According to the latest rumors from China, Realme is busy working on yet another tablet, following the Realme Pad and Realme Pad Mini. This new slate will allegedly be the highest-end of the bunch, as it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset.

Not just that, but it’s said to have a high-resolution QHD+ LCD with 120 Hz refresh rate, and an 8,360 mAh battery. Realme VP Xu Qi reportedly called the tablet the king of its price range – that’s quite the teaser, but of course he didn’t go so far as to reveal said price, instead further teasing that it’s going to be the cheapest tablet with the SD870 at the helm.

The tablet will allegedly be made official before the end of this month for the Chinese market, alongside an upcoming Naruto special edition of the GT Neo3 150W. If all of this pans out, then we’re hoping the new tablet won’t stay confined to China for long.

iQOO Z5 (V2188A) shows up on TENAA – a different Z5 for China

iQOO Z5 (V2188A) shows up on TENAA - a different Z5 for China
Image: Iqoo

An unannounced iQOO with the model name V2188A was briefly up on China’s TENAA certification site and has seemingly been pulled down since.

We were able to get a good look and saw the specs – the V2188A has a 5,880mAh battery, which is close enough to call 6,000mAh, 44W charging, a 6.58-inch display, and the dimensions of 163.87 x 75.33 x 9.21mm with a weight of 203g.

This is likely the iQOO Z5 with a 6,000mAh battery that’s reportedly coming to China.

What’s weird is that China already has a vivo an iQOO Z5 on sale but that phone has a 5,000mAh battery with 44W charging and a 6.67-inch IPS LCD of 120Hz refresh rate. It also relies on a Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset.

Meanwhile, this rumored, TENAA-related iQOO Z5 has a 6.58-inch 120Hz display and could launch with a different chipset, possibly a Dimensity 1300.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 surfaces on Geekbench with alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 Geekbench listing
Image: Geekbench

As we get closer to the supposed launch of Samsung’s next generation of foldables more details about the Galaxy Z Flip4 begin to emerge. The latest ones involve the phone’s chipset and battery capacity which both surfaced in two new listings. The first is a Geekbench listing for the Samsung SM-F721U believed to be Z Flip4 powered by the yet to be announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset.

The listing reveals the chipset bears the “Taro” codename and features a maximum clock speed of 3.19Ghz which should be for the Cortex-X2 CPU performance core. We can also see an additional trio of cores clocked at 2.75Ghz – presumably of the Cortex-A710 variety and four power-efficient Cortex-A510 units running at 1.8GHz. The Z Flip4 in the listing is also equipped with 8GB RAM and boots Android 12. It managed 1,277 single-core points and 3,642 points on the multi-core test.

In related news, the Z Flip4 wound up on the 3C database revealing its total rated battery capacity of 3,595mAh. The phone will pack dual battery cells with 2,555mAh (EB-BF723ABY part number) and 1,040mAh (EB-BF724ABY) rated capacities respectively.

It remains to be seen what the typical battery capacity rating come out to. Regardless of the actual mAh value, a larger battery would be a much welcome addition as the Z Flip3 had pretty lack-lusted endurance.

Revamped Google TV app with new ‘Highlights’ feed is now rolling out widely

New revamped Google TV app interface
Image: XDA

The Google TV app was revamped earlier this year with Material You tweaks and a new ‘Highlights’ tab. This new tab essentially showcases YouTube videos, news, reviews, and other articles related to the movies and TV shows you’re interested in. The revamped ‘Highlights’ feed is now rolling out widely with the latest Google TV update, but the update sadly doesn’t include all the Material You design changes.

The redesigned app adds a bunch of new tabs at the bottom to make it easier for you to find what you need. The “Highlights” tab, as we mentioned earlier, is the place to be if you want additional information or content related to the movies and TV shows that you’re interested in. You’ll also see a “Share” button to, well, share that content across platforms, and a stacked cards button to load “Related highlights”. You’ll also be able to like or dislike the content that you see in order to tune the feed better. This presumably works similar to how you’d tune Google’s “Discover” feed to see relevant content.

Motorola Moto G42 renders and certifications surface

Image Motorola

A new Motorola phone is on the horizon – model number XT2233-2, also known under the ‘Hawaii+’ code name. This will arrive on the market as the Motorola Moto G42, a sequel to the G41 from last year and a cheaper alternative to the G52.

Actually, the full code name of this device is ‘HawaiiPlusOLED22’. Having an OLED display is not surprising, though, given that both the Moto G41 and G52 have one as well. Unfortunately, that’s almost everything we know about the phone specs-wise.

One the plus side, there are leaked images that we can look at, thanks to leakster Abhishek Yadav. Nothing unexpected here, the design fits with the rest of Motorola’s 2022 offerings.

Apple Chip Supplier TSMC Looking to Build Plant in Singapore to Tackle Shortages

Image: Macrumors

Apple chip supplier TSMC is exploring the potential of building a new factory in Singapore to help address the global chip shortage, the Wall Street Journal reports.
TSMC is Apple’s sole chip supplier and is responsible for fabricating all of the company’s custom silicon chips, such as the A15 Bionic and the M1. While Apple’s chip orders have been prioritized over many other companies, limiting the impact of shortages on Apple customers, TSMC has still suffered from global supply chain issues as the world’s biggest contract chip maker.

The plans to build a new multi-billion dollar factory in Singapore are still under consideration. According to individuals said to be familiar with the matter, the government of Singapore may help to fund construction of the plant.

The proposed production lines would manufacture chips with seven- to 28-nanometer fabrication processes, which are older production technologies. While Apple’s latest chips are manufactured with TSMC’s five-nanometer process and therefore could not be manufactured at the new plant in Singapore, the expansion could free up production capacity at other factories where Apple’s chips can be manufactured and help to relieve global shortages.

Beyond the plans for a new plant in Singapore, TSMC is also building a $12 billion factory in Arizona to manufacture five-nanometer chips. TSMC’s main factories are located in Taiwan, but it already operates a factory in Camas, Washington, as well as design centers in Austin, Texas and San Jose, California, meaning that the Arizona facility will be its second manufacturing site in the United States. TSMC is also building a new factory in Japan with help from the Japanese government and investment by Sony.

Twitter now rolling out exclusive Spaces for Super Follows creators

Image: 9to5Mac

Earlier this year, it was reported that Twitter had been working on a new way to let creators open exclusive Spaces for their “super followers.” Now the social network has confirmed that it’s rolling out the Spaces feature to Super Follows creators so that they can start a private audio chat with only paying followers.

With Super Follows, creators can offer access to exclusive tweets through a monthly subscription. Now, in addition to regular tweets, these followers will also have access to private Spaces – which is Twitter’s live audio platform.

It’s worth noting that Spaces for Super Follows is different from Ticketed Spaces, which is another option available to all users so that they can charge a fixed price to each user who wants to enter that Space. Both features are ways that Twitter has been implementing monetization to its platform beyond advertising.

At this point, the Super Follows feature is only available to users in the US. Creators who want to apply for the program need to be 18 or older, have at least 10,000 followers, and have posted a minimum of 25 tweets in the past 30 days. Creators accepted into the Super Follows program can charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 for the monthly subscription.

Plastic-eating Enzyme Could Eliminate Billions of Tons of Landfill Waste

AUSTIN, TexAn enzyme variant created by engineers and scientists at The University of Texas at Austin can break down environment-throttling plastics that typically take centuries to degrade in just a matter of hours to days.

This discovery, published today in Nature, could help solve one of the world’s most pressing environmental problems: what to do with the billions of tons of plastic waste piling up in landfills and polluting our natural lands and water. The enzyme has the potential to supercharge recycling on a large scale that would allow major industries to reduce their environmental impact by recovering and reusing plastics at the molecular level.

Google is filing for bankruptcy in Russia, stating that the Russian government has seized its local bank account. According to the tech giant, this has made it no longer possible for its local office to continue operation.

“The Russian authorities’ seizure of Google Russia’s bank account has made it untenable for our Russia office to function, including employing and paying Russia-based employees, paying suppliers and vendors, and meeting other financial obligations,” said a Google spokesperson in a statement to Mashable.

“Google Russia has published a notice of its intention to file for bankruptcy. People in Russia rely on our services to access quality information and we’ll continue to keep free services such as Search, YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Android and Play available.”
