Leaked Apple Watch Pro renders reveal an additional side button

As the CAD renders above reveal, the Pro wearable could potentially have an all-new side button. Its purpose remains vague for the time being. Though, one possible function could revolve around controlling an ongoing workout. The renders also give us a look at its edges and display. Unlike previous assumptions, it seems that Apple will still be going for rounded edges, rather than flat ones. The screen, though, appears to have a flat design with very thin bezels.

According to 91Mobiles, the Apple Watch Pro could come in a 49mm variant — making it significantly larger than existing Apple Watches. We also expect it to have a titanium build and a $900 to $1,000 price tag. Taking these aspects into consideration, this watch definitely won’t be appealing to the masses and average users. Instead, Apple could be targeting athletes with needs that go beyond the regular models’ offerings.

New Pixel 7 Pro leaked video makes users anticipate less at the launch

We always have mixed opinions regarding leaks of products ahead of their launch. One of which would generate curiosity amongst the enthusiasts. And the other would ruin the purpose that the manufacturer has slated or planned for the launch. And it appears Google knows this and started teasing its phones way (months) ahead of the launch — to keep both segments of people happy.

A case in point is the recent Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro smartphones — the next flagships from Google. They were first announced back in May at the Google I/O 2022. Again, it was only a sneak peek, yet we saw the hands-on leak a couple of months ago. And now we can see the device in all its glory with a new unboxing video of the Pixel 7 Pro on what appears to be a tech channel from Bangladesh.

The video from Bangladesh-based Gadgetfull BD tech channel shows the unboxing of a brand new Pixel 7 Pro a month before its official release. The video was spotted by Brandon Lee wherein he has shared the alleged unboxing video on his Twitter post.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra gets shown off in a new leak ahead of the launch

Last month, Motorola made news with multiple handset releases. The ones that grabbed the headlines, in particular, included the foldable Razr 2022 next to the Motorola X30 Pro smartphone — the world’s first featuring the 200MP primary camera sensor. While there have been rumors about an Ultra model in the Motorola Edge series, a new leak corroborates the device is set to launch soon.

Tipster Evan Blass has posted a new video that supposedly looks like a promotional video of the alleged Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. The video showcases the device’s design alongside its specifications.

Apple Watch SE 2 might not be the upgrade you’re hoping for – but that’s okay

Image: Future

If you’ve been holding out for an Apple Watch SE 2 then you might wonder why you bothered, because while there’s a good chance we’ll see the wearable at the iPhone 14 launch on September 7, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be much of an upgrade.

That’s according to Mark Gurman – a journalist and leaker with an excellent track record for Apple information. In his latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Gurman claims that Apple will unveil the Apple Watch SE 2 on September 7, but that it will be almost identical to the original Apple Watch SE.

The design will apparently be the same, with the main upgrade said to be a new chipset; moving from Apple’s own S5 to an S8 silicon. That might sound like quite a jump, but the S6 and S7 chipsets were basically identical to each other, so it’s more a shift of two generations, rather than three.

Still, it could lead to a significant power and efficiency boost, meaning it’s likely to be a worthwhile upgrade, although potentially not one that’s worth upgrading from the original Apple Watch SE for. Given that the new model will probably cost more too, there could even be an argument for buying the old model over this one.

Of course, that’s just speculation for now – there may yet be other improvements, or the chipset change might prove transformative. So it’s worth tuning in on September 7 and reading our assessments of the new wearable to find out.

Samsung is bringing Galaxy Z Fold 4’s multitasking features to its older foldables

Image: Android Police

Samsung’s latest foldables—the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4—run on Android 12L-based One UI 4.1.1. Among other things, they feature a Taskbar that aids multitasking and makes it easier to run multiple apps simultaneously. As rumors had indicated, the Korean giant has now announced that it is bringing One UI 4.1.1 to its previous-gen foldables.

In its announcement, Samsung says the One UI 4.1.1 update will first start rolling out for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 from September 5 and expand to more countries after that. The release will further make its way to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip, and the original Fold.

The Taskbar in One UI 4.1.1/Android 12L will directly let you open apps in multi-window mode—just drag a compatible app to the display’s edge. Dragging the app to the center of the screen will open it in a pop-up view. There are also new multitasking gestures to open a full-screen app in pop-up mode or trigger split-screen view.

Samsung is bringing Pattachitra tribal art to The Frame TV in India

Samsung is expanding the art collection for The Frame TV in India. The latter already hosts over 1,400 artworks, but Samsung announced today that Pattachitra art — an Indian tribal art form originating from Odisha — is coming to its lifestyle TV Art Store.

Pattachitra is an ancient form of painting on cloth and scrolls. This art form is denoted in the name, as “Patta” means “cloth,” and “chitra” stands for “picture.” These paintings are usually defined by rich details and the mythological themes they cover, as briefly showcased in the official tweet above.

Samsung phones could soon track your cough and snore through Digital Wellbeing

Image: Google

If you are someone who wishes to get out of your unhealthy smartphone usage routine, Google’s Digital Wellbeing feature is an excellent companion to have. It was introduced with Android 9 and has become an essential part of all Android phones and tablets. It can help restrict endless scrolling on TikTok and Instagram and track your digital health.

Now, folks at 9To5Google have discovered that Google is working on cough and snore detection, and it would be a part of the Digital Wellbeing package. In the latest beta update of the Digital Wellbeing app, it was discovered that Google would offer snore and cough tracking. It is intended to be a part of the Bedtime Mode section and will use the phone’s microphone to listen to your snoring or coughing.

Also, Digital Wellbeing will work in tandem with Google Clock’s sleep tracking. For the unaware, Google Clock’s sleep tracking feature can track how much time you have slept, using your phone’s gyroscope sensor and ambient light sensor to cross-check if your phone is motionless the whole night.

The redesigned Wear OS Play Store is a lot more colorful

Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Flip 4, and Watch 5 at its Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10. Google also made an appearance at the event and revealed that it would redesign the Wear OS Play Store and bring offline Maps navigation to the platform. Less than a month after the announcement, the big G has started rolling out the new Play Store design to Wear OS users.

The existing Wear OS Play Store design heavily relies on text, with limited use of icons and colors giving it a very drab look. Google is fixing this with the latest redesign. The first time you launch the new Play Store on your smartwatch, you will see the search icon inside a pill. The “Explore all” (via 9to5Google) section follows this, listing three apps along with their icon and rating.

This nanoparticle could be the key to a universal covid vaccine

Image: MIT Technology Review

Long before Alexander Cohen—or anyone else—had heard of the alpha, delta, or omicron variants of covid-19, he and his graduate school advisor Pamela Bjorkman were doing the research that might soon make it possible for a single vaccine to defeat the rapidly evolving virus—along with any other covid-19 variant that might arise in the future.

Before the pandemic, Cohen had been a PhD student in Bjorkman’s structural biology lab at the California Institute of Technology, attempting to engineer a new kind of “universal” flu vaccine. It was designed to train the body’s immune system to recognize portions of the influenza virus that the pathogen wouldn’t be able to change or disguise even as it evolved.

So in early 2020, when covid-19 hit and he was soon to receive his degree, Cohen, Bjorkman, and other members of the lab set to engineering a universal covid vaccine—one that would provide protection not just against all its variants, but also against future illnesses caused by entirely new types of coronaviruses.

“We’re definitely going to need something like this to fight covid-19 as new variants emerge,” Cohen says. “But beyond that, the potential for new global outbreaks and pandemics caused by other coronaviruses is clear. We need something that can prevent new covid-19-like scenarios from happening again. And we need it as soon as possible.”

Public health officials and scientists had long complained about a lack of funding—or a sense of urgency—to develop vaccines that would protect us against future pandemics. Prompted by covid-19, however, the US National Institutes of Health began doling out tens of millions of dollars to research groups pursuing universal coronavirus vaccines.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. In January, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, called the development of universal coronavirus vaccines an “urgent need,” noting that the emergence of covid-19 variants over the last two years hints at far larger long-term threats. He has since argued that even more resources are needed to continue the fight, and he has been publicly lobbying lawmakers to allocate them.
