Xiaomi Redmi K50 Pro+ to feature a periscope zoom and 108MP cameras

Xiaomi Redmi K50 Pro+ to feature a periscope zoom and 108MP cameras
Image: Gsmarena

Yes. it appears that Xiaomi is readying a Pro+ variant of the K50 once again and its core specs are seemingly revealed. We can expect the powerful and still unannounced Snapdragon 898 chipset powering up the handset while a 5,000 mAh battery would keep the lights on. Speaking of lights, the display is rumored to be curved with a centered punch-hole for the selfie camera and under-display fingerprint reader. Or at least that’s what we were able to gather from the broken Google translation of the Weibo post.

On the camera front, we should see a 108MP main camera coupled with a periscope telephoto shooter. If those specs are accurate, the Pro+ would be a full-fledged flagship and not just a flagship killer.

The Snapdragon 898 part leads us to believe the K50 Pro+ won’t be coming around for this year’s holiday season, though. Since Qualcomm usually announces its flagship SoCs towards the end of each year and the first devices running the company’s latest and greatest come out at the beginning of the next one. So it’s easy to assume that the Redmi K50 Pro+ will be out sometime at the beginning of 2022.

Massive Google Pixel 6 leak confirms everything we’ve been saying for a while

The Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro are the next set of flagships from Google. The Pixel line as a whole has prioritized the experience over just hardware, so everyone is indeed excited about Google finally bumping up the hardware in all the right ways. While Google will be officially launching the devices on October 19th, a massive new leak has corroborated practically everything we have revealed, along with giving us more information on the upcoming flagship duo.

In the past, we at XDA have brought you several exclusive pieces of information about the Pixel 6 series. We wrote an exclusive report about the likely specifications of the new Tensor chip on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. We also covered an exclusive Google Pixel 6 leak with information directly from the phone itself.  Now, UK-based retailer Carphone Warehouse has accidentally published full marketing pages of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, as spotted by @evleaks.

iPhone 13 ranks better than iPhone 12 Pro in DXOMark camera test

Image: Apple

Last month, DXOMark published the iPhone 13 Pro camera review, saying it ranked better than last year’s iPhone 12 Pro. Now, the company published the iPhone 13 camera review as well, and it’s also better than the 12 Pro.

DXOMark explains that the score includes a “Photo score of 138,” which is also one point better than the iPhone 12 Pro, and a “Video score of 117,” both of which help the iPhone 13’s case. On the other hand, it received a good Zoom score of only 55 points.

In the camera department, the iPhone 13 cannot offer a dedicated tele module but comes with several improvements over last year’s generation. The new primary module uses the same size sensor as last year’s top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max and there is now Dual-Pixel autofocus instead of PDAF. Light is channeled through an f/1.6-aperture lens and a sensor-shift stabilization system is keeping things steady. The primary module is accompanied by an ultra-wide camera that features the same tech specs as on the iPhone 12 generation.

As you can imagine, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini have the same camera modules and DXOMark was able to confirm this, so regardless of which iPhone you get, you’ll have the same camera experience.

DXOMark praises this phone’s camera saying it shoots generally with nice colors and white balance, pleasant skin tones in most light conditions, fast, accurate, and repeatable autofocus, and mostly accurate and smooth video autofocus.

Samsung is rolling out another Galaxy Watch 4 update that squashes bugs

Image: 9to5Google

The Wear OS-powered Galaxy Watch 4 has picked up a few updates since its debut earlier this year, and right now the device is picking up the CUJ2 update. What’s new? Not much…

Rolling out now in some regions including the United States, the R870XXU1CUJ2 update for the Galaxy Watch 4 carries with it a pretty small changelog.

Improved system stability and reliability

Samsung is seemingly claiming no major changes in this update, and that’s something we can see on the watch after applying the update. There are no noticeable visual differences, and given Samsung’s lack of information, it’s hard to say if there are any other improvements.

Notably, this CUJ2 update arrives on the Galaxy Watch 4 barely a week after the R870XXU1CUID update which started rolling out during the last few days of September, so that may hint that this update is only patching some minor bugs caused by that update.

Rockstar announces remastered ‘GTA’ trilogy for consoles, PC, and mobile

GTA The Trilogy
Image: Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has decided to make room for the new remasters by delisting older versions of the games. Starting the week of October 11th, any old versions and bundles featuring these titles will be removed from all digital stores. You will no longer be able to buy any of the original versions of those games from any console or PC digital store. That said, if you already purchased the games, you’ll still be able to download them and play them on the platform you bought them on.

We’ll have to wait for additional details about the remastered trilogy, but Rockstar also shared some exciting news for GTA V fans. Eight years after launch, GTA Online is still getting consistent updates, and that’s not stopping any time soon. Rockstar will celebrate the 20th anniversary of GTA 3 in GTA Online with events, commemorative clothing, and liveries this fall.

Sorry, Your Old Apple Watch Charger Isn’t Compatible With the Series 7’s Fast Charging System

Image: Apple

If you’ve got a few old Apple Watch chargers lying around and are thinking of getting in line for the new Series 7—which is available for order starting today—you better mark them with a tag or something before you bring your new watch home.

There is a reason for this, dear readers. See, one of the Series 7’s improvements this year is its faster charging time. According to Apple, the Series 7 can be charged 33% faster when compared to previous models, reaching an 80% charge in about 45 minutes. For people like me, who keep their Apple Watch around the house and only use it to go to the gym and burn baby burn, this is good news. There’s nothing worse than realizing your watch has low battery when you’re getting ready to head out.

However, fast charging will only be available for people who use Apple’s new USB-C magnetic fast charger with the Series 7, which is equipped with a new charging architecture. Don’t worry, this cable is included in the box, but since it looks just like the older cables, it’s important to be able to tell them apart to get the charging speeds you’re expecting.

Sony’s next PS VR helmet is VR’s best chance at going mainstream

VR is the future. There’s little point in arguing that fact. At some point, the technology will be so streamlined and integrated that it will be as common as smartphones. However, VR is currently struggling to find a foothold in the mainstream. It has been getting better over the past decade or so since it started being widely commercially available, but it has never managed to hit a wide audience. A lot of major companies are throwing their weight behind these headsets, too. Facebook, Valve, and Google are some of the biggest tech giants in the world, but even their headsets aren’t finding mass appeal.

Why, then, would Sony’s upcoming VR headset succeed where other tech heavyweights have failed? Sony’s original PlayStation VR was comparatively underpowered at the time, so what makes Sony VR’s last chance to catch the public’s eye, if you’ll pardon the pun? It has a few unique advantages in its favor, but I believe it will only work if the PS VR 2 has a few key features.

Some Facebook, Instagram and Messenger users reported Friday that the apps weren’t working for them, days after the social media giant experienced a massive outage. Facebook then fixed the problem, which the company said arose from a “configuration change” that impacted users globally.

“Sincere apologies to anyone who wasn’t able to access our products in the last couple of hours. We fixed the issue, and everything should be back to normal now,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement at around 2 p.m. PT.

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Workplace were affected by the issue but WhatsApp wasn’t, according to the company.

Facebook didn’t say how many people couldn’t access the apps on Friday, but thousands of users reported on Downdetector that they were experiencing problems using apps owned by the social network after 11:30 a.m. PT. Instagram users flocked to Twitter to complain about experiencing a second outage this week. In the United States, #instadown and #instagramdownagain were trending.

Someone Hacked a Navy Warship Facebook Account to Stream Age of Empires

USS Kidd
Image: ALAMY

Everything’s fine now, it’s resolved; the Navy has its Facebook page back. But sometime Sunday night, someone managed to break into the account of the USS Kidd, a US Navy destroyer, and used that access to, well, stream the real-time strategy game Age of Empires. A Navy spokesperson confirmed that someone gained “unauthorized access” to the Facebook page for the military-focused news site Task & Purpose on Wednesday. The streams were accompanied by brief messages like “hi guys” and “play game” and “ffffffffffff.” The likeliest culprit seems to be a family member of someone who has the keys to the USS Kidd’s social media account.
