Bluetooth certification of Motorola Edge 30 Pro reveals model number shared with Edge X30

Bluetooth certification confirms the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is a rebranded Edge X30

Motorola unveiled the Edge X30 in China in December, which is expected to debut globally on February 24 as the Edge 30 Pro. While Motorola is yet to confirm that it will introduce the Edge 30 Pro on February 24, Bluetooth SIG just confirmed that the Edge 30 Pro is a rebadged Edge X30 after all.

The Motorola Edge 30 Pro (XT2201-1) has been certified by Bluetooth SIG, and it’s listed on the authority’s website alongside the Edge X30 (XT2201-2), confirming Edge 30 Pro is a version of the Edge X30 for international markets.

The listing doesn’t include the Edge 30 Pro’s specs, but since it’s a rebranded Edge X30, we know what to expect from it. The smartphone will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, Android 12, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, and a 6.7″ 144Hz FullHD+ OLED screen.

TAG Heuer’s new smartwatch is ready for Wear OS 3, but for a steep price

TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Watch Face

TAG Heuer has its own software and companion app to enable fitness tracking, including golfing, swimming, and even guided workouts on the watch display. The Connected Calibre E4 has built-in GPS and an altimeter to measure your altitude for outdoorsy types.

Powering everything is the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+, the same chipset found in Fossil Group’s smartwatches like the new Skagen Falster Gen 6. This should provide snappy performance, and the watch will be ready for Wear OS 3 when it launches later this year, which is a relief given the financial investment.

As for the price, TAG Heuer is asking for a staggering $1800 for its cheapest model, and it goes up from there. It’s not too surprising given the brand, but it’s bound to give even the most die-hard Wear OS fans sticker shock.

vivo iQOO 9 global launch date set for February 23

vivo iQOO 9 global launch date set for February 23

The iQOO 9 series is expected to grace global markets soon, and we get a specific date to mark on our calendars. The vivo brand is bringing the BMW M Motorsport-branded flagships two weeks from now, on February 23.

The line-up is dubbed “India’s most advanced flagship” on Amazon, but reports are we are going to see not only the vanilla iQOO 9 and iQOO 9 Pro, but a third phone, called iQOO 9 SE as well. It is most likely to be an affordable alternative to the speed beasts with a toned-down chipset.

These phones will be first to have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in India, as per open sale start date, the brand stated on its social media channels. It is lining up more teasers in the days leading to the launch, and we know iQOO will talk about the speed of the phones, their gaming abilities, as well as “superfast vault-like security” and “delightful viewing experience”.

With the phones already official in China and their specs known the big question the announcement needs to answer is how much will the iQOO 9 phones will cost.

Intel Arc GPUs could be delayed – but might be big trouble for Nvidia when they arrive

Image: Intel

If you were hoping to see Intel’s Arc Alchemist graphics cards launch in early 2022, that hope seems to be rapidly fading going by new rumors, which are now suggesting that it’ll be Q2 before we see these products (and higher-end desktop GPUs may not roll into town until later in the quarter).

This comes from Moore’s Law is Dead, a renowned YouTube leaker who has been tapping his trusted Intel sources – he underlines that these are people he’s spoken to in the past who have provided accurate leaks. In short, he found a range of opinions on when Intel’s Alchemist launch timeframe might happen, but all broadly agree that Intel won’t make the cut for Q1.

One theory from an anonymous source is that all Alchemist cards, both laptop and desktop GPUs, have been pushed out to Q2, so we won’t see any actual product released until April at the earliest – but there could be a paper launch in March, and we might see laptop cards arrive first in April. The latter mobile GPUs would be low-end models.

Xiaomi Pledges ‘War of Life and Death’ Against Apple to Become World’s Biggest Smartphone Brand

Xiaomi intends to step up its challenge to Apple, the company’s founder announced this week (via South China Morning Post).
Xiaomi founder and chief executive Lei Jun said on Chinese social media platform Weibo that the company will specifically focus on the high-end segment of the global smartphone market in an effort to directly rival Apple, attempting to fill the void left by Huawei. Huawei was previously China’s largest smartphone vendor before being forced to pull out of the U.S. market. Lei explained that Xiaomi seeks to become the world’s largest smartphone vendor within three years.

“[We aim to] fully benchmark against Apple in [terms of] product and experience, and become China’s biggest high-end brand in the next three years,” Lei added. He went on to describe competition with Apple in the high-end smartphone segment as “a war of life and death” that Xiaomi must overcome.

Android 13 Developer Preview 1 hands-on: top new features

It seems that Android 12L is set to roll out in the shadow of Android 13, as Developer Preview 1 is already here with a brand new set of features to explore.

Anyone expecting a huge overhaul need not apply. For starters, as is customary, the first few preview builds are aimed exclusively at developers. That means most of the major changes are found under the hood. Plus, the Android 12 and Material You overhaul provided such a massive change that we’re expecting Android 13 to simply renovate rather than reinvent this year. This also means that Android 13 at this early stage includes a number of things we’ve already seen in 12L.

Here’s Apple’s Latest Plan to Prevent AirTag Stalking

Image: Caitlin McGarry/Gizmodo

Furthermore, Apple listed several updates coming to AirTags to better inform customers of the purposes of AirTags and the risks of misusing them. Once the update is installed, users setting up their AirTag for the first time will see a message warning them that tracking is illegal and that law enforcement can request identifying information about the AirTag owner.

An update will also remove the vague terminology “Unknown Accessory Detected.” Now when an AirTag, a pair of third-gen AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or a third-party Find My network accessory that has been separated from its owner are near you, you’ll receive an alert on your iPhone about the device. The “Unknown Accessory Detected” alert will still appear in some instances, according to Apple, but “only if a set of AirPods or a Find My network accessory is detected near you, not an AirTag,” the company said. “These could be borrowed AirPods, or AirPods inadvertently left behind by a friend or family member.”

Intel’s 13th-Gen Core i9 flagship teases us with leaked benchmark

Image: Intel / Balint Benke

We’re getting another glimpse of Intel’s next-gen Raptor Lake processors, following the discovery of test results for the incoming Intel Core i9-13900K flagship CPU within the Ashes of The Singularity benchmark.

Previous leaks have already indicated that this new flagship processor will feature up to 32 threads, something that has now been further reinforced by the Ashes of The Singularity benchmark results that lists the CPU with 32 logical cores.

We can’t completely take this as gospel, as stated by WCCFTech in its own report, as that particular benchmark isn’t able to differentiate between physical and logical cores within hybrid processors.

There is also the chance that this could be subject to change, as with any engineering samples that appear in the wild months prior to a full release. As it stands, we’re not expecting the official launch of the Raptor Lake series until around Q3 2022, which gives Intel plenty of time to make any adjustments.

Earth-like planet spotted orbiting Sun’s closest star

Astronomers have discovered a third planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, the star closest to the Sun. Dubbed Proxima Centauri d, the newly spotted world is probably a bit smaller than Earth, and well within the habitable zone of its host star — meaning that it could have oceans of liquid water that can potentially harbour life.

“It’s showing that the nearest star probably has a very rich planetary system,” says Guillem Anglada-Escudé, an astronomer at the Institute for Space Sciences in Barcelona, Spain, who led the team that in 2016 discovered the first planet to be seen orbiting Proxima Centauri.
