Xiaomi 12X to join the regular Xiaomi 12 at a December event

Reports so far regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 12 lineup suggest that the company will unveil the series in multiple events over several weeks and months, starting with the vanilla Xiaomi 12 in December. Yet a new report now says we will get at least two members at the initial announcement event next month.

The Xiaomi 12X, which only recently started making the rounds in the rumor mill, will be announced alongside the Xiaomi 12. As per current information, this is supposed to be an affordable, compact flagship with Snapdragon 870 chipset and 6.28-inch OLED display. A 50MP main shooter is expected on its back.

The report coming from China doesn’t give an exact date of release for the two handsets, but December isn’t far now so we’ll find out soon enough.

Galaxy S22 processor benchmark leak teases huge performance gains

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

That said, it’s likely the Galaxy S22 series will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 processor. Samsung used a Snapdragon/Exynos chip for previous Galaxy S and Note generations.

If the first benchmark leak for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is accurate, then we’re looking at notable speed gains for the Galaxy S22.

The new processor topped 1,000,000 points in an AnTuTu test. That’s more than 200,000 points better than the Snapdragon 888+ processor. The leaked benchmark is also in line with the Dimensity 9000 processor. The MediaTek chip also topped 1,000,000 points in the same test.

Poco X4 and Poco X4 NFC are coming soon, expect a Redmi Note 11 Pro rebrand

Poco X3 NFC
Image: Gsmarena

It’s been quite a while since the Poco X3 NFC made its debut – more than a year, in fact, from its September 2020 release. And while the M-line is already in the 4 territory with the launch of the Poco M4 Pro, the mid-range X-series is currently still made up of the X3 NFC and X3 Pro.

That will change soon, according to the latest leak. It turns out that Poco is working on both an X4 for the Indian market sans NFC, as well as an X4 NFC for global markets. It doesn’t seem like the awkward naming scheme is going away this time around.

The same source that spotted these in some IMEI database claims that they’ll basically be rebranded versions of the Redmi Note 11 Pro launched in China not long ago – in the same way in which the Poco M4 Pro is a rebadged Redmi Note 11.

If this pans out – and that’s a big if – then expect the Poco X4/NFC to feature a 6.67″ 120 Hz 1080p AMOLED screen, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC at the helm, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, a 108 MP main camera flanked by an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro, a 16 MP selfie snapper, and a 5,160 mAh battery with 67W charging.

Unsurprisingly Xiaomi is preparing for its next launch in India which is happening on November 30, but what about plans for after that? Well, it turns out that the company has even more stuff in the pipeline for the subcontinent.

According to a traditionally reliable tipster, the Xiaomi 11T, 11T Pro, and Redmi 10 2022 are all going to be launching in India very soon. Additionally, the company is reportedly testing the Redmi Smart Band Pro, Redmi Watch 2, Redmi Watch 2 Lite, and Xiaomi Watch S1 Active in the country – and that means any or all of these may also be released at some point in the future.

The Redmi K40 Gaming arrived in April 2021 with a Dimensity 1200, and reports are the successor will use a Mediatek platform as well.

Digital Chat Station reveals the Redmi K50 Gaming is coming with a Dimensity 9000 – the latest flagship platform by the Taiwanese chipmaker. It will keep the 64MP main camera and the 5,000 mAh battery, while the screen will be flat and this time will have a fingerprint scanner underneath.

Samsung launched its 200MP Isocell HP1 camera sensor back in September without a clear confirmation of which manufacturers may use it in the future. Now, we might have a better idea of which companies could get their hands on it first.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, Motorola, not Samsung, could be first out the door with a 200MP camera phone. Notably, Ice Universe corroborated these details in a separate tweet.Digital Chat Station / Weibo

It’s unclear which Motorola model will get the honor, but the tipster does suggest the teased Moto Edge X will be the first to sport two new OmniVision sensors in the same post.

Spotify is testing a TikTok-like video feed to help you ‘discover’ new music

Music streaming giant Spotify has started testing a new short-form video feed called “Discover” (via TechCrunch). The feature is similar to TikTok’s vertical video format, which has already been adopted by several social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube.

The Discover feature appears as a new tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of the Spotify mobile app. While the company has confirmed the test, there’s no word on whether the feature is available on both Android and iOS. In a statement sent to Android Central, a Spotify spokesperson said:

At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have any further news to share at this time.

Even though the company appears to have confirmed the existence of the feature, there’s still no guarantee that it will eventually be rolled out to everyone. Back in January, Spotify began testing a new Stories feature to let influencers introduce a playlist of their favorite songs to followers. However, Spotify never actually rolled out the feature to the public.

US blacklists a dozen more Chinese tech firms citing national security

The US government has added a dozen more Chinese companies to its restricted trade list, citing national security and foreign policy concerns.

Washington says that some of the firms are helping develop the Chinese military’s quantum computing programme.

This latest move comes as tensions grow between the US and China over the status of Taiwan and other issues.

Trade was among the items discussed at a virtual summit between the leaders of both countries earlier this month.
