Intel’s first Arc GPUs have finally arrived — here’s what you need to know

Intel’s first Arc GPUs have finally arrived — here’s what you need to know
Image: TNW

Intel is rolling out its Arc family of GPUs slowly, starting with entry-level units designed for mainstream laptops.

So far, Intel is dividing its GPUs into three tiers: Arc 3, Arc 5, and Arc 7. Arc 3 is aimed at thin-and-light laptops and is focused on providing a solid 1080p experience, while Arc 5 and Arc 7 target higher resolutions, framerates, and effects.

Only Arc 3 chips are available starting today, with devices coming from Samsung, Asus, Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer, and more. The first Arc 3 models are divided into Arc 350M and Arc 370M variants, with the latter being more powerful.

Laptops powered by Arc 5 and Arc 7 will begin to show up in the “early summer,” while desktop and workstation GPUs arrive “this summer.” Sighs.

Android may soon have built-in protection against AirTags stalking

Android may soon have built-in protection against AirTags stalking
Image: TNW

Apple‘s AirTags are really good at finding misplaced items, but that same ability makes them an alarmingly effective stalking tool in the wrong hands. And while the company has implemented numerous ways of alerting iOS users about nefarious AirTags use, Android users remain at risk unless they download and pro-actively check Apple’s Tracker Detect app (or third-party alternatives).

Google might now be working on a native solution to protect against stalking by AirTags and similar tracking devices. As spotted by 9to5Google, version 22.12.13 of Google Play Services includes code referencing ‘Unfamiliar device alerts’ and ‘Unfamiliar Tag Detected Notification.’

There are also specific strings referencing ‘Tile tag’ and ‘ATag,’ the latter presumably meaning AirTags. There’s also a third mention of a ‘Finder Tag,’ which could be an unreleased device or a stand-in for trackers in general.

Image: Iqoo

The iQOO Neo6 we’ve been hearing about since last December finally has a launch date – April 13. The Neo6 will be announced in China next month, but we don’t have confirmation on its global debut yet.

iQOO is promoting the Neo6 as the next-generation gaming flagship but hasn’t divulged its specs yet. However, thanks to Geekbench, we know it will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC at the helm with 12GB RAM.

The iQOO Neo6 will run Android 12 out of the box, likely with OriginOS on top, and rumors claim it will come with a 6.62″ 120Hz FullHD+ AMOLED screen, 4,700 mAh battery, and 80W wired charging.

We’ll likely learn more about the iQOO Neo6 as we inch closer to its April 13 unveiling.

Two new Realme phones certified in China with 5G and 5,000 mAh batteries

A pair of new Realme phones were spotted on China’s TENAA certification database. These are the RMX3372 and RMX3574 and both phones have their core specs and images populated in the listings.

RMX3372 brings a 6.62-inch AMOLED with FHD+ resolution and a 16MP selfie cam. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset with either 6/8 or 12 GB RAM and 128/256 or 512GB storage. The back houses a 64MP main cam alongside an 8MP ultrawide snapper and a 2MP macro shooter. We can also observe it packs a 5,000 mAh battery though charging speeds are not provided. Other features include a microSD card slot and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

RMX3574 is expected to be a new member of Realme’s Q-series in China and will bring a 6.58-inch FHD+ display and an 8MP selfie cam. The phone will be powered by an unnamed 5G chipset with a 2.4GHz main core. It gets 4 or 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage which is expandable. The rear cameras include a 13MP main shooter and a 2MP helper. The phone will bring a side-mounted fingerprint scanner while its battery is listed at 5,000 mAh.

Kuo: iPhones 14 to miss on under-display fingerprint sensor, periscope camera

Kuo: Apple iPhones to miss on under-display Touch ID in the next three years
Image: Gsmarena

Ming-Chi Kuo revealed in his latest investor note that the Apple iPhones launched this year will miss out on periscope cameras and the under-display Touch ID. The analyst predicted that the long zoom lens might arrive next year 2023, while the fingerprint scanner is not making it until 2025.

We are already stepping into April, meaning the new iPhone launch is about five and a half months away. Since we are not getting a UD sensor or a periscope camera, what are we getting? Well, the iPhone 14 is coming with two punch holes, an improved main camera sensor, a thicker body and the obligatory new chipset.

However, Kuo previously stated the iPhone 14 Pro duo might be the only one in the 2022 flagship family to have the next-gen A16 Bionic chipset, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max might stick with the A15.

The non-Pro models are also expected to not have ProMotion displays, which is the fancy name Apple puts on all screens with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The reason is the manufacturer BOE cannot match Cupertino’s demands for panels and the iPhone company decided to scale down the orders.

Image: Mediatek

We’ve seen leaked specs for the upcoming vivo X series phones before, but we still don’t have a complete picture. Digital Chat Station provides another piece of the puzzle, focusing on the vivo X80.

The phone will be powered by the Dimensity 9000, rather than the 8000 as some earlier leaks suggested. The chipset will be cooled by a 4,000 mm² vacuum chamber. Last month we saw an X80 with the Dimensity 9000 top the AnTuTu and Geekbench charts, this is definitely MediaTek’s best chip yet.

According to a previous leak, the vivo X80 Pro will also use the Dimensity 9000, while the Pro+ model will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 instead. The X80 and X80 Pro will be differentiated in other ways.

Dell Precision 5470 Puts Peak Workstation Performance in Smallest Possible Package

Dell introduces the Precision 5470, its most powerful 14-inch workstation
Image: Dell

Dell unveiled its Precision 5470 laptop Thursday, which the PC maker claims is the world’s smallest, thinnest and most powerful 14-inch workstation. It’s also the first laptop built around a 12th-gen Intel Core H-series processor and is designed for creators, engineers and specialty professionals.

Available in April with pricing coming soon, the 5470 can be configured with up to 4TB of storage, up to 64GB of DDR5 memory and up to an Nvidia RTX A1000 graphics chip. A new cooling system had to be developed by Dell engineers to optimize system performance, Dell said in its announcement.

On the Precision 5470, Dell will also introduce the latest version of its Optimizer software that uses AI to learn your work patterns and the most-used software to automatically adjust performance and battery based on your usage habits. New presence-detection features improve privacy by locking the laptop when you walk away and unlocking it when you return. It can also dim the display when you look away or someone approaches from behind you. It can also simultaneously connect to multiple networks — wired or wireless — so you never drop a connection as you move around the office.

The Precision 5470 will be joined in April by several new Latitude business laptops including two other record-setting models for Dell. The Latitude 7330 Ultralight is the world’s smallest and lightest 13.3-inch premium commercial 16:9 laptop. Then there’s the Latitude 9430 laptop or two-in-one that’s the world’s smallest 14-inch 16:10 business PC.

Dell also announced it will update other Latitude 7000- and 5000-series models with 12th-gen Intel Core processors and introduce a new Latitude 3300, which is a sub-$1,000 13-inch model available in a laptop or two-in-one design. All of these models will also feature Dell’s Optimizer software.

Supposed Pixel 6a retail box confirms previous design leaks

pixel 6a retail box
Image: Techxine

Images of a supposed Pixel 6a retail box appear to confirm the previously leaked design renders for the upcoming Google mid-ranger.

Of course, thanks to digging we already know a fair amount about what the Pixel 6a will offer when it arrives at some point in the next few months. Although this solo image of the retail box emblazoned with “Pixel 6a” and the Google logo has come from lesser-known tech blog Techxine. This image showcases what appears to be a plain black model of the device.

There are no obvious areas to indicate that this image has been tampered with, but given the nature of pre-release leaks and the source in question, it can be hard to ascertain fact from fiction. In this instance, one major benefit is that the packaging bears striking resemblance to previously leaked renders with some important details intact.

The packaging looks almost identical to the retail packaging used for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but upon closer inspection, you can see a very faint circular camera outline that frames the dual-lens setup within the camera bar.
