To Android app competes with Samsung’s Smart Switch but falls short in terms of features and how much data you can transfer to your new Android device.

The new Switch To Android app is available on the App Store for iPhones, but you can’t find it if you just search for it. You have to follow this link to access the app and install it on your iPhone. It lets you transfer calendar events, contacts, photos, and videos from an iPhone to an Android device. It all works wirelessly once you scan a QR code, so you don’t have to worry about using a cable or an adapter.

The app falls short in terms of feature set, though. It can’t transfer messages, call logs, home screen wallpaper, and settings from an iPhone to an Android smartphone. In comparison, Samsung’s Smart Switch can transfer all that data and things like WhatsApp chat threads, apps (or similar ones on Play Store), and even device settings.

If Google wants to create a centralized system that lets users easily switch from iPhones to Android smartphones, it needs to do more and add more features to Android and its new iOS app.

vivo T1 Pro 5G coming next month, Geekbench listing confirms SD778G

vivo T1 Pro 5G incoming next month, appears on Geekbench with SD778G
Image: Geekbench

The vivo T1 5G is already selling in India, and rumors are it will get a Pro sibling very soon. Reports are the launch is scheduled for May and they appear credible as the vivo T1 Pro 5G just appeared on Geekbench. The vivo V2151 smartphone was benchmarked with a Snapdragon 778G chipset and will have an 8GB RAM option.

The chipset of the new vivo T phone is the same as the upcoming vivo iQOO Z6 Pro 5G, meaning there’s a good chance we’ll see another case of same phone sold under two brands. Not shocking, as it was the same deal with the non-Pro variants – the vivo T1 5G and the vivo iQOO Z6 are essentially the same, with the main difference being the user interface.

Oppo A57 5G unveiled with 90Hz HD+ LCD, Dimensity 800 and a 5,000mAh battery
Image: mediatek

The Oppo A57 5G arrives as a polished version of the A56 5G. There’s a new chipset, more RAM, an improved screen and a few other upgrades, but this is still an entry-level phone. An entry-level phone with 5G.

The new model is powered by the Dimensity 810, a 6 nm version of the 700 chip with slightly higher clock speeds. The base configuration now comes with 6 GB (up from 4 GB) and there is a new 8 GB option. Storage remains at 128 GB (UFS 2.2 for the 6 GB unit, UFS 2.1 for the 8 GB one), a microSD slot is available if you need more.

Another thing to note is that this phone comes with Android 12/Color OS 12.1 out of the box (up from Android 11). The system can add 5 GB of virtual RAM.

The display is improved as well – the 6.56” LCD now runs at 90Hz (up from 60Hz), however, the resolution is basically the same at 720 x 1,612 px. It may not be sharp, but at least the image will have a wide color gamut. The display offers 100% sRGB coverage in Natural mode and 100% DCI-P3 in Vivid mode. The brightness is unchanged, 480 nits typical.

Not much has changed in the camera department. The Oppo A57 5G offers a basic setup with a 13 MP camera on the back (f/2.2) with a 2MP depth sensor and a notched 8MP selfie camera (f/2.0). Video recording for both is capped at 1080p at 30 fps.

The battery capacity is 5,000 mAh. It could have used an upgrade from the basic 10W charging, but it didn’t get it. Charging is done over USB-C, the other wired port is the 3.5mm headphone jack. One upgrade over the previous model is stereo speakers.

Additional connectivity includes Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.2 with the high quality aptX HD and LDAC audio codecs and dual 5G. A secondary antenna on the side ensures a stable connection while you game (as your hands may cover the primary antenna). There’s no NFC, but mobile payment systems (WeChat, AliPay, etc.) are secured by the side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The retail package includes the phone, a cable and charger, a protective case and a few other basics.

The Oppo A57 5G is available for pre-order in China starting today, sales will begin tomorrow. Only the 8/128GB version is listed for now with a price of CNY 1,500 ($235/€215/₹18,000).

Windows 11 seems set to support third-party widgets soon

Windows 11 Widgets
Image: Windows Central

Microsoft appears to be making preparations to support third-party widgets on Windows 11. A screenshot of alleged code from the Widget manifest that mentions downloading new widgets through the Microsoft Store was recently shared by Twitter user FireCube.

“Widget manifest update shows more evidence of being able to download third party widgets and updates from the Microsoft Store,” stated the tweet.

We’ve known that support for third-party widgets was on the way to Windows 11 for quite some time. Our senior editor Zac Bowden discussed the feature in his piece covering what to expect from Surface and Windows in 2022.

“Microsoft is also expected to expand the Widgets panel with new features and support for third-party widgets,” said Bowden in December 2021. “I’m told some developers have already been briefed on how third-party widgets will work.”

Assuming plans have not changed, users will be able to download widgets through the Microsoft Store. Unpackaged apps from outside of the store should be able to have widgets as well.

The newly spotted code aligns with previous reports as well as separate leaks from earlier this year.

Image: 91Mobiles

Two unreleased Motorola phones leaked in new official images thanks to Evan Blass and 91mobiles. The Moto Edge 30 and Moto G 5G (2022) are two upcoming midrangers set to debut soon with enticing specs.

Motorola Edge 30’s design is clearly based on the Edge 30 Pro flagship that debuted earlier this year. It has the same centered punch-hole display upfront and a triple cam setup on the back. The display on the Edge 30 is said to come in at 6.5-inches and will be of the pOLED variety and it will still offer a 144Hz refresh rate just like the flagship Edge 30 Pro.

The main change will come in the chipset department where the vanilla Edge 30 will rely on the Snapdragon 778G+ paired with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage. The phone will also bring a 4,200 mAh battery and 33W charging. The camera setup on the back is expected to retain the dual 50MP shooters and 2MP depth helper from the Edge 30 Pro .

The second yet to be released phone is the Moto G 5G (2022). As the name suggests this is the successor to the Moto G 5G and brings improvements across the board. The phone is expected to arrive with a 6.53-inch LCD with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Image: XDA

OnePlus is gearing up to launch two new smartphones and a pair of TWS earbuds in India. The company started teasing the new products earlier this week and confirmed a launch event for April 28. Now ahead of the event, the company has shared more details about the products.

In a press release sent out earlier today, OnePlus confirmed it would unveil the OnePlus 10R and OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G at its upcoming event. The company has also revealed some key highlights of the new phones. The OnePlus 10R will be offered in two variants, with the base model supporting 80W SuperVOOC and the high-end model offering up to 150W fast charging, capable of fully charging the phone in just 17 minutes. It will be available in at least two colors: Green and Black. Rumors have it the phone will pack a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 50MP primary camera, and a 4,500mAh battery.

But ahead of the OnePlus 10R launch, the company plans to unveil the OnePlus Ace in China. As we previously reported, the OnePlus Ace is just a rebranded version of the OnePlus 10R, with both phones featuring similar designs and MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset. The OnePlus Ace will officially launch in China on April 21 and it will be offered in White and Black colors.

Circling back to the Indian launch, OnePlus has also shared some details about the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G, a cheaper variant of the existing Nord CE 2. OnePlus says the phone will pack a large 5,000mAh battery and support fast charging via a 33W SuperVOOC charger. Previous rumors suggested the phone would feature a similar design to the Nord CE2 and pack a 6.58-inch 120Hz LCD, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset, 6GB/8GB RAM, a 64MP + 2MP + 2MP rear camera setup, and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support.

In addition to new smartphones, OnePlus also plans to unveil new truly wireless earphones at the event. The company hasn’t confirmed the official branding, but rumors have it they will be called Nord Buds.

Reddit rolls out new search improvements, including a way to find comments

Image: Techcrunch

Reddit announced today that it’s rolling out the ability to search comments, alongside a few other search-related features. With the new comment search function, users no longer have to click on several comments to find threads when looking for a particular conversation. You can now search for comments directly via a new “comments” tab in the search bar.

Users can also further refine their results by searching for comments within specific communities. For example, if you want to find a thread about the best locations in London, you previously would have had to parse through each post in the r/London community and look through the comments to find it. Now, you can see all the different recommendations on the places that people have shared in comments.

Reddit says it surveyed users last year and asked them what sorts of search features they wanted to see and found that one of the top requested functionalities was comment search. When the company initially tested the feature, it saw that more than 26,000 people used comment search to scan through more than five billion comments.

“With this latest update, for the first time in sixteen years everything on Reddit is now searchable – users, posts, communities, and now comments – making Reddit one of the first platforms with this capability,” Reddit said in a blog post.
