OnePlus says that it’s focusing more and more on the camera performance of its phones but it’s yet to match its rivals in terms of telephoto cameras and it seems like it won’t be doing so with its OnePlus 10 Pro flagship either.

According to reputable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 10 Pro won’t be featuring a periscope zoom camera, sticking with a standard optical zoom unit capable of 3.3x magnification and up to 30x digital zoom.

The tipster further says the sensor itself isn’t high resolution, so the hybrid zoom feature would probably fail to impress.

“Loki” and “Thor” phones are actually part of the Xiaomi Mix lineup

Earlier this week a leak suggested that a second version of the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra is in the works. However, the same “Loki” and “Thor” codenames associated with model numbers 2203121C and 2203121AC popped up on a Chinese certification website.

The listings clearly state that the certified phones belong to Xiaomi’s Mix series. The listings are only for the Chinese market but that might change in the future. Judging by previous Mi Mix generations, at least one of the two versions will step outside of China.

The new report may not be that revealing but it gives us a hint of what to look for in future leaks and confirms two versions of the upcoming Mix 5 generation.

vivo Y74s 5G unveiled: another Dimensity 810 phone with 50MP main camera

vivo Y74s 5G unveiled: another Dimensity 810 powered phone with a 50 MP main camera
Image: Vivo

This is a 5G phone thanks to the Dimensity 810 – the 6 nm chipset sports two Cortex-A76 cores, six A55 and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. In this phone the chip is paired with 8 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and 256 GB of built-in storage (UFS 2.2). There is also a microSD slot that supports cards up to 1 TB.

The 6.58” LCD has a 60 Hz refresh rate, but a 180 Hz touch sampling rate. The rest is pretty standard – 1080p+ resolution (20:9), 1,500:1 contrast ratio, no HDR. The phone runs OriginOS 1.0 (based on Android 11).

On its back is a 50 MP main camera, which would have been alone if not for the 2 MP macro cam. The selfie camera on the front is a basic 8 MP shooter. Both front and back cameras are limited to 1080p video recording.

The phone is powered by a 4,100 mAh battery that supports 44W fast charging, pretty standard vivo fare. Some additional details include two SIM card slots, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, aptX (HD) and LDAC support (over Bluetooth 5.1) and a fingerprint reader mounted on the side.

The vivo Y74s is available in China now at a price of CNY 2,300 ($360/€320/₹26,800) with two colorways to choose from: Galaxy Blue and Starry Night Black.

Pixel 6a design leaks, teasing a few big surprises

Render shows leaked Pixel 6a design.

Seeing the Pixel 6a design leak in late November isn’t surprising. Google has never been able to contain Pixel leaks, and there are no signs that anything has changed. Despite the early leak, the new affordable Pixel will not launch until spring or summer, however. After all, the Pixel 5a hit stores only a few months ago, and it’s still available from Google.

This early leak signals that Google might have settled on the Pixel 6a design. That’s both good news and bad news for fans of the Pixel A series of handsets.

According to these images, the Pixel 6a will feature the same design as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. That means the cheaper Pixel 6 will get the same all-screen, hole-punch display as the flagship models. Also, the rear horizontal camera module stays in place both when it comes to position and size.

Chinese smartphone brands OnePlus and Realme had launched smart TVs in India over the past year that boasted impressive features and reasonable costs. Oppo, yet another brand from the same family, is joining the bandwagon with its own brand of televisions in the country.

Information about this development from Oppo was shared by well-known tipster Mukul Sharma, who also indicated that the company could be launching its first ever television in the country early next year. Possibly before end-March.

Oppo had launched several Smart TVs in China, the latest one being K9 series of TVs that came in May. It offered three models under this series with all boasting a 60Hz LCD display with HDR10+ (high dynamic range video technology) capabilities. It also comes with Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) support.

These devices boast a quad-core MediaTek processor with ColorOS TV 2.0 operating system running on top of it. The company later included a 75-inch display into this series and announced that it supported up to 1.07 billion colors.

Rolls-Royce claims it has the world’s fastest electric airplane

Rolls-Royce, the company best known for its fancy cars, also has an electric airplane. Recently, it took the aircraft called the Spirit of Innovation for a spin, breaking a couple of world records in the process — and by a large margin.

According to Rolls-Royce, Spirit of Innovation has set several world records on a Nov. 16 flight. First, it achieved a top speed of speed of 555.9 km/h (345.4 mph) over the distance of 3 kilometres, which is nearly triple as fast as the previous, 213.04 km/h (132mph) record. It also achieved a speed 532.1km/h (330 mph) over 15 kilometres, another world first, and broke the fastest time to climb to 3000 metres by 60 seconds with a time of 202 seconds, Rolls-Royce claims.

Facebook and Instagram encryption plans delayed by Meta until 2023

Plans to roll out end-to-end encryption on Facebook and Instagram have been delayed amid a row over child safety. Meta – as Facebook’s parent company is now called – said messaging encryption on the apps would now come in 2023. The process means only the sender and receiver can read messages, but law enforcement or Meta cannot.

However, child protection groups and politicians have warned that it could hamper police investigating child abuse.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), has claimed that private messaging “is the front line of child sexual abuse”. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has also criticised the technology, saying earlier this year that it could “severely hamper” law enforcement in pursuing criminal activity, including online child abuse.
