Bose QuietComfort SE quietly launch with similar specs to the QC 45

The Bose QuietComfort 35 II were getting pretty long in the tooth when they were replaced last year by the QuietComfort 45. Now there is an SE model out, which seems to be a rebrand of the 45. This was a silent launch, so it almost flew under the radar, but they are already listed in several US stores (and should be coming to Europe soon as well).

The Bose QuietComfort SE promise 24 hour play time on a single charge (up from 20 hours on the 35 II and matching the 45) and need 2.5 hours to recharge. A quick 15 minute top-up is enough for a 3 hour stint. Owners of the 35 II will be pleased to hear that microUSB is nowhere to be seen, the SE use USB-C instead (just like the 45).

Amazon updates its base model Kindle with a new display, more storage, and USB-C

Image: Amazon

Amazon has just announced its latest Kindle for 2022. The company has debuted a replacement for its most affordable model, bringing plenty of new enhancements while keeping the price steady at $99.99. The new model will feature a high-resolution screen coming in at 300ppi, a USB-C charging port, and 16GB of storage.

The newly announced Kindle is the most affordable option in Amazon’s Kindle lineup. The new Kindle is a vast improvement over the previous generation that was released in 2019. The older model had a screen with a resolution of 167ppi and had half the storage coming in at 8GB. Perhaps the biggest change with the newest model is that it can charge using USB-C. With the new screen coming in at 300ppi, texts will be sharper, and with an adjustable front light, you can even read it in places where there might not be enough light. Although there is a front light consisting of four LEDs, the screen will not have temperature adjustment. Also, remember that this model is not water resistant, so you’ll want to keep it away from rain and other moist areas. The new model will come in two colors: black and denim.

Huawei P50 Pocket’s sequel is a watered-down mid-range folding phone

Image: Huawei

Huawei unveiled its P50 Pocket foldable flip phone earlier this year as a competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip series. It went on sale for an exorbitant price of over $1,400, and it doesn’t seem to have enjoyed a lot of success, even though Samsung barely has any market share in China. Now, Huawei is reportedly getting ready to announce the first sequel to the P50 Pocket, which happens to be priced lower than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Even though the original P50 Pocket hasn’t turned one year old, the rumor mill says that Huawei is ready to announce the “P50 Pocket New” soon. This time, Huawei’s strategy appears to revolve around undercutting Samsung’s successful Z Flip series by a couple of hundred dollars. As a result, the Huawei P50 Pocket New featuring 256GB of built-in storage will cost 4,999 Yuan ($721). The company also plans to sell a 512GB variant for $1,010.

Upcoming iQOO 11 will have Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, new E6 AMOLED display

Image: Iqoo 10 Pro

The iQOO 10 Pro arrived in late July with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and the vivo brand is already working on the successor. According to the leakster Digital Chat Station, the iQOO 11 Pro will have the SM8550 platform by Qualcomm – the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The San Diego company is planning to introduce its flagship SoC in mid-November, meaning there are about 3 months before the iQOO 11 series are official.

The source also claimed the new iQOO phone will have a new E6 AMOLED by Samsung with a single punch hole. The letter E stands for “energy efficiency” and while the panel manages to keep its brightness levels, power usage goes down, providing even more battery life.

The panel on the iQOO 11 Pro is said to have a “2K resolution”, which is how Chinese people wrongly refer to the QHD (1440p) resolution. It will also bring a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1440Hz PWM dimming to avoid any flicker.

Motorola Moto E22 images leak to reveal design and colors

Image: Motorola

Motorola unveiled the Edge 30 Fusion and Edge 30 Neo smartphones for the global market last week, and now a new smartphone is heading to the international scene. The Moto E22 appeared in leaked renders, revealing a dual-camera setup at the back and three color options.

The E22 will be sold in White, Light Blue, and Dark Blue and will be an extremely affordable device, with rumors suggesting a price of around $125.

The Moto E22 camera island looks a lot like the Edge 30 Neo with the two differently colored squares but the LED flash and the writing on the island confirm it is a new phone. The source also says the Moto logo on the back is for aesthetic purposes and the fingerprint scanner is on the side, mounted on the power key.

The images also reveal a waterdrop notch on the LCD for the selfie camera. The source said there is a 3.5 mm audio jack on top, while the bottom has the speaker grille, a microphone and the USB-C port. Sadly, there are no specs but the source claims there will be a Helio G37 chipset and a 5,000 mAh battery on the inside.

Google reportedly canceled its plans for a new Pixelbook

Image: Daniel Bader / Android Central

If you’re holding out for a new Pixelbook from Google, you may be disappointed to learn that the company has reportedly canceled the device.

It’s been years since the release of the latest Pixelbook, and now, according to The Verge, it looks like we shouldn’t expect another one next year. Apparently, Google has reportedly shuttered its plans for a new Pixelbook and the team behind the laptop.

Leaks in late 2021 from a Google Executive suggested the company would not be releasing a Pixelbook 2 in 2022, although leaving the possibility for a later release. However, the company also stated it “didn’t know” about the potential for another beyond that. Currently, it appears as though those old plans are now scrapped.

Android Central has reached out to Google for confirmation about the cancelation of both the Pixelbook and its development team but has not received word back in time for publication.

Google is looking to move some of its Pixel production to India

Image: Google

While a majority of production still occurs in China, recently, some larger technology companies have either explored moving production of products to other countries outside of China or splitting the production between several countries. There are a number of reasons for this shift, and whether a company is motivated by political or financial reasons, the shift is happening. Now, according to a new report, it looks like Google could be moving some of its Pixel production to India.

According to The Information, Google wants to move some of its smartphone production to India. The source states that the company will want to produce around 500,000 to 1 million Pixel devices annually. This amount would make up roughly 10 to 20 percent of Google’s total Pixel device shipments for the year. The company has spoken with regional manufacturers to test the waters but has yet to solidify a deal. This wouldn’t be Google’s first time moving production of its products outside of China. The company currently produces its Pixel devices using facilities in both China and Vietnam. Google could eventually add a third manufacturing partner in India sometime in the future.

At the heart of ONE’s technology is a battery management system that allows EVs to use two different cell chemistries. This is an innovation that has allowed the company to look to discarded materials, materials once considered unsuitable for EV mandates.

“Why don’t we split this into two problems instead of really one problem?” ONE CEO Mujib Aijaz

Manganese is one such metal. Today, ONE unveiled a manganese-rich, anode-free battery that could extend the range of an EV by an estimated 300 miles.

If the company can mass produce the cells, it could help ease the crisis in the EV supply chain because manganese is so abundant.
