Realme on February 16 took the wraps off its latest “number series” devices: the Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro+. Both phones offer 5G connectivity and have the specs to give the best budget Android phones a run for their money.

The Realme 9 Pro+ has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and an under-screen fingerprint scanner. Under the hood, it has MediaTek’s Dimensity 920 5G chipset, which has been paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The phone’s biggest selling point, however, is its impressive triple-camera system. It has a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor, just like the flagship Realme GT 2 Pro. The flagship-grade sensor is joined by an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro shooter. There’s also a 16MP selfie camera, housed within the hole-punch cutout on the upper left corner of the display.

Realme 9 Pro+ also comes with a 4,500mAh battery that supports 60W SuperDart charging. Realme claims it takes just 45 minutes for the phone to be fully charged.

The Realme 9 Pro+ is priced at ₹24,999 (about $333) for the 6GB/128GB version, ₹26,999 (about $360) for the 8GB/128GB version, and ₹28,999 (about $386) for the 8GB/256GB version. It will be available to purchase in India starting February 21. The phone comes in three color options: Aurora Green, Midnight Black, and a color-changing Sunrise Blue.

The Realme 9 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 6.6-inch LCD panel featuring FHD+ resolution and a higher 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 chipset, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

In terms of photography, the phone has a 64MP IMX686 triple camera (also featuring an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro) as well as a 20MP selfie camera. Other notable specs include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Gorilla Glass Victus, improved haptic feedback, Wi-Fi 6E support, NFC, and MIUI 13.

Xiaomi also unveiled a special Mercedes F1-themed Redmi K50 Gaming phone, seen at the top of the page. The device sports a unique design with black, silver, and turquoise colors and the Mercedes F1 badge. But it’s otherwise identical to the standard edition.

Honor Magic 4 smartphone range landing at MWC 2022 with a photography focus

Image: Honor

The Honor Magic 4 range is fast approaching, with the company having confirmed that these phones will be unveiled at MWC 2022, on February 28.

The event will kick off at 3am PT / 6am ET / 11am GMT / 9:30pm ACT, so there’s not long to wait, but ahead of that the company has provided a couple of clues about the phones.

First off, they’re actually referred to as the Honor Magic 4 5G series, so unsurprisingly 5G will be supported. The teaser image which you can see above also shows a camera lens, so photography is likely to be a big focus of the phones.

That’s no surprise either, as it was with the Honor Magic 3 range too. Even the basic model had a triple-lens camera with high megapixel counts, while the Honor Magic 3 Pro Plus had a quad-lens camera with a 50MP main, 64MP ultra-wide, 64MP monochrome, and 64MP telephoto camera (with 3.5x optical zoom).

Xiaomi testing 150W fast charging, soon to be ready for mass production

Image: Xiaomi

A newly emerged report suggests that Xiaomi is almost ready with the development of a 150W charging solution. There were rumors about this tech in the past and there was even one about Realme phones rocking a 150W charging support this year.

The report itself doesn’t go into specifics and we don’t know when exactly to expect the new charging tech but if development is complete we can’t imagine Xiaomi will take too long taking it to the market.

Given that the future Xiaomi Mix 5 is going to be packed with a number of cutting-edge technologies, it’s quite possible to see the 150W charger bundled with the tech in question.

iFixit tears down Steam Deck and will be an authorized supplier of replacement parts

iFixit partners with Valve to provide replacement parts for the Steam Deck
Image: Creative Electron

Pre-order for Valve’s Steam Deck will begin arriving to backers’ doorsteps starting February 25. Back when Valve released a teardown video of the Steam Deck, it was promised that replacement parts would be made available as many of the replaceable components.

A new update by Valve confirms that iFixit will be authorized to sell replacement parts for the Steam Deck.

Today we’re announcing that iFixit will be one of the authorized sellers of Steam Deck replacement parts – as well as replacement parts of the Valve Index VR products. We are still hammering out the details and will be sharing more info on this soon.

In addition, iFixit has also released its full teardown of the Steam Deck along with the following X Ray image.

Though Valve released a tear down last October, it only showed the inside of the device and the removal of the thumb sticks.

iFixit tears down much further, and compliments how well the device was labeled. Although the frame is super easy to disassemble and unclip without adhesive removal, It also notes that if you are familiar with taking apart a Nintendo Switch or a PC laptop, it may feel familiar. The teardown highlights that the battery removal was difficult. It is an L-shape design.

Samsung announced fake Galaxy S22 display specs and it won’t apologize

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Samsung quietly changed the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus display specs in its press release and product pages after the Unpacked event a few days ago. People observed the refresh rate modification for the cheaper Galaxy S22 versions and quickly took to the web to point it out. The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus do not support dynamic refresh rates of 10-120Hz as previously stated. Instead, the refresh rate can drop only to 48Hz, although it still goes up to 120Hz.

Samsung is finally out with an explanation, admitting that it practically lied with the initial Galaxy S22 display specs claims. But Samsung isn’t apologizing for the sleight of hand.

A woman from New York has become only the third person in the world to have been cured of HIV, The New York Times reports.

Researchers are calling it a scientific breakthrough, because it used a new method and because the patient was demographically different from previous patients to have undergone similar treatment to cure the virus.

“The fact that she’s mixed race, and that she’s a woman, that is really important scientifically and really important in terms of the community impact,” University of California’s AIDS expert Steven Deeks, who was not involved in the research, told the NYT.
