Xiaomi is hosting a Smarter Living event in India on August 26. While the invite shared with us on email doesn’t reveal much, Xiaomi India’s Chief Business Officer, Raghu Reddy, confirmed to India Today that the Mi Band 6 will finally make its debut in the country.

The fitness band launched back in April and is only now making its way to India. Xiaomi has managed to pack more features in it while keeping the price low as always. Compared to the Mi Band 5, the sixth generation Mi Band comes with a larger AMOLED display, double the number of activity modes, and blood oxygen monitoring. It can also now assess sleep breathing quality, in addition to carrying forward useful features such as 5ATM water resistance, Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI), and more.

T-Mobile is investigating a reported data breach. It sounds like a bad one

T-Mobile customers should probably keep an eye out for suspicious activity on any accounts that might be tied to their customer profile.

T-Mobile customers may want to brace for some bad news.

The mobile service provider is investigating a reported data breach that may have exposed the private info of more than 100 million people. The would-be perpetrator is apparently trying to sell off a portion of the data, Vice noted in a Sunday report.

The site spoke with the anonymous author of a forum post offering up roughly one-third of the T-Mobile USA customer data in exchange for 6 bitcoins (worth a bit less than $280,000 as of Aug. 15). While it could all be BS, Vice was able to look at samples of the data and confirm that the seller has “accurate information on T-Mobile customers.”

As gamers probably know all too well, you can’t ever have the best piece of hardware for more than a few months – something better comes along sooner rather than later. So, say “hello” to the new S-series of the Asus ROG Phone 5 that comes to succeed the original line, which launched in April of this year.

The new series upgrades to the Snapdragon 888+ chipset with a 3.0 GHz prime core (Cortex-X1), up from 2.84 GHz on the original chip. The AI Engine got a 20% boost and now delivers 32 TOPS (up from 26 TOPS). The chipset is not the only upgrade on the new models, but we’ll get to that. First, let’s meet the two newcomers.

iPad in trouble? Xiaomi’s new Android tablet is likely getting a global launch soon

Image: Xiaomi

When the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and 5 Pro launched, they seemed to be well-specced and affordable iPad Pro rivals (Xiaomi’s words, not ours, as the Chinese company kept comparing its new slates to members of Apple’s stable). The catch? It seemed the slates would only go on sale in China.

That may not be the case though, as a supply chain source speaking to GizmoChina suggested Xiaomi was gearing up to launch its Mi Pad 5 in Europe in September. As with all rumors of its kind, take this with a pinch of salt, but GizmoChina can be fairly reliable for supply chain information.

Chrome is further increasing the privacy of Incognito Mode

Image: Techradar

An experimental setting has appeared in the experimental Android version of Chrome that will give users of Google’s browser the ability to block access to Incognito tabs. Access will only be granted when the correct lock screen password is entered, or the relevant biometrics are provided.

This means that until your phone camera successfully scans your face to identify you, or your handset’s fingerprint reader recognizes your print, access to Incognito tabs will be blocked. This does mean that there is something of a pay-off. Tabs – both standards and Incognito – tend to be left open to allow for faster access, and the addition of a level of authentication introduces a delay, albeit a very small one.

iPhone 13, Apple Watch 7 and new iPads all detailed in a big leak

iPhone 13 rumors: Camera upgrades, release date, price, design and more - CNET
Image: RendersbyIan/Twitter

We’re fast approaching the launch of the iPhone 13, a phone that will almost certainly land in September, likely alongside some other products such as the Apple Watch 7. Unsurprisingly we’ve heard a lot about these devices already, but the leaks just won’t stop coming.

Now Mark Gurman (a Bloomberg writer with an excellent track record for Apple information) has in his Power On newsletter revealed some likely specs and features of these upcoming devices.

In many cases he’s reiterating things that he’s said before, but there is some new stuff here, including a claim that the Apple Watch 7 will come with a new Time to Run feature. This will presumably be similar to the podcast-like Time to Walk feature already found on the Apple Watch, but aimed at runners, and it will apparently be joined by audio meditations.

Samsung Galaxy S22 specs leak is bad for Samsung but good for buyers

Image: Aakash Jhaveri

The Samsung Galaxy S21 range and other recent Galaxy S flagships have used different chipsets in different regions, with the US often getting a Snapdragon one, and much of the rest of the world typically getting a Samsung-made Exynos one, but for the Samsung Galaxy S22, almost everywhere might get the same chipset.

That’s according to leaker lanzuk, posting on Naver (a South Korean social media site). Apparently, Samsung has run into production problems, meaning that it won’t be able to build as many Exynos 2200 chipsets (which is the expected next generation Exynos model) as it usually manages, meaning that most of the world will get a Snapdragon chipset instead, rumored to be called the Snapdragon 898.

They haven’t said which countries will still get an Exynos model, just that apparently South Korea is unlikely to.

Google had unveiled Android 12 for the first time in February 2021, and it has already released various beta builds for Pixel smartphones. This new version of Android brings a lot of new features and optimizations. It also brings a new feature that lets users control their smartphones using facial expressions.

According to a report from XDA Developers, a new update (v12.0.0) to Android Accessibility Suite on Android 12 brings the Camera Switches feature. This new feature allows users to control smartphones using just facial expressions, which would be a boon to some people with disabilities as they don’t need to rely on using the touchscreen to control their phones.

Users can navigate the UI of their phones or tablets running Android 12 through various facial expressions: Look Left, Look Right, Look Up, Open Mouth, Raise Eyebrows, and Smile.

Real milk, no cows needed: Lab-made dairy products are now a reality

BACK IN 2014, bioengineer Ryan Pandya had a demoralising encounter with a bagel. It wasn’t so much the bagel itself as its filling, a “bland and runny” substance made from soya which was supposed to resemble cream cheese. Pandya was a recent convert to veganism and was struggling to give up dairy products. But when life dealt him bad cream cheese, he made ice cream.

Today, Pandya’s company Perfect Day is at the vanguard of a food revolution. It makes and sells milk, but has no cows. Its farm is a bioreactor in which it cultivates microorganisms genetically engineered to secrete milk proteins.
