Galaxy S22’s Exynos 2200 chip unveiled: Console gaming coming to smartphones?

Samsung unveils a new Exynos System-on-Chip (SoC) every year before the Galaxy S launch, as that chip will power versions of the new flagship. The Galaxy S22 Exynos 2200 SoC is finally here, after a mysterious delay that prompted speculation that Samsung might have canceled the processor. And while the Exynos 2200 is supposed to give the Galaxy S22 a feature not available on other smartphones, these unexplained events will make us question the Exynos 2200’s viability. The Exynos 2200 is the chip we’ve waited for years for Samsung to make, featuring a GPU with AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture.

This brings console-grade features like ray tracing support to smartphones like the Galaxy S22 series. But, strangely enough, Samsung makes no mention of the Exynos 2200 power and efficiency gains compared with the previous Galaxy S SoC.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11 series, which is currently limited to China, will soon make its global debut. The Chinese smartphone maker today confirmed on Twitter that the global variants of the Redmi Note 11 series phones will debut at an online launch event on January 26.

Sadly, no other details have been confirmed by Xiaomi yet. As we’ve seen in the past, the global variants of the Redmi Note 11 series devices may not be identical to their Chinese counterparts. What also remains unclear is if all three phones will be making their way to global markets.

Garmin unveils long-awaited Fenix 7, plus luxury Epix smartwatch

Image: Future

After months of speculation, Garmin has unveiled a new set of premium watches: the Fenix 7 series for serious sports training, and the luxury Epix for everyday wear.

The Garmin Fenix 7 lineup includes three sizes (Fenix 7S, Fenix 7, and Fenix 7X), all of which are available in standard, solar, and solar sapphire editions. All of these have touchscreens in addition to the five physical buttons of previous Fenix watches, though this locks automatically during activity tracking to prevent accidents.

The Fenix 7 is aimed squarely at serious athletes aiming to improve their performance whether that’s in running, cycling, golf, swimming, or any of the myriad other sports supported. The big difference is that its advanced training tools are now more accessible, and it’s easier to use the watch together with the Garmin Connect app to create and follow a personal training plan that adapts along the way.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G gets certified with 15W charger

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G gets certified with 15W charger

The Galaxy A5x series model du jour has consistently been Samsung’s best selling device year after year, and we have no reason to doubt the situation being similar in 2022 with the upcoming Galaxy A53 5G. We’ve already seen this phone in some speculative renders, and a prototype was spotted in a benchmark database revealing some of its specs.

Now, it’s been certified by 3C, alongside its charger – a 15W unit. Rather disappointingly, that means that Samsung’s best selling device won’t be getting a properly fast charging experience out of the box in 2022. Maybe next year. Hopefully next year, as basically all of its competitors do ship with faster chargers.

AMD RX 6500 XT pricing looks like seriously bad news for a ‘budget’ GPU

Image: Gigabyte

AMD’s RX 6500 XT, the budget GPU revealed at CES 2022 alongside the RX 6400, is due to hit shelves tomorrow, but prices have already popped up in Europe – and the news isn’t good.

In fact, the RX 6500 XT is starting to look like a not-remotely-budget graphics card, with pricing hitting double the recommended level in France, which is seriously disappointing.

French retailers have slapped price tags of between €350 (around $400, £290, AU$555) and almost €380 (around $430, £320, AU$600) on 6500 XT cards from Gigabyte, which is steeper than even the rumor mill’s previous gloomy predictions.

It was thought the 6500 XT would command a price of €300 (around $340, £250, AU$475) going by past leaks from France, and remember that Asus in Germany recently confirmed a rumored asking price of €300 (for its base model), as VideoCardz, which spotted all this, reminds us.

So, the plain truth is that even those price levels, which were already considerably inflated from the expectations of a graphics card that AMD unveiled in the US with an MSRP of $199 (around £145, AU$275), turned out to be underestimating the amount we would be overcharged for the privilege of buying one of these GPUs (at least in Europe, anyway).

The chief executives of major U.S. passenger and cargo carriers on Monday warned of an impending “catastrophic” aviation crisis in less than 36 hours, when AT&T and Verizon are set to deploy new 5G service.

The airlines warned the new C-Band 5G service set to begin on Wednesday could render a significant number of widebody aircraft unusable, “could potentially strand tens of thousands of Americans overseas” and cause “chaos” for U.S. flights.

“Unless our major hubs are cleared to fly, the vast majority of the traveling and shipping public will essentially be grounded,” wrote the chief executives of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines , Southwest Airlines and others in a letter first reported by Reuters.
