Valve delays Steam Deck dock due to COVID-related shortages and closures

Image: The Verge

Valve shared yesterday that its official docking station made to pipe the Steam Deck’s visuals to a TV or monitor (and connect a couple of USB peripherals) has been delayed yet again. The dock missed its initial launch window of shipping alongside the first batch of Deck reservations in late February, and a mix of ongoing part shortages and COVID-related work stoppages has pushed its release further into the future. Valve didn’t share when it’s aiming to release the dock, though it says it’s “working on improving the situation.”

For the many who are still waiting on their Steam Deck reservations to arrive, Valve wants you to know that this dock delay will have no impact on console production. It says that these docks use different parts, and they’re made in different factories.

TCL’s Stylus 5G is another new budget phone with a pen

Image: TCL

Things looked grim for fans of budget stylus phones when LG dropped out of the mobile market last year, taking its Stylo devices with it. Just when it looked like Motorola was going to run the table with its Moto G Stylus phones, TCL has announced a new device with a built-in stylus: the aptly named TCL Stylus 5G. It’s available starting today, June 2nd, from T-Mobile for $258.

The Stylus 5G includes a 6.81-inch 1080p LCD, MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There’s a 4,000mAh battery — quite a bit smaller than the 5,000mAh capacity of Motorola’s stylus phones — plus a microSD slot for storage expansion and a headphone jack.

An image of the rear panel was shared by prolific leakster Digital Chat Station on Weibo along with the confirmation that Leica will put its logo on the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.

This will be the first time a phone gets to wear the iconic logo, outside of Leica’s own, pretty exclusive, Leitz 1 phone.

It’s taken almost two years, but Chromecast for Google TV is coming to India

Image: Android Authority

Google launched its Chromecast for Google TV streaming device back in September 2020, offering a cost-effective way to enjoy streaming content. It’s only been available in the US, Australia, and several European countries, but that’s set to change soon.

Google has confirmed (h/t: Flat Panels HD and 9to5Google) that the Chromecast for Google TV is coming to India. There’s no word on pricing and availability just yet though, but there’s certainly no shortage of budget-priced competitors. Google’s device will have to contend with streaming gadgets from the likes of Amazon, Realme, Xiaomi, and others.

Still, we thought the device stood out from the pack at the time of its release thanks to Google Assistant integration, a cheap price tag ($50 in the US), and the overhauled Google TV platform.

India isn’t the only market set to only receive the streaming gadget this year though. Google told Flat Panels HD that Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and Taiwan are also getting the device.

Customers in the aforementioned European markets can get their hands on the Chromecast for Google TV from June 21 for €70 (~$75). We’ve asked Google about Indian pricing and availability and will update the article when it gets back to us.

Oppo launched the A77 in May 2017 with 4G connectivity, and as expected, the company has announced its 5G version now with a more modern design and better specs.

The Oppo A77 5G is built around a 6.56″ HD+ LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits peak brightness. The screen covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a notch for the 8MP selfie camera, which is a downgrade from the 4G variant’s 16MP unit in terms of resolution.

Around the back, we get a rectangular camera island housing two LED flash modules joined by a couple of cameras – 48MP primary and 2MP depth. The former can even take 108MP pictures with some software trickery.

The smartphone’s rear panel flaunts the Oppo Glow design, which the company says makes it scratch and wear-resistant.

Rejecting data demands, ExpressVPN removes VPN servers in India

Image: Expressvpn

With a recent data law introduced in India requiring all VPN providers to store user information for at least five years, ExpressVPN has made the very straightforward decision to remove our Indian-based VPN servers.

Rest assured, our users will still be able to connect to VPN servers that will give them Indian IP addresses and allow them to access the internet as if they were located in India. These “virtual” India servers will instead be physically located in Singapore and the UK.

In terms of the user experience, there is minimal difference. For anyone wanting to connect to an Indian server, simply select the VPN server location “India (via Singapore)” or “India (via UK).”

Virtual server locations are not new to ExpressVPN; in fact, we have been operating our “India (via UK)” server location for several years. With virtual locations, the registered IP address matches the country you have chosen to connect to, while the server is physically located in another country. Virtual locations are used, where necessary, to provide faster, more reliable connections.
