Samsung officially confirms the 5nm Exynos W920 chipset set to power the Galaxy Watch 4

Image: Samsung

Ahead of Unpacked, Samsung is lifting the lid on the highly anticipated Exynos W920 chipset, which is all but confirmed to power the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 series.

There has been a ton of speculation ahead of launch about just what the Exynos W920 chipset could bring to the table with regards to wearable performance — particularly with Wear OS 3 in mind. Ahead of an official unveiling of the new wearable devices, Samsung has laid out all of the performance-related specifications for this 5nm chip.

As we note, the Exynos W920 has been built upon the 5nm EUV process, an important aspect for a chip that will likely be packed inside power-efficient wearable devices. If you were unaware, the current top-tier Wear OS chip — the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100+ — is built upon the 12nm EUV process. This may provide quite the leap in longevity and efficiency for upcoming Samsung smartwatches.

Tesla reportedly gets India to consider slashing taxes on EV imports

Image

The Indian government is considering tax cut from 60% to 40% for imported EVs.

According to a report from Reuters, the authorities are considering these revised tax rates for EVs valued at less than $40,000 — inclusive of cost, insurance, and freight. The report noted that for EVs costing more than $40,000, the revised tax rate would be 60% — down from 100%.

In July, Elon Musk said he wants to bring Tesla to India, but import taxes are too high. And currently, the company doesn’t have any facility in the country to produce its vehicles. The company also made an official pitch to the government later in the month to reduce taxes and present a proposal to set up manufacturing in India.

Asus ROG Phone 5S tipped for launch: How would it differ from ROG Phone 5?

Image: Android Authority

Asus launched the ROG Phone 5 line earlier this year, bringing a pretty compelling gaming phone to market. What if you need a little more grunt though? Well, it looks like Asus is preparing an upgraded phone for release.

Frequent leaker Mukul Sharma posted an image on Twitter, mentioning an apparent Asus ROG Phone 5S. We’re not quite sure about the source of the image, so we’d recommend you take it with a little caution. But Sharma generally has a good track record when it comes to leaks. You can view a screenshot of the tweet below.Mukul Sharma/Twitter

It looks like the most significant upgrade might be the move to a Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset. This offers a mild heavyweight CPU clock speed increase and improved machine learning performance over the standard Snapdragon 888, with everything else being identical otherwise.

Electric vehicle startup Ather Energy has opened up its proprietary fast-charging connector patents to other OEMs, allowing other electric two-wheelers to use its fast charging network as well as build products on a common standard.

The Ather 450 Plus and Ather 450X electric scooters use a proprietary charging connector which was designed by the brand to provide an optimal and safe charging experience, keeping internal and external factors in mind. Along with a convenient home charging with each vehicle, the company has also set up a fast charging network called the Ather Grid. It is capable of charging the scooter entirely in about an hour, or at the rate of 1.5 km per minute. Right now, there are some 200 charging stations across India, with more coming up every week.

Krafton bans 336,736 BGMI accounts for cheating in-game

Over 3 lakh Battlegrounds Mobile India accounts banned in Krafton crackdown | HT Tech

Since the days of PUBG Mobile, cheaters have been high on the priority list of developers like Krafton. Cheaters ruin games for players that are trying to win using fair methods.

And like PUBG Mobile it seems like cheaters in BGMI also use a whole lot of different external software to cheat like knowing where the enemy players are, using aimbots, to knowing where all the loot items are. And now Krafton has announced in a new blog on the website that it has permanently banned 336,736 BGMI accounts. This is the number of cheaters banned in the period between July 30 and August 5.

Twitter is now complying with India’s new IT rules, New Delhi told a court Tuesday, in a move that is expected to ease months-long tension between the American social media network and the government of the key overseas market.

A lawyer representing the Indian government told the Delhi High Court that Twitter’s recent steps — appointment of chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and resident grievance officer in the country — have made the social network “prima facie” compliant with the new law.

How Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 may be the first phone to get ditching the charger right

A new leak suggests the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is expected to be revealed on August 11, will feature a pre-order deal with a free case, S Pen stylus and 25W charger.

This heavily suggests the phone won’t come with a charger in the box. Why would Samsung include a charger in the pre-order deal if there was already one included in the main package?

This may seem like a complicated way to get yourself a charger, but I think this could be the best idea from a manufacturer yet to make up for the disappointment of it dropping the charger from the box.

Google rolling out larger Material time picker across its Android apps

Ahead of the broader Material You redesign, Google is rolling out a small tweak to one particular important and frequently used component in apps. The time picker UI across Google’s Android apps are getting updated to a new, more touch-friendly design.

Most apps show the analog component first, with Google now better spacing the fields for hours and minutes. It’s also much more obvious that AM and PM can be tapped in Android’s new time picker design.

Meanwhile, this top portion of the screen is now the entire manual entry UI. Compared to before, everything is larger, and the time picker makes better use of the available space. Users also don’t have to deal with a small AM/PM dropdown/touch target. (As a side note, you can also see the updated Material You number pad in Gboard below.) The cover gallery above shows off the landscape variant of this UI.

Overall, this is a spacious improvement and has been rolling out to more Google apps over the past few weeks. Google Search uses this updated component for setting Assistant Reminders, while version 5.21.301.10 introduces it to Google Keep on Android.

The main camera is equipped with vivo’s VIS five-axis stabilization, covering all the possible movements.

Source of Dinosaur-killing asteroid possibly found in darkest corner of Asteroid Belt

An Asteroid Heating Up As It Reaches Earth's Atmosphere Ahead Of An Ocean Impact

To answer that question, researchers with SwRI studied existing 66-million-year-old rock samples from the Chicxulub crater, both from rock layers on land and drill core samples, that identified the impactor as part of the carbonaceous chondrites class of asteroids. This only confuses the matter, since very few carbonaceous chondrites larger than a mile wide have hit Earth, as far as we can tell from the geological record.

So, the SwRI team went hunting for a possible source of a carbonaceous chondrites of sufficient size. “We decided to look for where the siblings of the Chicxulub impactor might be hiding,” said Dr. David Nesvorný, lead author of the paper.

Using computer modeling, the team now believes that the asteroid came from the outer half of the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, a region long-thought to produce few impactors. This region is filled with larger carbonaceous chondrites asteroids left over from the formation of the solar system billions of years ago.
