The next Intel flagship CPU, the Core i9-13900K, may truly push clock speeds to the limit. A new rumor suggests that the CPU may offer up to 5.8GHz in turbo mode.

As we learn more about Intel Raptor Lake, we are slowly able to piece together the possible specifications of the CPU.

The 13th generation of Intel processors, dubbed Raptor Lake, is going to utilize the same socket as Alder Lake. However — and this won’t come as a surprise — it’s going to be a step up in every way possible. Even though the rumored release is still months away, Intel itself has already revealed a fair bit about the chip.

Raptor Lake will also rely on a hybrid core architecture, much like Alder Lake, and will offer a mix of efficiency and performance coves. Both 12th-gen and 13th-gen CPUs utilize Gracemont Atom cores, which are the efficiency variant, but Raptor Lake’s performance cores will be known as Raptor Cove (versus Alder Lake’s Golden Cove).

With Raptor Lake, the number of efficiency cores will go up from 8 to 16, which will increase the total core count up to 24 cores and 32 threads. In comparison, Alder Lake chips have much fewer cores, with the flagship Core i9-12900KS bringing 16 cores and 24 threads.

Oppo Reno8 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip

Image: Oppo

Oppo’s Reno series has been a bit of a fan favorite since its introduction back in 2019, owing its following largely to its design-first approach. Performance usually takes the back seat to unconventional design flourishes: The original Reno featured a weird pivot-hinge selfie camera while the latest model – the Reno7 Pro – features an honest-to-goodness notification light. But now, a new rumor points to possible upgrades in the performance department with the next generation.

The Oppo Reno8 will be the very first to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, info shared by leaker Digital Chat Station suggests (via Gizmochina). Qualcomm recently ditched its triple-digit numbering scheme, starting with its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, in favor of a simpler series-and-generation number format. That makes the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 the second mobile processor to arrive with the updated naming scheme. According to a previous leak, the chip is positioned under the 8 Gen 1 and will probably be an upper-mid-range offering with impressive performance – fast, but just a notch below flagship-level.

Oppo K10 5G will be the first phone with Dimensity 8000, TENAA reveals

Image: Tenaa

The Oppo K10 Pro was previously certificed by Chinese agency TENAA, and today it was followed by the Oppo K10 5G. The new phone, not to be confused with the Snapdragon 680-powered Oppo K10, will be the first device powered by a Dimensity 8000 chipset. It will also stick to the camera design Oppo implemented in few of its smartphones – two major circles for two of the cameras.

The phone is listed with a 6.59” LTPS LCD. The resolution is 1080p, and we can just make out the single punch hole in the top left corner for the 16MP selfie camera. Shooters on the back will have 64MP main sensor and 8MP for what is likely the ultrawide camera. A 2MP auxilary unit is hidden under the LED flash.

The chipset is not explicitly listed, but the 2.75GHz CPU clock matches that of the four Cortex-A75 cores in the Dimensity 8000. It also has four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0GHz. RAM will be either 8GB or 12GB, while storage will be 128GB or 256GB. The actual memory combinations should be revealed at the launch, which is evidently fast approaching.

The three-strong vivo X80 lineup is expected to arrive soon and two of the phones were spotted on BIS India’s database. The vivo X80 (V2144) and vivo X80 Pro+ (V2145) are now certified in India and their market launch should come soon enough. In the meantime, the X80 was also spotted in a Geekbench listing which confirmed the phone is powered by the Dimensity 9000 chipset.

The Geekbench listing also shows 12GB of RAM and Android 12 on the software side. The vivo X80 managed 937 single core points and 3,313 multi-core points on the tests. The new listings come just a day after the X80 appeared on the Google Play Console which revealed the phone’s curved FHD+ display and punch hole cutout as well as re-confirming the Dimensity 9000 chipset. The X80 Pro+ also ran a Geekbench test last week showcasing its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

OnePlus today confirmed additional details regarding its upcoming OnePlus 10R 5G set to launch in India later this month.

The OnePlus 10R 5G will feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset. This is a variant of the Dimensity 8100 that is exclusive to OnePlus. The company refused to comment on the differences between the MAX and non-MAX variant at the time of writing.

The standard Dimensity 8100 features an octa-core design, with 4x Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.75GHz and 4x Cortex-A55 economy cores clocked at 2.0GHz. It also features a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU and MediaTek 580 APU. OnePlus touts similar specifications in its spec sheet, which makes the difference all the more nebulous.

Apart from that, the company also confirmed that the OnePlus 10R 5G will support 150W SUPERVOOC fast charging for its 4500mAh battery, which is claimed to charge 0-100% in 17 minutes.

The OnePlus 10R 5G will be launching in India on April 28, alongside the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G.

TSMC on Track to Start 3nm Chip Production in Second Half of This Year

Image: Macrumors

Apple chipmaking partner TSMC says it will be ready to move its 3nm chip process to volume production in the second half of this year, putting it on track to supply Apple with the next-generation technology in 2023 (via DigiTimes).

“We expect the ramp of N3 to be driven by both HPC [high performance computing] and smartphone applications,” said Wei during an April 14 earnings conference call. “We continue to see a high level of customer engagement at N3 and expect more new tape-outs for N3 for the first year as compared with N5 and N7.”

TSMC is expected to initially process 30,000-35,000 wafers manufactured using 3nm process technology monthly, according to industry sources cited by DigiTimes.

A July 2021 report from Nikkei Asia claimed Apple will launch an iPad this year featuring a processor based on TSMC’s 3nm process. The report from DigiTimes today also claims the process will first be used by Apple in iPads, although it doesn’t say which model or when it would launch.

If true, it would be the second time in recent years that Apple has debuted new chip technology in an ‌iPad‌ before using it in its flagship smartphones. Apple first debuted the A14 Bionic chip, based on 5nm technology, in 2020’s fourth-generation iPad Air.
