Image: Gsmarena

Nokia’s latest feature phones are a blast from the past with some modern twists. There’s the re-imagined Nokia 8210 4G which introduces 4G to 1999’s Nokia 8210 as well as the Nokia 2660 Flip which offers a familiar experience and large tactile buttons. Nokia is also honoring the XpressMusic line with the Nokia 5710 XpressAudio – a candybar handset with built-in wireless earbuds.

Nokia 5710 XpressAudio is the more exciting offering out of the bunch thanks to its built-in wireless earbuds. The back of the phone features a sliding mechanism that houses the buds and charges them while not in use. You can use the buds to listen to music stored on the device (up to 32GB storage via the microSD slot) or FM Radio and you can also connect them to any other device like a smartphone or tablet. The phone also has a headphone jack if you prefer that route.

AMD has bad news for anyone worried about utility bills with 700W GPU predictions

Image: Future

AMD has floated a broad prediction that graphics cards could reach power usage levels of 700W as we head towards 2025.

Specifically, this comes from a recent interview with an AMD exec conducted by VentureBeat, on the broad topic of AMD’s big push for energy efficiency, and its fresh goal of getting 30 times better power-efficiency by 2025 for high-performance computing (HPC), after having achieved the previous aim of 20 times by 2020.

During that lengthy chat, AMD’s senior VP, corporate fellow and product technology architect, Sam Naffziger, also touched on the firm’s secret weapon against Nvidia – namely chiplets for GPUs – and the subject of the rising power demands of graphics cards.

Motorola Edge 30 Ultra’s rumored price is only slightly higher than the 30 Pro

Image: Weibo

Motorola’s 2022 camera flagship is set to be unveiled in China later this month, the phone will use Samsung’s new 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor. It initially leaked with its code name, “Frontier”, but we now know that the phone will probably be marketed as the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.

Leakster Nils Ahrensmeier also claims to know how much it will cost – €900 for a 12/256GB unit. That’s just €100 more than an Edge 30 Pro (with the same 12/256GB memory configuration). Of course, the Pro has a fairly basic 50MP 1/1.55” main camera, no match for the HP1, which has a 1/1.22” optical format.

Google brings Play Games PC beta to two more countries

Image: Google

In March, the Google Play Games on PC beta started rolling out as the official way to experience Android titles on Windows, and it’s now coming to Australia and Thailand.

This is the first expansion of the beta and appears on the Google support article detailing the waitlist. The “Region availability” list originally just included Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan. Thailand and Australia were recently added, though those two countries are not yet listed on the official Play Games for PC landing page.

We’ve yet to spot any reports of people in those two countries receiving invites, but users in Australia can now “Join the waitlist” instead of being told that the “beta isn’t available in your region yet.”

Google is clearly sticking to Asia-Pacific markets and previously said it “will expand to other regions later in 2022 and beyond.”

6G is viewed as a “trillion dollar opportunity” for the mobile industry, while technical leadership is increasingly a political priority for many governments around the world.

WhatsApp tests a redesigned Mac client with native Apple silicon support

Image: XDA

WhatsApp is one of the most commonly used instant messaging (IM) apps out there. Billions of people actively depend on this Meta-owned platform to reach their friends, family, and businesses. Despite its popularity and relatively unlimited resources, though, WhatsApp’s development is slow when compared to competing IM apps — such as Telegram. The latter releases packed feature updates almost monthly, while the former rarely brings anything new to the table. Though, for those who use WhatsApp Desktop on a Mac, there are some good news for you. The company is now beta testing an overhauled macOS client, built with native Apple silicon support.

The video game prescribed by doctors to treat ADHD

Image: Kelcey Sihanourath says a computer game has helped her son Owain with his ADHD

While many parents worry that their children spend too much time playing computer games, Kelcey Sihanourath is pleased to see her son Owain pick up his tablet.

Now aged 13, he was diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) in pre-school.

Since then, the family, who live in the US city of Savannah, Georgia, have taken Owain to see occupational therapists to help him better cope with everyday life tasks.

They also tried the medication route, but had to stop after the prescribed drugs exacerbated the boy’s regular migraines, and made him sick.

With ADHD continuing to affect Owain’s school performance over the years, Kelcey says she was “hoping for something more, for any other option”.

“I could see him struggling to understand why he was not able to focus, and the frustration he had when he tried so hard and would still get distracted,” she says. “It broke my heart, but I felt trapped and completely useless.”

Help came in the end from what initially seems very incongruous – a computer game called EndeavorRx.
